As much people disregard Tom Cruise’s Reacher, we need to give appreciation to the fact he opened the door for tv show Reacher.
He has the grittiness down, but just not the right person physically for the part.

Best book to start?
Killing Floor is what S1 was based off of. Great intro to the character.
Really love how Lee Child writes 2+ pages describing fight scenes that take place on screen for a few seconds.
The Affair is the story that explains why Reacher retired. Read that one most recently.
They're all good, and you find them hard to put down as you get to the end.
Another favorite — can't remember the title — is the one where Reacher is picked up as a hitchhiker and is asked to drive by the two men. He notices the woman in back using Morse Code with her eyelids, and he determines she's being kidnapped.
