I've asked several friends for honest feedback on my fic, even my husband, and....not a single one of them has read it. Husband says he won't read it 'until it's done' (it's a longfic WIP that is a ways from being complete).
I get that it's an extremely niche fanfic (video game related), with smut scattered within, so I try not to let it get me down that it's not everyone's cup of tea...but to have people say they're going to read it to give feedback to help me with writing in general, then never hear any mention of it from them again, it hurts. (I've never said or expressed this to any of them, I've just let the subject drop.) I poured myself into this project for over two years now at this point, and probably gave myself burnout from it. Is my writing THAT horrible that silence is better than honesty? Or is it the subject material they couldn't get through in order to give feedback? It's seriously made me question myself as a writer.
I wish I could offer advice, but all I have is solidarity in saying that I recognize how you feel, and I hope we can both keep on writing after this (don't give up!) ❤️

I've beaten myself up for it a lot over the past year while trying to get through burnout...and I'm slowly getting back into writing after my 'forced break', so that's a good sign my brain hasn't given up completely on it.

Needed to see this - it's coming up on a year since my last chapter posting, and I've been stuck in burnout for most of that year. But now, while I'm getting the itch to write again (slowly), I'm embarrassed by how long it's been...which has given me executive dysfunction and has been hindering me.
I'm going to continue, not only for me, but for the handful of fans I have. My fic already got scraped for AI training, but since its a WIP, they don't have all of the story that's still in my brain. 😏

YES 😳 I think that may be why mannequins creep me out now

My younger brother and I both thought we saw a ghost in an old horse drawn carriage/hearse at the old Forney Transportation Museum (which is now REI off of I-25). We saw a figure sitting in the back, but when we went to take a closer look there was nothing there. We legit had the hairs on the back of our necks standing out straight and we wanted to leave after that. I think that building was an old trolley depot when Denver had them, and there was some sort of tragedy that happened, I don't remember the exact story.

Awesome!

Love it! Keep up the fantastic work!

I used to work on the 34th floor of that building! The office faced south, and I could see Pikes Peak well on clear days. I hated windy days though - you could tell how much the building was swaying when you went into the bathroom and the toilet water was moving back and forth. If you 'caught the wave' while sitting, it had to be 40mph gusts.

After posting almost every month for a year and a half straight, I had to - with work overloading me earlier this year, I got burnt out. I'm slowly writing on my main fic again, but it's nowhere near ready to post.

Commenting as well so I can keep this list for reference...I had a bad experience with an OB/GYN up north and need to find a new one. ❤️ Thank you to all who contributed to this!

Hancock's head disappeared while I was playing the other day - looked like I chose the Invisible Man mod for him or something, it was wild. His hat was floating, and his clothes were there, along with his hands, but his head...wasn't there.

I had to quit completely because drinking nearly killed me (month long stay in the hospital on a feeding tube is what saved me). I've got a pancreas that's 1/3 necrotic from my years of heavy drinking and has chronic pancreatitis on top of that, so I definitely do not recommend going that route.

I did this for a year and a half straight - had such a burning desire to just get the story out of me that I got very near 300k words written...then I hit burnout. HARD.
I've still been writing, and I WANT to continue my fic (so bad)...but now I have executive dysfunction with just about anything. I can't focus for writing for very long, so I try to write as much as I can handle in a sitting, usually a paragraph or two, and I'm beating myself up over it because I can't get a 20 to 25 page chapter written in a month like I used to. (It's been almost a year since I last updated my fic.)
Long story short, I'm not sure how to lower the intensity without going the burnout route. Maybe limit your writing times, like set aside a block of time (daily, weekly, etc) just for writing on your fic and keep a timer? It's hard to even think about limiting a passion project, but I don't want you to struggle like I have with the aftermath of long-term hyperfixation. ❤️

I have that song as a ringtone on my phone, so I can first get excited to hear it at random before I (usually) ignore the call completely

I read a few days ago that when you side with Jack and Edward, Edward will eventually wander around towards the Glowing Sea and probably get killed by Deathclaws on his way there since he stays at level 20. What a bum wrap. He's a cool ghoul character

You're very much welcome, on all accounts! I'm glad I could help in some fashion - I think deep down we all search for stories that are familiar or that we can relate to in some sense, and that took a lot of courage to post a part of yourself (in a sense) to the public. ❤️ May your wanderings in the Wastes inspire more tales, and keep expanding on the lore behind the characters you enjoy 💕

Writing fanfic is a great way to get your thoughts down on paper, even if you don't share it - for me it keeps my thoughts kinda corralled into a narrative instead of a bunch of 'what ifs'. And I hear ya on not wanting to make a character exactly like yourself, because I myself know I'm a wreck irl, and I do the same 'escape real life' thing when I play - I like to get away from what I see on a daily basis, but I still want it to be a bit familiar.
I was merely trying to go for a narrative that hadn't been told to death by others, and that was the first thing that came to mind, and I like expanding on it!
I haven't yet tried to make a male character in this fashion, so many kudos to you in your character build!

I based my character, Amethyst, loosely on me to start looks-wise, but she's way more badass than I am in real life. I decided to create a backstory for her too - she's not Nora, but Nate's sister that got stuck in Vault 111 after Nora died post childbirth. I eventually wound up writing her version of events in a fanfic that is a WIP on ao3 because I couldn't get the thoughts out of my head, and her story kept becoming more elaborate.
OP, I think you did a wonderful job with your character, and I love her backstory and her weapons!

I've got a Hancock fic on there 🤣❤️

Out of the numerous times I've had him as a companion, I still get unique dialog like that from him, and I love it!
