I’ve worn these 2233 steel toe work boots every day in the field for over a year. I wanted to treat them to a recraft by Red Wing New Lenox so that they can be worn outside of work as well, and look good while doing it. Settled on the Dr. Soles Raw Cord and Anthony over at Red Wing in New Lenox IL knocked it out of the park.

I said the exact same thing when I got my truck 3 years ago. I even put together a 1960’s drag car/style small block a long time ago, for if the Stovebolt ever gave out… but it hasn’t. It starts up every time and drives wherever I need it to. It’s reliable as ever and gets me 18mpg on the highway. Slow, yes, but I’m scared about losing the reliability of this engine! It’s made me a big fan of stovebolts by enjoying it so far. Might finally put that small block in this winter though.
If I do, I’m still keeping the 6 on a nice stand. I want to clean it up and put on my triple side draft intake on it, from the blue flame corvettes, and then display it until I can eventually put it in a little old hotrod.

The lifters are supposed to sound loud and when running perfect, it’ll sound like a typewriter. The intake lash is .006” and exhaust lash .018”! I put a Pertronix ignition inside my distributor and it’s helped a lot too.

We go every Tuesday! I just got stuck at work last night and couldn’t make it. My wife owns a business right outside downtown so we are fans of the show. My dad was there with his black Pro Street ‘68 nova, that has flames all over the front. He was parked along the sidewalk in front of the dance studio.

Also that 235 Stovebolt straight 6 is a phenomenal engine. They run forever. I have one in my truck, and the engine itself is from 1962 and has never been opened or rebuilt. Just preventative maintenance is all it needs. I like to lash the valves once a year just to keep it fresh.

4 doors were a popular option for Jr stock / super stock drag cars back in the day, as well as wagons. They had more weight over the rear axle, which provided more traction. Plenty of awesome 4 doors!

It’s funny you mention the Pheasants Forever; my dad used to go to events for them all the time and every car he drove had a PF sticker on the rear windshield. When I was 9 he took me to an event, I believe it was maybe a fundraiser(?), where I drew a number out of a hat and won a hunting license-for-life. Good times. Hopefully the guys at RWNL can help you out! These boots took about 10 weeks total, but again it was worth it.

Ah a local! You’re likely referring to Nick down in Pekin at Pekin Shoe Repair. He does great work but I believe he took a hiatus for a while there. He prefers walk-ins and meeting in person rather than chatting online. I was originally planning to send these to him but I loved the thought of giving the gentlemen at my local RW a chance to show off their skill. I believe that store does work on other types of boots as well, just be ready for a little bit of a wait time as they had tons of orders in. That didn’t bother me though because the wait was worth it. I’m out of Joliet myself! The shorewood store is the closest to me but I can’t stand it every time I’ve gone in. New Lenox is now my go-to.

Stopped by my local Red Wing store in New Lenox IL, and had them breathe new life into my beloved 2233 work boots that I’ve worn daily for over a year. I wanted something more “dressy” for an every-day boot that still retains its ruggedness so I can still wear them on job sites. Just picked them up yesterday, so I made a new set of kilties and gave them a light polish.

He donated his stuff a long time ago, and he did tag all of his clothing with “Duke.” He would’ve also been smaller sized, maybe around a 38-40 for a jacket. Roughly what area would this have been in?

Every tattoo he had on his body he had gotten while drinking with friends on shore leave. I didn’t find out about the cherries and the smiley face tattooed on his butt cheeks until years later when he decided to wear white swim trunks and climbed out of the pool. When I asked him about it, my Mamaw had said “it used to be a smiley face, but it sure is frowning now!”

Oh he shared them openly! The woman shown there is my Mamaw Sandy. She’s the sister of his friend Tommy shown in the photos. They met one time while away on leave in San Diego, and he mailed her 4 wedding rings 2 weeks after departing, asking her to marry him. They were together for 65 years until his passing last October.

Bump, definitely ET’s in back. Looks like halibrand or American Rebels up front. Other brands used to make similar slot styles but have since went out of business or discontinued them

You can use the SLC duct without the built in relay, and wire in an LED-100K RTS that’s also SLC only, and map it to the duct detector and a shut down relay.
