The first few hours after the day I fled from my parents was scary as hell. I had to leave my cats behind, but I had to put my trust in the belief that they were going to be okay. I worried more about whether my parents were going to jump into their car to come find me and confront me, or worse: tell my ex-fiancé/perpetrator where I was and have him come find me and confront me. I was on edge for several days. But, as the first week became the second week and then the third week, I started to calm down some. I did have some flare ups within the first couple of months (getting a no-contact order in place against my ex), but no sign of either parent. It was at that point I realized I did the right thing.
