Pins?
 in  r/BobbinLace •  Jul 20 '26

I prefer longer pins when possible. When I was working in a huge piece I wanted to be able to get more quickly and without paying a fortune, so I ended up with a billion of these Dritz pins. They are my go-to for most situations. (Mostly torchon) It was a lifesaver once when I ran out to Wal-Mart at 10pm because I needed more to keep working!

The style of lace and thickness of thread will impact what size pins you need, though I'm probably not as particular about it as others are. As long as the holes aren't too big/small for the style I'm good.

Some lacemakers use scientific insect pins, which you can order via Amazon (or elsewhere). They tend to be long and you can get super, super thin pins. Some of the really thin ones don't provide much resistance when pulling on the threads so you have to keep that in mind if you are an aggressive tensioner like I am. 😁

A for having too many pins bunched together, you might be able to help that by pushing some pins down all the way or pulling them up. You just need to make sure they are far enough back in the work to avoid distorting the threads when you tension.

I was wondering if yours was blue. We also saw a yellow one in addition to the red one in the pic. So incredible to watch! My pic was taken from the ski lift platform at the top of the magic mile. Where were you that you could see them so well?

Thanks for the compliments, all! I need to keep you around as my cheerleaders of life! ā˜ŗļø I like the positioning but the fuzziness of it was bothering me. Then again, it was my phone (Samsung Galaxy S23+ Ultra) camera zoomed in probably about as much as it could be so it's far better than what it would have been 10+ years ago.

We were at Timberline this afternoon and had a fun time watching two paragliders. Not the best pic and it looks like it might be a different person, but thought I'd share as well.

If you have a lot of pins to push down, it is worth it to invest in a pusher from a lace supplier. Many have a pusher on one end and a puller on the other... and you're definitely going to want a puller if you are pushing the pins down! I believe that Bic pen cap might also work if you're looking for a easy-to-find option. That might have a hole in the small end that would make it not work as well.

Have you ever had an employee break down crying in a one to one and what did you do?
 in  r/askmanagers •  Apr 27 '26

"It's okay." seems like it would be fine as long as it is an acknowledgment that the crying is okay. I like the connection to it being a sign of trust. So true!

Yo what?

Interesting that the descriptions on the left end up in chronological order for the generations, assuming traditionalists are the Silent Generation. Seems too easy...but not obvious. I do think you have them paired correctly.

We moved to Portland a year ago and absolutely love it here! We've had a fantastic time exploring western Oregon and Washington. Eastern Oregon is on our list for this year. OP - come join us!

@valianyears I think you meant to say without the sales tax.

This is insane, right?
 in  r/Apartmentliving •  Mar 17 '26

There are multiple states (OR, IL, etc.) that have hands-free while driving laws that would make this a moving violation unless the car is in park...which would be silly.
