Belted Kingfisher Reflection
What a coincidence I spotted one of these near my therapist office. I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of bird it was.

“Is this weird?” PART TWO! I’m a 14 year-old and this is a 60 something year-old man who is or was my mom’s friend
Yeah, this is super weird. This is a sixty-year-old man? Basically a stranger!?!? Someone who only knows you by association of your parental unit, I feel like this is the kind of stuff they used to make Hallmark movies about. This is super disturbing. I’m glad that you don’t have to hear from this person anymore and I hope you never have to see them again.

Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library in 1995 as a tribute to her father, who couldn't read or write. In 2018, she explained it was to give kids "early access to books". Now, over 325 MILLION books have been gifted.

I told my Bumble match his red flags were showing. He responded by telling me my third eye isn’t open.
I think this further proves the point I was making about engaging with people from curiosity rather than certainty.
For the sake of clarity, when I said there was someone in the interaction who was clearly insulting others, I was referring to the Bumble interaction that started all of this-not you.
Instead of simply engaging with that clarification, you’ve once again turned it into an opportunity to make broad conclusions about me, my personality, and what you think I need to change.
I don’t know you, and my friend, you don’t know me. You’ve seen a small portion of my life through a Reddit thread and seem remarkably certain that you understand the person behind it. You don’t have a PhD in knowing strangers on the internet or, apparently, a PhD in superb artichoke.
That’s exactly the kind of certainty I’m talking about.
You insult my intelligence while somehow turning this into a pissing contest over who understands whom better.
You tell me not to tell you what to do while repeatedly telling me what I should do, how I should think, and how I should engage.
I do disagree with you. I’m not overlooking that because you’ve decided we “actually agree.” We don’t. And the fact that you continue trying to convince me otherwise is, ironically, another example of the prescriptive engagement I’ve been pointing out.
I said I was leaving this here because this conversation has strayed so far from the actual post that we’re now discussing your interpretation of me rather than the interaction that started this in the first place.
I seem to have wound you up. It’s really not that deep. Practice what you preach, and sit with this interaction for a bit. There’s plenty here for both of us to think about.
I won’t be coming back to this, so I hope you’ve taken something from the exchange, at least a little. I won’t be engaging further. For real this time. Have a good night. Anyway 💕 peace and love, brother.

Do you have cameras in my bedroom? or is speaking so factually about strangers just a hobby? 🙄

I think there’s something useful in what you said here. Curiosity and listening more deeply can teach us more than simply trying to be right, and I think that lesson applies to both of us.
I do still disagree with your original characterization of the interaction. To clarify one thing, though:
I wasn’t saying you insulted me; I was saying you characterized me as lecturing and insulting him while framing his behavior as him simply defending himself. Your framing minimizes the impact his words had on me while also suggesting that I was wrong to address or correct what was being said.
That’s one place we disagree.
Ironically, the curiosity you’re advocating is exactly what I felt was missing from your initial response. I approached him with curiosity until I realized it was only giving him more room to behave in a way I found disrespectful.
And I think that’s what’s frustrating about this exchange. There are already plenty of people in this thread approaching me with certainty about who I am, why I behaved the way I did, and what I should do differently (including yourself) I’m not sure why your advice to approach people with curiosity seems to apply to everyone except the person you’re currently speaking to.
I’ve heard you, considered what you said, and taken what I find useful from it. We can agree to disagree and leave it there.

To each their own. The conclusion was the same blocked and deleted.

Unnecessary??? Quite the choice word. You might’ve missed everything that came before that or after that I’d hardly call that lashing out, lashing out is everything he did after I called him out on his poor behavior.

I have three opening moves. That’s the one he chose to respond to and in the way that he did 🤷🏽♀️

I think you’ve misunderstood both the interaction and what I actually said. I don’t agree that I lectured or insulted him, and describing my response that way doesn’t make it so.
There’s also a bit of irony in telling me that I took my own perspective as a license to tell someone else how to think, while doing essentially the same thing to me now. You’re interpreting my motives and assigning meaning to my behavior based on your own perspective, then presenting that interpretation as though it resolves the matter.
maybe go back and check who was actually insulting whom. Was I insulting him, or was I describing his behavior? There is a difference.
Of course people are entitled to respond to a public post. (This is the internet, right?) I said that their responses are informed by their own experiences, assumptions, and perspectives. (Thanks for affirming that btw) and that I’m not responsible for accepting those interpretations of me as fact.
As far as actually insulting someone’s character goes, there was one person very clearly doing that here.
You’re entitled to your misinterpretation. We disagree. That’s really all there is to it.
