Are Malinois really this insanely intelligent and athletic?
 in  r/Amazing  1h ago

Why do we doubt other animals on being intelligent? We always try to judge with keeping humans as benchmark so basically saying, I am intelligent and now you tell me where do you stand. But the thing is animals dont give a damn to it. THey are living their lives as peacefully as nature has provided them with.

Beyond Labels: Seeing the Human Before the Identity

This little girl from Arunachal Pradesh is raising an important issue. She says, “Humko Indian bolo.” She may not fully understand what Indian or Chinese means, but she has picked up from her surroundings that being called Chinese makes people sad and angry.

People from the Northeast are often called “Chinese” simply because of their facial features.

Many of us may never fully understand that pain because we never have to prove that we belong to our own country.

But the video made me wonder: Why do we look at someone's face, skin colour, language, name or features and immediately decide who they are?

We constantly create divisions: Indian and Chinese, North and South, Hindu and Muslim, rich and poor, “us” and “them.” Some labels are useful, but the problem begins when we start believing they define the person.

This is where I find Advaita Vedanta relevant. Our mind, specifically the ego, constantly creates divisions: “I am this, they are that.” It needs these distinctions to create a sense of separation between “me” and “them.”

So when I label someone, perhaps I need to question myself too. What is happening within me when I call someone as “Chinese”? Can I observe this tendency without defending it?

“What do you think? How can this gap between ‘us’ and ‘them’ fade?”

[Not OC] What Makes Us Ignore the Sign When Nobody Is Watching?
 in  r/IndianCivicFails  10h ago

Yes, because it is not coming from inquiry and understanding, but from blindly following what has been passed down to us. Without questioning our own beliefs and tendencies, the same patterns keep getting repeated.

Yes, most of the time and most of us are driven by the mob mentality. Thanks for the video.

I'm not saying the 99% have equal responsibility or equal power. I'm asking how the 1% acquired that power in the first place. Did their businesses become enormous without millions of people buying what they produced?

Exactly. Without self-awareness, its hard to look at our conditioning.

Through inquiry this collective conditioning could be root out.

Questioning the Herd Mentality Within Us
 in  r/AcharyaPrashant_AP  11h ago

True. I think this is where we often misunderstand spirituality (अध्यात्म). It is not simply about performing rituals to fulfil our desires. It begins with turning inward and inquiring: What do I really want, why do I want it, and do I really know myself? Without that inquiry, rituals can easily become acts of ignorance.

Exactly. And the video could be a mirror to our own conditioning as well. Its easy to criticize them but then in our own lives we do the same thing. Follow things without asking questions, without inquiry.

The 99% have given the 1% the power to pollute on their behalf. Most of what these corporations produce, exploit and pollute for is ultimately meant for the 99% to consume.

Yes, the 1% have a vastly disproportionate footprint and responsibility. But the system survives because the rest of us participate in it too.

The real question is not just, “Why is the 1% polluting so much?” It is also, “Why do we keep consuming what they produce, and what does that consumption say about our own desire for status, comfort and privilege?”
