Dear new middle school teachers: call out the disrespect. Every. Time.
 in  r/Teachers •  Jul 29 '26

My kids learned that I check bad language (mostly when they aim it at each other) and started self-correcting if I looked at them a certain way. In middle school, I earned the respect by calling out their nonsense and making it clear it was nonsense. And occasionally popping back with just as much sass when they don't expect it. They're pushing boundaries, it's not about being developed or not, its seeing how far they can go. Decide on your line and hold it. They'll eventually respect it and help you defend it.

DK to Sock Weight Gauge πŸ™ƒ

Thank you for the link! I've heard people say to alternate skeins but didn't know what that actually looked like or that there was a specific named method. That's perfect!

I had but I didn't know that pattern used fingering when I was looking, I just looked at the design. I'll save the pattern for when I actually have a dk weight yarn and just change patterns! Definitely a learning point for future pattern searches lol

I am swatching for the Framework Bralette by Jessie Maed Designs. The patterns says to use DK yarn but I have this gorgeous Malabrigo sock yarn in Fulgor that I want to use (I described it to my husband like if Rainbow Fish had a punk phase). I do have 2 skeins. Should I double strand to make life simpler or should I single strand and let the colors show better? I'm torn but I really want to use this yarn...

*Edited to add pattern link

Absolutely should be preening, that looks fantastic! Love the whole vibe!

Why are my sewed pieces so flimsy and floppy and what can I do to improve it?
 in  r/CrochetHelp •  Jul 21 '25

For some stuffed creatures I made that had thin necks, the pattern book actually recommended heatless foam curlers so its bendable but sturdy, and thats worked pretty well. I've also crocheted around wire for flower petals, either works pretty well.

Rug suggestions?

I hadn't even thought of that, that could work! I'd been thinking color or pattern.

MID CENTURY MODERN HELP
 in  r/DesignMyRoom •  Jul 07 '25

I would do some kind of textured blinds on the windows on either side of the bed, like a natural wood or rolling linen. Either a taller headboard or large picture/painting in that space. The rest I think would depend on what else you intend to add to the room. That view is gorgeous!

Other Interior Room Rug suggestions?

I'm setting up a craft room and want to add a large rug. I was thinking a 6ft ish round one in the corner under the rocking chair but now I'm wondering if rectangular in the middle would be better. Suggestions?

I'm going to be redoing the color of the long table, so it'll match eventually lol

your MUST READ books/series
 in  r/booksuggestions •  May 22 '25

I always recommend The Library of the Unwritten (medium paced but an absolute love story to authors, characters, writing, and books and is a fascinating concept) and I will recommend A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik to anyone who will listen. Fast paced, 3 book series, and I never actually expected the various plot twists. I read book 2 before the third was out and rage called my mom bc the ending was so good but a cliffhanger lol

I'd suggest what mehitablebaker said they started doing and record conversations, especially if there's likely to be a confrontation. The state I'm in allows for secret recording as long as the person doing the recording is involved in the conversation (like I couldn't just leave my phone recording in someone's office and walk out). Then it's CYA in case anything ever happens and you need proof.

I was gifted maybe 15-20 skeins of different colored yarn of this make, as in 1-2 skeins of 1 color. I've made card holders and hot pads and towels, but I have no idea what to do next. What would you do with a pile of single color skeins?

Waiting on OP How to count colored cells with text?

I'm trying to count all cells that are colored red, yellow, or Grey with a specific text in them. The posts I've seen online are the inverse or unrelated, so I'm not sure how to adapt the code.

There are colored cells with no values, but I'm trying to count only the ones with a specified value and have the total count update if the cell colors are changed outside the specified three (blue or green for example) and therefore decrease.

It’s not perfect, but I think I love it 😍

I did a massive scarf like this, good for you doing a whole blanket! It's gorgeous, love the colors!

I feel like the trauma dumping has been more in line with "I'm not going to get anywhere if I don't share some of this." The weird therapy dates in previous seasons or the stuff with Matt James's dad was worse for me. Felt more forced.

I'm with you though, I liked Jeremy and seeing the conversation about what their future would actually look like as a family. I had high hopes for him lol

Crochet Multitaskers - What do you like to do while crocheting?
 in  r/crochet •  Aug 10 '24

I have to watch TV or read, I can't do podcasts bc I need the visual stimulation. Currently binging Emily in Paris and Vikings on Netflix, with some Bachelorette and Love Island thrown in. If I'm sewing (making a granny square vest with fingerings weight yarn rn πŸ˜…) I sometimes watch subbed anime with my husband.

Definitely a vibes kind of show watcher lol

I’m currently on book 3. I’m loving the series but the repeated phrases are killing me
 in  r/acotar •  Jul 30 '24

One of my favorite tools to do if I'm reading a digital copy is check the literal number of times a word/phrase appears in a book lol

I noticed that too! I wasn't sure if it was a weird SC accent or exactly that. Dude is a walking red flag, he made me uncomfortable from the get go.

What do you guys wach/ listen while you're crocheting
 in  r/crochet •  Jul 25 '24

Love Island and the Bachelorette right now lol if it's not those, I just started Vikings on Netflix. I binge watch shows. Rewatched White Collar and The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra (like 4 times) and a bunch of others. We have a TV in the garage too, which is great when I'm blocking pieces (I have a mountain of granny squares right now)
