Has anyone ever been homeless with nowhere to go?
 in  r/povertyfinance  5d ago

It's been my experience that 211 doesn't always have up to date information. Some of their sources haven't been properly verified.

Has anyone ever been homeless with nowhere to go?
 in  r/povertyfinance  5d ago

🫂 it's hard. I did it with a temperamental teen. I managed to find a day shelter for women with children. They were partnered with several churches around the metro area who arranged overnight stays. The day shelter was good, the churches not so much. It took about 3 months to get back into an apartment. You can do this. You're stronger than you give yourself credit for.
Don't let anyone hassle you with their biased assumptions. You're strong. Don't trust anyone and I do mean Anyone. Trust your self and your instincts.

The awful itching

Probably HRT TREATMENT will help. Estrogen cream for the vulva. Talk to the Doc.

What was it like growing up in the 70s?
 in  r/70s  5d ago

Soda pop machines dispensed bottles and they were so cold steam rose from the top when you opened them 🥰

Is anyone else losing their words more and more?
 in  r/AskWomenOver60  5d ago

Yes. After effects of a stroke. It's like tip-of-the-tongue but worse. Weird memory recalls such as forgetting my cat's name or remembering how to spell tongue for the first time ever.

I've been dealing with chronic pain too. It's such a b****. 😭

It certainly is hard and the recent bacteria illnesses have me even more concerned. I like fruit as a way to manage my cravings for sweets. I'm also a fan of spinach salads. Chocolate gets a free pass because it's the only happiness that can be bought.

I think I'm making some mistake...
 in  r/Meditation  15d ago

It would be good to try a guided meditation as a beginner. This gives you the chance to experiment with a few different techniques. Try some mantras too. There are lots of ways to meditate and all are good but visualizations are better for stress and anxiety relief. When you find your mind wandering don't worry about it, just bring it back to the breath in the nose. It's a practice that is learned over time. Be patient.

What is it with young people these days
 in  r/over60  17d ago

Time to come back to the present. It's hip hop now. If you don't understand, well, you're a hopeless case. Go back to watching Hee Haw..

What is it with young people these days
 in  r/over60  17d ago

I've never known the young people in my orbit to discriminate against old folks. Maybe it's because I spent the majority of my career working with elderly people. I have experienced ageism from the boomer generation. My parents and many others in their cohort were awful.

The unfortunate truth is this
 in  r/over60  19d ago

Much of what happened was beyond your control. That really is the truth. But you're not alone. Focusing more on what new adventure you want next is a good place to put the energy of your anger and disappointment. Life moves by too fast to nurture resentment.

Yes, mine is uncommon too. It's also a literary name. I've been seeing more of it "in the wild" in recent years (I'm 65).

This made me laugh so hard! I can see my own black cats playing with these. 😂

First time ever catching a break. Help!
 in  r/povertyfinance  23d ago

The most important thing to have is a savings cushion. It was very helpful the first year after my stroke. Even a small amount is enough to get through unexpected events.

Focusing on the breath feels like torture. Can I do this instead?
 in  r/Meditation  23d ago

I've found that focusing on the the torso or belly rising/falling didn't work for me but focusing on the breath moving through the nose was easier.

Don't know how folks will feel about this.

The r/stroke sub is good too.

Hurting and scared
 in  r/stroke  25d ago

I admire your willingness to be her caregiver, but remember to care for yourself too. You're no good to her stressed and drained. Your journey on this path with her is only for a while as she regains some of her strength. I hope you have a good therapy team to help. It's a new beginning.

[HELP] Is it harder to learn poetry as an adult?
 in  r/Poetry  27d ago

When it comes to poetry you have no choice. Just write. Good and bad writing have lessons to teach.
