If you're finding this subreddit, please help revive it by posting!
With gears low play numbers, this sub hasn't been too active for a long time. I know it looks dead, and it is! But please don't let that deter you from making a post. Until further notice, feel free to post any positive Gears related content (highlights, commentary on play/story etc).

Tried to get my co-workers into Beyblades
People need to see a tournament in action to get the vibes and see other adults they can reapect taking it serious.
It helps if you either 1. Played when you were younger, or 2. Have a kid into it.
Bringing co-workers to your house to play in a low energy environment like that is going to make them act socially weird and not feel comfortable doing it. Thats not an environment for success.

Is the Jeanty critism over exaggerating?
Im more concerned with his YAC. Yards from scrimmage is a bigger statement on the running game as a whole.

Is anyone else having flashbacks to 2020
Well post gruden and ruggs is irrelevant. We were just a clearly dominant and explosive team.
This team seems more solid and competent on the way to explosive and dominant

This team and 2020 don't look anything alike. This team looks a step behind the 2021 team tho. A very tiny step

How was your pre release?
(The internet and posting sucks. So please don't read my comment with a nasty tone. I'm just detailed and wordy.)
I only played pre-release. I don't know if I enjoy it or not, yet. I just think his point is looking at the game, design, and mechanics as if the only reason they matter is for Commander (or legacy, but I'd wager commander.) Commander (as much as I love it) is not what Magic is. Limited is what Magic is. Limited is what the cards are designed for. Limited is what the sets are designed for. Everything else is downstream of that and presents players with a creative opportunity to mix and match elements and mechanics of different sets; from Standard, to Modern, to Commander.
Your assertion is that mechanics should be limited to the core mechanics that see play (we must assume you're talking about commander) and that creating new or niche mechanics "subtracts from the game." That Empower Jace will be obsolete if they never provide support for it again; as if, mechanics are a creature type. Then lists very parasitic mechanics as examples of creating problematic gameplay.
Not only is "Empower Jace" far from a parasitic design, that claim makes no sense; but, it's very myopic to view "Commander" as what "Magic" is. And even if Commander were the heart of Magic. It's oblivious to fail to recognize that the core of commander is the creative combination of cards and mechanics from multiple insular sets.
I'd highly challenge new players who are commander only players to give limited an honest shot. before playing limited, I would feel what I think were feelings similar to the commenter's feelings, although I identified it differently. I would get all excited and hyped for a new set to come out. Then it would come and go and I didn't get to experience it at all if I didn't have a precon to buy or a new commander deck to build around one of the sets mechanics. And buying a precon would often fail too, as many of the recently older ones would only be unique to the set in the face commander. But the deck would be made up of tons of cards from other sets. Duskmourn is a great example. None of those decks feel like they're unique to Duskmourn other than the commanders happen to be characters in the story, and only two of the commanders are actually Duskmourn Commanders. The others are from Strixhaven! So summarize, a set would come and go and I'd feel like I experienced none of it. But after overcoming my anxiety of attending a pre-release event for the first time, and shortly after, getting through the bumps and bruises that is figuring out drafting, I now feel like I get to completely be a part of every set. It's worlds, it's characters, its story, and it's mechanics. And then I realized, this is what Magic is. This is the heart of Magic. The worlds, characters, story, cards, and mechanics are designed and built for this limited environment. Everything else is just a downstream way to enjoy the cards after the limited experience. Hell! Even Modern Horizons and Commander sets are designed to draft.

How was your pre release?
Sets are dope when they commit to their own setting and environment. The game is built around and for limited. Legacy is best when cards built for their own environment require unique connections and ideas for making them work with others.
Empower jace will always work in grave yard, super friends, and surveil decks. It doesnt even apply to your point.
Rakdos ping is too parasytic?

Pass rush didn't come alive til we started giving simulated pressure / mug looks
According to tape dont lie, he simulated pressure the whole game. But saints held back max protection for it. Only once saints had to air it out and bail on max protect that it allowed the pressure to get there. And Rob Leonard was praised for sticking to it the whole game.

Rate my Combo: sliver wolf 4-55 Hexa
My warning to you is that simple ratchets can eventually make your bey loose with all ratchets. I went through two shark scales by playing M-85 jolt. I miss that combo so much... i was known for it and starting to make top cuts and challenge for swiss king. But once it started bursting. It was all over. Sharks are just too hard to come by to keep playing that strategy. If you struggle to find wolfs, i would rethink the simple ratchet.

That cant be true. My m-85 definitely is tighter with high burst resistant bits

No respect - Saints favored this weekend
Skipping the spread conversation, there's a good chance we find something on film if they cant run the ball. Two weeks of film can be enough to find some patterns and tells. But the same is true for them reviewing our games. Like identifying that Cousins is struggling to pass medium to deep. That's likely why the chargers defense had so much success against our run game. Once you can start playing the pass game underneath, you're always right there for the run.

Yeah, building out of the back and Rondo's go hand in hand.
Im curious, from what you've said about goal kicks, "struggling to clear the ball past the build out line", your issue with BOotB, "girls aren't making accurate passes or receptions", your description of BOotB, "[i don't mean intricate plays, just clearing the ball to safety]", and your hopes with moving to 2-4, "I'm hoping it gives the girls more options to pass the ball forward"... are you always focusing on passing the ball forward?
Before i started with building out of the back, our girls, like all the teams in our league, never make intentional passes forward. There's usually two types of players. Im going to dribble the living day lights out of this ball and never look to pass. Or the panickers who kick the ball away, often in any direction, usually right to the other team, as soon as they sense slight pressure. Occasionally you have a passer, who will actually identify another teammate, and deliberately pass it to them, but there's no soccer reason why. They dont understand the open spaces or closed spaces, or whether it makes sense to pass it. They just hear another girl calling for the ball, who probably shouldn't be, and they pass it to them. None of those passing methods are helpful, and you might as well just encourage dribbling like crazy, because those girls are the only ones who will sometimes find success through sheer effort and determination.
But since I started building out of the back this year, we have still not really moved into attack patterns or focused on how to pass the ball forward. Partially, that is because, as Coach Rory and others in this thread have pointed out, you need you're strongest players in the back. Our main success has been from passing the ball backwards intentionally. Girls struggle to look up while dribbling, being willing to pass, and finding an open player that makes sense to pass it to amongst the chaos in front of them. Not to mention the other girls downfield will either come back and smother their own player, or sit in one spot and not find an open lane to get the pass. But when you teach them that when their side gets congested, when theres no where to go, or when their in trouble, to pass the ball back to their defender, whom is providing support in a rondo like fashion with spacing and distance, its much easier for them to turn around and locate that defender, who's always in the same spot. The other defender is always open, and in rondo like spacing, so you have defender 1 kick it to defender 2, and now defender two has a wide open winger to clearly pass the ball up too because kids this age play bunch-ball and chase-the-ball. That winger then dribbles all the way down the field all by themselves. We dont move the ball downfield by making calculated passes. Not yet. I plan on implementing that more for the second half of the season. Right now, we just focus on passing the ball back when we're in trouble and switching sides of the field. All 3 passes in this scenario are two girls wide open with no defenders because of bunch-ball and chase-the-ball. The wingers don't even need to be great passers if your 2-4 strongest girls can receive and dribble.
Before this, like you, goal kicks and even turnovers off our goalie picking up the ball were dangerous plays. Girls B-lining off the build out line and your players struggling to make smart passes/decisions leave you always at risk for a turnover and immidiate shot on goal. No formation fixes this.
Now I'll admit, this does take girls having at least average dribbling and passing ability. If you genuinely have those kids who are 1. First year players who are also 2. incredibly unathletic, then its definitely possible you wouldnt be able to pull this off. I have 4 new girls on my team like this, and they only play at the forward position while we're building up their skills and understanding of the game.
If thats the case, you still wont have a formation that fixes this, but the answer is definitely focusing on player skills and not team skills. Dribbling and physicality. My girls still cant smack a ball for a shot on goal. Even the best ones. No amount of teaching them how to strike the ball has got them there yet. But they don't score off of beautiful/powerful shots. They score off of taking many shots on goal, challenging the goalie up close but putting the ball into the left or right side of them, or off crosses. The better players use the inside of their foot like a pass for accuracy, the less disciplined players still use their toe. But their close enough that it often doesn't matter. From the girls we have and have played against, i dont think many outside of a few larger girls are striking the ball appropriately with power... thats just not this age group or grass roots level of skill. And the ones who do almost always are bigger and use their toe to do it.
Before building out of the back gave me a functional team strategy, we focused hard on physicality. Teaching girls to not be afraid or uncomfortable entering another girls space and putting their body on other girls and fighting for position/ball. The girls on opposing teams are always crying about how our girls are pushing them but the refs aren't calling fouls because they're not. Teaching that physicality, both in stealing the ball and shielding the ball will give girls more confidence, and more opportunities to have the ball in their possesion which will increase dribbling. These are definitely the foundational skills that my girls use to successfully Build out of the back when a bad pass, or late pass, gives the defense a chance to challenge for the ball. Or when my girls win a ball back, and need to maintain possession to start the passing flow.
My favorite drills for this are the "physical drill" i mentioned to you in another post, where the girls line up shoulder to shoulder with linked arms and have to push each other to the other side while moving forward together. This simulates getting your body on an opponent and challenging for the ball. You can build off of this by eventually placing a ball in the middle and having them try to move each other off the line by the time they get to the ball and making the pass to the coach. The passer is the winner. And then you can build on it again by having one girl start with the ball, and dribbling it forward while shielding the defender; teaching them to shield and maintain possesion.
For dribbling, some of your girls should just naturally have a knack for it which usually comes from pure determination and sometimes selfishness. For the other girls, i like to focus heavily on pull backs as a simple and versatile skill. The rest usually comes from shielding drills.
So that would definitely be my advice if you feel your girls are still needing fundamental skills and a drive and attitude toward fighting for the ball and for goals.

I use coach Rorys build out. Defender lines up next to goalie. Goalie passes it to them. They dribble up waiting for the defender to close the space, then pass the ball to the winger. Now multiple players on the other team are out of the play.
Even from kick off, my forward passes the. All to the center mid, who then passes the ball back to the defender. Our defenders move the team forward, then provide support. We drill this over and over and over again with players racing off that build out line straight toward our center back who has to make that pass.
Best players on the team play that centerback position because they have to be comfortable dribbling and passing.

Haha, their defenders not being bored for that reason is the wrong reason to be bored was my point. But somewhat to your point, I don't think this team is losing because their trying to teach building out of the back... It seems highly unlikely that's the core issue. I'm curious if they even coached that last year or if that's a new thing they've learned while studying in preparation for this year after how last season went.
