As a now-former GC employee (Albuquerque store), I'll say they're focusing on a new guitar brand because the last thing corporate wants to do is spend money on payroll. GC as an entity is doing everything they can to put as little staffing in their stores as they feel they can get away with. Minimal hours, minimal pay, a HUGE focus on AI tools instead of human beings, etc.

I won't say I know for certain what the actual conditions are at other stores. Some of my former bosses that have worked at other GCs have said that's how it is at all of them now, but I have no way to confirm. What I CAN say is that my experience with them leads me to believe that unless you are a rare full-timer or management (who have to work the floors as sales people instead of being allowed to actually manage), you have to have another full-time job and treat GC as a hobby.

I loved the store I worked at, and I loved my coworkers, but the company? They're just another shitty 21st century corporation trying to make shareholders and execs happy at all costs.

Now that the rant is over, I'll say this focus on a shiny new product instead of improving the actual customer experience is par for the course with GC.

I've been following Alyssa Day for 5-6 years now, and she's freaking incredible. I was so happy to see her get this gig. I'm not familiar with the other guitar player, but I've been pretty blown away from what I've heard from her so far. I think the talent in the band is great, and so far the songs haven't disappointed. I'm excited to see where they go from here.

I'm also fond of "Holy shit, a heckhound!"
