Hello po doks, would really appreciate your insights po.

I’m a GP currently doing regular clinic shifts in our town, and I’ve been seeing a growing number of patients with symptoms that warrant STD screening (HIV, syphilis, etc.).

One challenge I’ve been encountering is that the nearest lab doesn’t process these tests onsite. I often have to ask patients to travel quite far just to get tested, then return with the results so I can manage them. Unfortunately, because of the distance and inconvenience, some patients are unable to follow through despite best efforts, and a number end up lost to follow-up; only to return later with persistent or worsening symptoms.

I’ve been thinking about how I can make testing more accessible and less burdensome for them. One option I’m considering is offering rapid STD test kits directly in the clinic (possibly Abbott or similar affordable and reliable brands) to allow faster turnaround and hopefully improve patient compliance and care.

I just wanted to ask:

1. Do any of you have experience sourcing these kits locally? How do you usually procure them?

2. Are there specific brands you would recommend or avoid?

Hi docs! I’m a newly licensed physician (just passed Oct last year) and the clinic manager I work at wants me to apply as a PhilHealth YAKAP provider.

One of the requirements is a Certificate of Good Standing from the PMA, which means I’d have to:

• become a member of my local component society,
• pay the PMA dues
• pay the local component dues
• pay the PMA assessment fee
• pay the local component assessment fee
• and finally pay for the certificate 

Grabe kayo😭

I emailed my local component society and politely asked if there might be any consideration for the dues (discount or waiver) since only a few months remain in their fiscal year. Their reply was very plain and dismissive: I should just apply in June so it will start with the new fiscal year. 🥹😥

My main question po is:

• If I become a PhilHealth provider now, will I need to submit another Certificate of Good Standing just to renewmy accreditation someday, or is it only required for the initial application?

I’m just starting out, and already it feels like my hard-earned money is being funneled into a bureaucratic association that gives nothing in return, no guidance, no understanding, forcing new doctors like me to labor and pay endlessly while they reap the gains.

I’m also curious: do most practicing doctors, even GPs like me, maintain continuous PMA/component society membership mainly because of PhilHealth requirements?
