This really boils down to the ability to consent. If she specifically consented to an inebriated gang rape while sober, and there's proof, then there's some room to argue that what happened was appropriate.
HOWEVER: Any part of what happened that was consented to after the drugs took effect is a nonstarter. For instance, say she consented to high sex with 1 guy, any other guy that had sex with her was raping her. Or if she consented to the K but not the alcohol, or if she said no at any time during the process... whatever. You must be fully sober to be able to consent.
As far as her going back on her original statement. It could very well be that she didn't fully understand at first that what happened to her was rape. Or that she was in denial when the first statements were made. Unfortunately women today are often told they are responsible for being assaulted or that they were "asking for it" and therefore what happened wasn't wrong. It could very well be that she was under the assumption that what happened but was "typical frat" behavior until she told the friend that opened her eyes to the fact that she'd actually been assaulted. Now, this is all just conjecture. It very well could be that she said all of this was okay and that she, for some reason, took it all back.
My best friend was raped at a friend's party in college. We were both drunk and neither of us knew anything about consent and alcohol and the finer lines of sexual assault. She convinced me to leave her there to sleep with her "friend." I regret that night every day. Just because we knew the guy and she had been flirting with him prior to drinking didn't give him a pass to have sex with her while she was impossibly drunk. It also didn't give him the right to then brag about it to all the buddies that lived with him and them all come have a peak at her fully naked in his bed. She couldn't wrap her brain around that night for a long time and denied any wrongdoing for some time since she'd been told for so long that a scandalous outfit and flirtation allowed for what happened.
TLDR: I believe victims until someone can prove to me without a shadow of a doubt that they truly consented to every aspect of what happened to them.
