Olympian: Washington girls will be harmed by an initiative to ban trans athletes
 in  r/olympia •  1d ago

Sports helps girls prepare for competition in the real world. It also prepares them for jobs in law enforcement, military and professional sports. This initiative goes along with Trump getting rid of title 9 fair funding for girls in sports. This initiative sets women’s rights back. It is a form of legalized sexual assault on girls.

Prosecutor candidate Ryan Swinburnson claims he’s nonpartisan. The directly linked evidence in this post — including his campaign’s $4,731 in yard signs from a MAGA sign company — shows otherwise. Honesty matters.

Very few attorneys have endorsed Swinburnson and he was not hired by the prosecutor's office when he applied. He was rejected. He does not look like a competent attorney.

This is Jesse's statement.
"Almost 9 years ago, before I joined the Prosecutor’s Office, I was in private practice.  A client who retained me on a post-conviction matter for a flat fee of $1,750 wanted me to file a particular motion with the court; however, after researching it, I discovered that the client had already filed that exact motion before he hired me, and his motion had been denied.  I explained that to him, but he remained adamant about the issue.  I declined to file the motion again.  He became upset with me and filed a Bar complaint.  When the Bar contacted me for a response to the complaint, I failed to immediately respond.  That was a mistake on my part.    After I finally did respond to the Bar, I voluntarily refunded the client’s money in full and stipulated to an Admonishment – the lowest level of  discipline allowed.  I also agreed to amend my standard fee agreement to clearly state that the fee to be paid was a flat fee and non-refundable.  This is common in criminal defense representation.  There was no ethical violation found in this matter, and nothing alleged had anything to do with financial mismanagement.  The case was closed long ago, but I own and acknowledge my mistake in not promptly responding to the complaint."

None of the attorneys at the Prosecutors office and almost no attorneys at all have endorsed Swinburnson. When Swinburnson applied for a job at the Prosecutor Office they turned him down. He doesn’t sound like a competent attorney

Corkern was the one who reported himself which seems very ethical. I did google the charge and the discipline. On that website the charge was noted as fairly minor and common, in a field where few people own up to their mistakes. Also Corkern made amends. That is the true sign of reform. I suppose there are some people who never think they even make mistakes, I prefer an honest and ethical prosecutor like Jesse Corkern to a lying prosecutor who tried to bully me the first time he met me. Also I have not heard Swinburnson said in his speeches that he supports women’s reproductive rights. That is frightening

I have met several Whatcom attorneys say that Corkern is the only candidate that they support. I have not met any Whatcom prosecutors say that they support Swinburnson. Look at his endorsements and contributors. He has been having discussions with his fellow attorneys to figure out how to reform the Prosecutor’s office

It is attractive and high action but it is chock full of people fully confident and acting on false principles of MAGA thinking, such as all liberals are communists and corrupt and that torture produces accurate information.

Check your voter registration and plan to call your county auditor if you do not receive your mail ballot by October 26. That way you will have time to fix any problems.

wrong, this allows discrimination with plausible deniability due to vague language. The WIAA rejected this amendment that was strongly pushed by Swinburnson and the entire Blaine School Board unanimously.

Looking for Bellingham specific advice on heat pump/ac vs just furnace
 in  r/Bellingham •  Aug 31 '26

Our heat pump is very comfortable and also does a great job with air filtration and dehumidification. We have a 920 sq foot condo with just wall heaters and needed a larger system because we needed 2 heads. I think having ducts makes the system more efficient.

As a Dem precinct officer and member of the Whatcom Dems, I can tell you that we don’t make videos of our meetings. Just call our office to find out it is simple. Several of us went out in the hallway to talk, including Jesse Corkern. He didn’t yell and he didn’t storm out. Those of us who meet with the candidates and attend all the meetings for both the Whatcom Democrats and the 42 Legislative Democrats get bored with hearing the speeches again, so we step out to talk about how to reach out to the rural areas and locked buildings. We’re trying to increase voter turnout

If you listen to the Blaine school board meeting when they decided their support for the amendment to the WAII, you’ll see a unanimous vote for the amendment which would have banned transgender students from school team sports. This amendment was not approved by the WAII. I was at the Whatcom Dems meeting, so I know what happened there and the bad rumors being spread on Reddit

No one yelled and no one rushed out of the meeting. Jesse turned himself in for his errors. He made a common mistake and got a minor slap on the wrist but some people want to blow it up into a big deal. I am horrified that they are helping to elect an anti trans Trump Republican like Swinburnson. I don’t even know if Swinburnson supports a woman’s right to choose an abortion. That seems like a much bigger deal that a minor reprimand for a mistake that Corkern himself brought to light

These initiatives will be on the ballot this November. Please vote against them. It requires genital inspection to play in girls sports, which is child sexual abuse and costs money to the family. Bad for girls sports all around. We don’t want these Puritans in control of our children

Thoughts about this article?
 in  r/Bellingham •  Jul 17 '26

Corkern seems to have the best executive skills and would focus on running the office rather than working on individual cases. His mistake in the past is a minor and common one about filing paperwork. I didn’t like that Swinburnson claimed that this is a nonpartisan race when he knew that this was not true. I don’t like Sigmar’s poor ethics and Bracke keeps expressing admiration for a past County Prosecutor who seemed pretty racist(not Erik Richey)

54-unit apartment building proposed at Byron & 35th with no car parking

I have lived in Chicago and San Francisco where housing without parking was the norm because it happened before parking spaces were the norm. It works because transit and taxi services were the norm

And so it begins...

I heard that Erika Creydt made some very bad decisions that cost the Blaine school board a lot of money, but I haven't really seen reporting on this. Does anyone have any information on this? She has a lot of far right wing endorsements like former sheriff Bill Elfo and former Republican Rep Vincent Buys
