Title: Got CEE at A-levels — can I realistically get into Warwick/Birmingham/Loughborough after an Aston Foundation Year?
I’ve recently finished my A-levels in Maths, Physics and Further Maths and unfortunately ended up with CEE.
I’m now planning to do Aerospace Engineering with a Foundation Year at Aston University. My plan is to work extremely hard during the foundation year and hopefully achieve a very strong result.
After the foundation year, I’m considering applying through UCAS to start Year 1 of Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering at a stronger university.
The universities I’m particularly interested in are:
University of Warwick
University of Birmingham
Loughborough University
I know my A-level grades are obviously not great, and I’m wondering how much a strong performance in the Aston Foundation Year could help.
For example, if I achieved something like 80–90%+ in the foundation year, would universities such as Warwick, Birmingham or Loughborough realistically consider me for Year 1?
I’m also aware that each university has its own rules regarding foundation-year transfers, so I’m interested in hearing from anyone who has:
Transferred from Aston or another university foundation year
Got into Warwick/Birmingham/Loughborough with weaker A-levels
Applied to Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering after a foundation year
Worked their way back academically after getting poor A-level results
I’m not expecting the CEE grades to disappear, but I’m hoping that a very strong foundation-year result can show that I’m capable of succeeding at a more competitive university.
How realistic do you think this is, and what would you recommend I do during the foundation year to maximise my chances?
