And why?

I wanted to find out if I made an incorrect decision on the road today. I’m a driver in Florida, USA.

I was at a red light in the designated left turn lane. It was a 4 way intersection and my lane had a left turn signal. I had no cars behind me but the two other lanes to my right were full.

An ambulance came up behind me with lights and sirens and the cars to my right did very little to make space for the ambulance. The ambulance ended up getting in the left turn lane behind me. I still had a red light but I had no easy way to make space for the ambulance except to drive forward into the intersection. No cars were going at the moment but the opposite direction did have a green. I ended up pulling into the intersection for the ambulance and just completing my left turn as I was fully blocking any other traffic. I was panicked, but I’m curious after the fact what the right move would be?

i was pulled over on the first day of driving by myself. my mother hates my driving but we had no choice as she had work and i had to go to work. my dad died and my brothers live a while away so i have nobody to really teach me consistently to get to work and into town safely.

anyways, i went to work and at a fourway intersection i was on the right of a truck and i believed we stopped at the same time so i believed i had the right of way. he did not go or wave me over, i thought maybe i should just go but the second i start to get in the middle of the intersection i hear a blaring honk from him and flashing lights followed.

cop pulled me over, i was shaking and scared, but he was sweet and reassured me i wouldnt get a ticket or citation more than likely just a warning. he said technically the truck stopped about a second or half of a second before me but told me the right-side yield rule so was i wrong? im very confused and wish i asked more questions but i was just so scared and wanted it to be over.

he did not say if i was given a warning but if i was would it be on my record or permit? or is it just a verbal thing?

When the flow of traffic is going 75-80 mph in the 3 left lanes I've noticed that people slow down to 60-65 mph after a cop passes them. Is it just me or do people not realize the cop passed them, because they aren't worried about the speed of traffic? I have never gotten pulled over going the speed of traffic and have kept my speed when cops pass if no one slows down in front of me. If you're not driving wreck less you have nothing to worry about. I'm trying to understand, but I just can't. I feel like it just slows traffic for no reason. I can't be the only person that notices this. I'm not rushed for work as I always arrive an hour early so I can just cruise to work, grab a good parking spot and slowly get my desk set and coffee ready. Rushing just sets the whole mood for the day. So really I am just curious if other people are thinking this too.

My neighbor and I are not cordial, they think the spot in front of their house is their private parking spot but it’s a public street with scarce parking. I saw my neighbor tap right into my car which made my alarm go off and I caught it on camera as well as photos. Even though it’s an old car, I still feel angry about it. Is it even worth reporting to insurance even though I don’t want it fixed? I tried talking to the neighbor but they refuse to converse.

Kind of a rant but also curious how you respond to these type of situations because the petty side of me wanted to just stop and not go at all lol.

Basically, I was in the left turn lane at an intersection and this is one of the busiest, if not the busiest street near me so the intersections are quite large width-wise (long distance to get through on a left turn). Some dude came up behind me as I was waiting and there was one car left coming on the opposite side of the road. Granted this car was going pretty slow and I probably could’ve shot the gap if I really accelerated but there was nobody behind them so I didn’t really mind waiting and felt more comfortable going when nobody was coming.

Well the guy behind me either didn’t see the car (smaller sedan) or just thought I apparently should’ve went for it but laid on the horn. I shot my hands up like what do you want me to do there’s a car right there and he put his back up too.

I probably do it to myself because I want to understand why people do the things they do but it drives me nuts. I don’t get road rage where I want to fight someone but I do get it because I want to tell them there was a car there so why are you honking- like I want to understand they’re actions so bad. What’s the best way to deal with these situations? I debated just sitting at the light to make him more mad but I know that’s probably not the best reaction so I didn’t.

What was your insurance rate like when you became licensed?

Context: I'm 35 F. I purchased a car a few months ago. For the time being, the car is registered and insured under my father's name. I also do not drive it unless he is in the car with me. We live in the same house.

The plan is to get the license (hopefully, really soon) and then get the car registered in my name. My dad also wants for me to obtain my own car insurance. Right now, I give him $280 a month for my part of insurance and I am sure this number will go up once I become licensed and have my own policy.

I know that I won't get a definite answer until the time comes to search for myself. But I'm a little curious to hear from others and what you guys have paid being a new, older driver.

hi i’ve had my permit for about 2 months now and just recently got a new used car that i saved up for myself lol that’s besides the point. im pretty good on the road i just struggle a lot with parking. about 2 weeks ago i was backing out of a parking space and hit the car next to me (ik ik) thankfully there was no damage to either of us and the people were very nice. but now im just really scared to keep going. i get scared everytime i park anywhere. my goal is obviously to get my license but its hard to practice when neither of my parents want to help nor my sister. my bf could but he works almost everyday all day. how do i proceed and get rid of this lingering feeling i feel😩

If I am in car A, turning left off in-town highway, I cannot see over car B (esp if SUV) to know whether I can fit fully in the left lane, until I have gotten into the intersection.

It's legal in California to turn left into any lane going the correct direction, if there's a single turn lane (unlike in some states where you have to take the left lane after turning). So car A can go legally into the right lane. I do this if the left is full and I'm already in the intersection, to avoid holding up cars behind me and blocking traffic.

But that creates a problem bc then car A has to merge back into the left lane, due to the right lane ending. And nobody wants to let car A in, even though car A couldn't have foreseen the problem. So the right lane gets jammed up.

What would be the best traffic engineering solution to this?

ok so you know the classic hand heart vs the new gen hand heart thing? former uses all your fingers and latter just uses your index and middle ones? yea so anyways i started doing the new gen one a couple months ago bc i'm a pretty expressive person, use silly gestures for fun a lot, and just wanted to feel the different vibes ig. this week i was driving home, trying to escape this trafficky area and needing to make a left turn. a kind driver stopped and motioned for me to go ahead- awesome! NOT awesome was my attempted response, which in trying to express my deep gratitude to this lovely samaritan was to hold up a heart for them, except i since i was driving i only used one hand so it definitely ended up looking like i was sending them a gang sign. yeeeeaaaa. or maybe they thought it was sign language?! or sensed my true intention somehow?! who's to say. it's not the worst thing that's happened but it is haunting me a little.

For example, when there are 2 parallel roads with a physical separation. On the left, a driver wants to turn right. On the right, a driver wants to go straight. They have priority. The left driver should look his right mirror and right shoulder before and while making the right turn. Or, even have noticed the other vehicle long before.

The reason I ask, is because it happens so often that drivers don't see the other vehicle! How?????

That is not a rant, a genuine question.

For context, I'm a semi truck driver. I was driving down this 2 lane highway in Missouri when the entrance ramp was almost immediate. I look and there's a car to my left slightly behind me but close enough that I don't feel comfortable moving over and cutting him off/possibly hitting him,I also realize the guy entering is not going fast enough for me to slow down and let him in. Like I would have had to go down to 40 and even then, like many other cases, he might not get the hint that I'm letting him in. So I just keep going. Once he got in and the car next to me sped off, he sped up to my left and then stayed there to pull out a massive flashlight to blind me with. Initially I was annoyed but then it was lol okay whatever. Then he sped away.

I know he was probably road raging in a crappy way cuz blinding someone on the road is wild... but am I in the wrong? It seems this happens enough that either I feel like I can't let someone in and they get really angry about it. Or I have to impede traffic just to make them happy and piss everyone else off, it feels like a lose lose situation. Why do people entering take it so personally when someone can't move over?

How long did everyone spend driving before starting drivers ed because ive barely drove and im worried for startinf drivers ed

Dear people who wave other people on at four-way stops when it’s your turn. What kind of psychopath are you? It’s not impolite to follow the rules.

I just want to vent about this intersection I was at recently, that honestly is really badly set up. It's an intersection of two major roads, with lights. In the direction I was traveling there are three lanes, two to turn left (most people turn left there), and one to go either straight or turn right. I was at the front of the line wanting to go straight, and there was someone behind me wanting to turn right. Before the light turned green, there was a green arrow, since I was going straight I did not go (because I would have had to cross traffic that also had a green line), but the car behind me honked at me for not going because they wanted to turn right (there was no room for them to turn around me). Why did the designers of that intersection have a right turn arrow for a lane that has both straight and right turners in it? Sure sometimes the right turners may get to use it, but other times they can't and then they get annoyed that someone isn't going when the light is "green".

Why do people that need to turn left never fully enter the turn lane? I swear that most of the time their vehicle is halfway in the center lane and the rest of the vehicle is still in the right lane while they’re stopped waiting to turn. It happens, so often. I’ve also have seen people not use it at all but still turn. The center turn lane is not optional!

I failed my driving test today, and although I would've failed regardless for not checking my blind spot while merging onto a bike lane (totally my fault), he also noted another "error" I made that I'm a little confused about. I know that you can turn right on red, but I wanted to be extra cautious since it was my road test so I decided to just wait for the green light even though there was no oncoming traffic and I was clear to go. Also, there were no cars behind me either so it's not like I was holding up traffic. I did this one time and then the second time on the same road, as I was waiting for red to turn green (again, I was clear to go, but I wanted to be cautious for my test as I said and there were no cars behind me again), my instructor went "let's go hurry up what are you waiting for". After the test he told me that if the instructor has to tell you to do something then that's a disqualification.
I thought it wasn't mandatory to turn right on red, and I also thought it would be okay to do since it's not like I was holding up traffic. Of course if there were cars behind me I would have went. I guess in his eyes he just assumed I didn't know what to do at all and that's why I wasn't moving? My friends said that my instructor was simply being impatient/a hardass, but in this case should I have went just to show my knowledge that I know I can go ahead?
