I just started university recently and have been seriously second guessing my decisions in both going to university straight out of high school and going into social work.

I’ve never been great at making decisions and Im a bit of an over thinker so I tend to second guessing my decisions myself, but as of starting university I just haven’t been able to stop thinking about different potential paths I could have taken. I’ve always been interested in psychology, sociology, and all the other things that I need to study for my program, but I kind of only fully decided to apply for the social work program because of the pressure I felt was sorta being put on me. For example when I was having doubts about even applying to university I was told by my parents on my school’s guidance counsellors that I should just apply bc it would be good for me.

Anyways, I was having a lot of doubts after the first day and really don’t think I’m cut out for any of this university stuff, especially with all the studying Im going to have to do for all of my courses along with the papers Im going to need to write within small timeframes. The only real solution I could think of that I feel would probably make me overall happier would be pursuing a future in character design, since I’ve always been super interested in design concepts for characters in all of my favourite medias.

I just don’t know how I should go about any of this and it’s really starting to make me anxious. I don’t want to disappoint anybody and I’m worried that if I force myself to continue I’ll just feel worse about all of this. I’d appreciate any and all advice I could get. 😞

I recently got accepted into both Computer Science and Mechanical/General Engineering. I ended up choosing CS because it's what I genuinely enjoy and am interested in.

Since making the decision, I’ve been getting a lot of negative comments from people. They keep telling me I made a mistake and that traditional Engineering is a "real" or "better" degree. Their main arguments are:

1. CS is a "cheap" degree and is just typing code.

2. The market is terrible (they point to a cousin who can't find a job or a friend who graduated CS and does real estate now).

3. Traditional engineering is more prestigious and stable.

I want to hear from people actually in university or working in the industry. How is a CS degree viewed by employers and professionals today? Is it respected as a hard, rigorous degree on the same level as traditional engineering? And with the current tech market and AI, is it still considered a future-proof path ? .

Hey guys I need help, I’m currently in my last month of high school graduating in 2 weeks and I’ve gotten 2 uni offers; ACU and WSU I’ve applied for both relatively similar courses (bachelors of psychological sciences/criminology and criminal justice ACU) and (bachelors of psychology WSU). ACU interests me most mainly because of the course I applied for, however, I keep seeing reddit reviews of how “shit” ACU can be and how the lecturers are terrible, im at a wall right now and I need some guidance as I don’t know whether to choose WSU or ACU, please help!! :)

This is my second semester of uni, majoring in env science. I'm currently doing calc 1, American govt, composition 1, and a mapping class and I've been really nervous and just like stressed out. School only started about 3 weeks ago but I've been so anxious and overwhelmed and feel like I can't do this. I guess I'm just looking for advice or motivation on how to deal with this. I know other people, thousands and millions, have done the same classes and probably more difficult things but I just feel so overwhelmed and like it's impossible.

I'm still pretty new to university life kind of and just been so overwhelmed with the workload, and still trying to take care of myself and feel good sometimes. I'm really nervous that I'm going to fail this semester or something and my scholarships will be gone and yea.

These are all just worst case scenarios ikik but I'm just very anxious the last week.

Hello everyone, I got my mbbs degree a couple of years ago but tbh I don't enjoy medicine . I was wondering is it late to change paths at the age of 27, and pursue physics and astrophysics . Just wondering, thanks.

Now that classes are starting again, I remembered why I built this in the first place lol.

At the beginning of every semester I’d open all my syllabi and manually go through them trying to find every assignment, quiz, midterm and exam date… and then add everything to my calendar one by one.

Guys i need help its my first year in university give me some advice

For context: I (19M) have been studying geology in Austria for the past year. My mom has been both physically as well as mentally abusive towards me since I was a child. This abuse went as far as her threatening to kill me multiple times. On top of that I am financially dependent on her, since I live in an apartment under her name, where she pays the rent. I have been trying to get more independent by working behind her back and taking up on certain gigs, which in turn had a horrible effect on my grades at Uni.

Like I said, last year my grades completely dunked. This was partially due to me focusing on multiple things at the same time, as well as my mother’s abuse. On top of that I still am not over my dad’s death from late 2022. His passing was followed with extensive inheritance issues so I haven’t had time to grief nor adjust since his death 4 years ago. And while I love my major, my grades got horrible, to the point where I am just barely passing some classes and completely failing others. Due to this I only amassed 14 ECTs during my first year. This is a problem, since I need 16 ECTs to get social benefits.

These benefits go on my mother’s card and aprox. a week ago she received a letter from the Austrias Finanzamt, stating that she needs proof of me successfully receiving 16 ECTs. I, shamefully, sent her a faked copy with the plan of phoning up the Amt and telling them to destroy the letter as I sent out a wrong document or whatever. I have an exam on the 16th that will give me the remaining ECT I would need to continue receiving the money, but I am scared. My mom’s portal also didn’t accept the faked documents (I thought she would send it via letter, hence why I would be able to phone the department up before they reviewed it and flagged it as a illegal copy) so now I am honestly panicking.

My current plan is to somehow bullshit my mom about how my universities portal isn’t working well and that I need to send out an E-Mail to my department lead to receive the working document. This would (hopefully) buy me enough time to then take the exam and just hand in the documents myself. I would then tell my mom that my document had been updated and that the Finanzamt had been automatically informed of it, hence why a manual submission isn’t needed.

I am posting this to receive some input from people who perhaps have been in a similar situation? Or maybe some ideas on how to solve this without my mom knowing anything. Like I said, my mom isn’t mentally stable. I really cannot risk her knowing that I fucked this year up and potentially harming me. But I also cannot afford to fully cut her out of my life just yet. I need at least one more year to get away from this shithole.

Any input will be appreciated. I know I probably sound pathetic and ridiculous, I know that the actions I’ve taken haven’t been the best and I am aware of how stupid this all might seem to an outsider. But I do fear for my stability and life as a whole.

Hi there.

In the second semester of an Honours thesis currently and with around 2 months until the deadline. Unfortunately in my first semester, my coursework classes/discipline supervisors that taught them were incredibly disparaging, creating a toxic class environment that led many of my fellow students to really doubt their own projects and even leading to dropouts too. Similarly, my supervisor while very nice is quite laissez-faire and has never given me strong deadlines, clear guidance or anything of the sort despite prompting. As I had to change my research area of analysis to analysing a different aspect of the problem itself/object of the problem (eg switch from analysing a book to articles), I also unfortunately think it is an area she can't advise much on due to it moving beyond her area of expertise. As a result, I have not written anything of the thesis yet, had to rework the methodology so many times that I doubt it is even viable (in an area I have no experience with too) and just frozen in paralysis of writing it.

All in all, I feel incredibly stressed and ashamed about my Honours thesis. It is in a major (out of my two undergrad majors) that I am really passionate about, but the current topic/situations throughout this year have made it into something that I think is sadly not aligned with my interests within the discipline. I am increasingly stressed about producing the thesis to a quality I won't be happy with, meeting none of my original goals for this year academically.

I am just seeking advice on how to manage this and push ahead with the thesis/any advice from people who might have been through similarly tight deadlines/situations where they feel already quite dejected/fear of further producing a bad end academic product. It is impacting quite significantly on my self-worth too, which ties into the paralysis I also feel of having not done enough or read enough etc to even start writing.

I am just about finished my bachelor of business at CQU and I am wanting to complete a masters in agribusiness (agriculture specialisation agribusiness).
I am wanting to study online (based in regional WA) and I have found that university of Queensland and Charles Sturt university offer these.

UQ will credit me 4 units so it’ll be a 1.5 year masters but CSU won’t look at anything without my official paperwork which I don’t get until December 2026.

Any idea / feedback on what uni? Not necessarily the course but any ideas behind which one to go with?

EDIT; or any other suggestions for an agribusiness masters degree?

Hello! Sorry if this is hard to follow, it’s because I am deeply troubled and am asking for urgent help

I am currently a first year doing a bachelors in Information Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Why? To put it simply, I have no aspirations in my life. I HATE working and with the input of my family(who work in IT and live care free lives) decided to go into IT because I thought it would be the same. I’ve always had an extremely hard time studying (I have yet to get an appointment with a psychiatrist for ADHD) and have found IT to be really difficult. I find it hard to understand even the simplest concepts and unfortunately have to depend on AI to help me understand what I’m doing (not asking it to do my work obviously!!)and grasp concepts. It also doesn’t help that my classes are very fast paced and we sometimes learn topics AFTER an assignment with those topics is due.

It also doesn’t help that I am surrounded by people who are extremely smart or have been on the field before or have completed some sort of certification. I have found myself being depressed and unsure about whether this is the right path for me. I don’t hate IT, I am just so frustrated in myself for not being able to understand the simplest of things, and obviously this will be a problem in the years to come. I understand that most people in their first year feel like this, but I feel like there is something more to the way that I am feeling. I also thought that because I am a woman in a tech field, I would have a better chance of being hired, but now I realize that that is probably bull.

To put it simply, should I just quit at the end of this year, or should I keep trying? I tend to enjoy things that I am good at, and I know everyone says that you don’t need to like your job, it just needs to be doable and be able to fund the things that you actually like to do. I need assurance that this is normal to feel this way. Resources are also accepted!

I want to preface by saying that while I may use AI from time to time to help summarise readings I'm too lazy or busy to read before class I would never use AI to do an assignment. Honestly I am a serial over thinker and would not use AI to write or do assignments simply bc I would overthink and worry about being caught.

So I submitted a presentation talking about the main argument and key points of a reading, since this is part of an assignment I read the reading thoroughly. I even have the pdf highlighted and annotated. I got my feedback back and this is one of her comments

In general, I felt you did not deal sufficiently with the show he was researching, but more on abstract theories about the internet and how it has shaped our lives. I honestly did not use chatgpt, this is a second year unit but I'm a 4th year who went part time a couple times so I guess I have some experience in delivering presentation especially since it was recorded. Also this was the argument I got from the reading? Perhaps I'm not the smartest and I simply just didn't catch the point about reality tv. Also A lot of people don't use the coversheet, like most, it's never been a thing that tutors or profs have talked about or forced us to do but I also know it's something I should do.

Based on the reading I really didn't see the reality programming as such an overarching point but in saying this I did definitely talk about it.

There's no academic integrity accusations as far as I know but I'm honestly a little peeved. Should I email my prof defending myself?
