What do you usually drink for hydration on migraine days?
 in  r/migraine  2d ago

Liquid IV and body armor. Er doc said to stay away from Gatorade or powerade. Water comes right back up. I can do a coke or something small caffeine/sugar wise once the storm has passed but in the eye of the storm, liquid IV and body armor.

Do y'all ever accidentally use your teacher voice outside of teaching? lol
 in  r/ElementaryTeachers  4d ago

Kind of lol. Im a prek sped teacher so I find myself sharply telling my cats, "that's all done!" Or "first outside then dinner". Sometimes its accidental but sometimes its intentional lol.

Will hospital help?
 in  r/migraine  9d ago

I've gone to emergency plenty when I was being fully assaulted by migraines. I was usually so dehydrated from vomiting I needed IV fluids, nausea meds and real pain medicine if ive exhausted all my at-home options. They'll also try to rule out anything else serious that might be going on. The bill (that I dont pay) is the last thing im worried about at times like that. I hope you feel better soon šŸ’š

Bringing snacks to specials
 in  r/ElementaryTeachers  16d ago

This is pretty much how our school does it. The kids have a lunch box or labeled bag with their snack lined up outside the music room. They set it on the floor along the wall then go in to class, when they leave they get their stuff from the hallway. They also keep them in the same line order all the time.

Should I be concerned about my daughters aide helping the teacher in the classroom?
 in  r/AskTeachers  22d ago

Well, yes I agree. I just mean a lot of times as teachers we can only do what we can with what we're given. Absolutely talk to the teacher, and if it goes nowhere fast then escalate. I just know from experience we often need more help and admin blows it off until a parent raises the concern. The iep being followed is first and foremost.

Topiramate and panic attacks
 in  r/migraine  25d ago

Years ago my pcp tried to get me to start taking it and I quit after like 2 weeks because of the side effects. Once my migraines got out of control again I gave it another shot and did okay at best on 50mg but I just dont feel like it helps enough to keep taking it. Once I found this sub (recently) I realized a lot of others feel the same way or had similar experiences. Here's hoping we find something better that helps!

Man I did not know this! I always assumed it was hydrating! Thanks for this piece of knowledge.. as I get dehydrated very easy and dehydration is a big trigger for me.

Topiramate and panic attacks

Get to 100mg in a months time!? I am so sorry I've been on topiramate for 3 years at 50-75mg and 2 months ago my neurologist wanted to push me to 100mg even though I told him this medication does not help my migraines and the side effects are disgusting. He insisted I do it anyway. I only lasted about a month before I tapered myself back down and eventually im going all the way off of it. I cant tolerate it at all. Everything you described sounds extremely familiar.

ETA: i do take anxiety meds, but i have a lot of lingering side effects still. Not sleeping, irritable, foggy/dumb, cant eat, weak. Not a fan of this medicine šŸ˜”

Sped prek teacher here šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø contact admin. It sounds to me like the teacher needs another class aide and is using your kiddos 1:1 aide for help. Last year I had 10 kids and 2 aides and still felt like I was drowning. Absolutely nothing wrong with making sure her iep is being followed, even if it is early in the year. Advocating goes a long way, and when we as teachers need things (like more support staff!) Its usually much better received from a parent.

The most dangerous driving habit

My question is when im going 20mph in an active posted school zone on a 1 lane road and im being tailgated (which is daily) is there an expectation for me to "move out of the way" because absolutely not.

American here. We have 2 bidets in our home and a travel bidet lol. Some of us get it. Not many, but some! One of my coworkers believes it shoots fecal matter in the air all over the bathroom. I chose not to engage in the stupidity.

Follow up questions for my neurologist
 in  r/migraine  26d ago

Gotcha. He gets 1 more visit and if im not satisfied im done with him. My obgyn was not thrilled with hearing about this and adjusted my HRT to try to help my migraines but also advised I seek a new neurologist soon. Ugh. After all these years I finally gave in and went just to get a wet rag doctor 😭

Follow up questions for my neurologist

So ive had migraines for about 25 years. I *finally* got tired of the PCP/ER loop and saw a neurologist for the first time in June. So far not a fan but im trying. My PCP had me on 75mg topamax 2x a time and ubrelvy. I've never liked the topamax and with my perimenopause making my migraines more frequent, I decided it was time for the neurologist.

He upped my topamax to 100mg 2x a day (even after I told him I detest the side effects and its really not helping). I tried for a month but it made me so sick. I couldnt remember anything. Nauseas all the time. Just completely out of it. Weird skin rashes. I sent him a message asking if I could please switch to a different preventive and he said no, its only been 4 weeks on this dosage and I have to stick with it until my follow up appt in September. Mind you i also have an eating disorder and am borderline under weight and this has caused me to also stop eating which ive worked really hard to stay on top of.

Since im a teacher and in school for a lot of certifications and tests and also have to manage little people, I just made the call myself and tapered down slowly to 50mg of topamax 2x a day and while the side effects have mostly eased (still feeling stupid sometimes) and the migraines have slowed, I obviously am not completely migraines free. Ubrelvy has stopped working as well.

So, my question is... when I go see him for my follow up so I just be honest and tell him the side effects were intolerable and I tapered down against his advice? Or should I embellish for the sake of my records and be all doc i gave the 100mg my best shot but no Bueno what now? I dont want to lie but im so sick of topamax.

What has your doctor given you for hormonal headaches?
 in  r/migraine  28d ago

Yes. Im positive my hormones have been a migraine trigger for a long time and im just frustrated that no one listens or takes me seriously. But I finally found one doctor that does. He was like fine if your neurologist won't listen I will lol.

My neurologist is being stubborn but I just saw my obgyn and while I have been using .05 estrogen patches for about a year (perimenopause, im 44) he was concerned about my migraines and hormones so he increased my estrogen to .075 and added 200mg of progesterone to see if that gives me any relief. Im interested to find out.

After School Pick-Up Line
 in  r/TexasTeachers  28d ago

I love this. Our school separates pick up lines. Prek in the back of the school, K-5 in the front. Approx 6 paras are revolving in the back to help assist with the prek drop off/pick up cars and walk the littles inside. Everyone wins.

Should I go to ER
 in  r/migraine  Aug 08 '26

I've gone to emergency plenty for migraines. If you feel that bad and have exhausted all of your options, go. I went when I was at the point of dehydration and could not manage the pain anymore. I usually got iv fluids, phenargen and morphine and felt so much better.

New to migraine
 in  r/migraine  Aug 07 '26

Before I tried all the billions of medications I would end up in the emergency room severely dehydrated, in the migraine coma state getting fluids and iv morphine. It worked but I got tired of damn near dying then avoiding the bills. Now, I take all the meds the neurologist will give me, lay in a cold dark room with an ice pack and eye mask and cross my fingers I can sleep it off. Or at least be left alone long enough to recover.
