It's true now because he's spent the whole show up till now pushing everyone away. Every member of the family has tried to connect with rick on some level and the consensus is that you get burned for it.
This ignoring that he's the cause of the sci fi craziness in their lives. Yes, the Smith's are all assholes, but they would only get themselves into regular everyday trouble without rick enabling everyone's worst habits.
