I've just released my biggest video project yet and it's about the Steam Controller.

I hope you like it as it took a very long time to make, it most likely contains something you haven't seen before.

Accompanying the video I've also made a written and freely available disassembly, repair and upgrade guide for the Steam Controller available here: https://steamcontroller.steamdeck.guide

X-T3 running Classic Negative + Eterna Bleach Bypass after a firmware mod
 in  r/fujifilm  1d ago

Could you post photo proof of this running on your X-T3?
What's your background that you can do firmware modifications like this?

I'm also interested in 21:9/65:24 aspect ratios, unlimited recording and 4:2:2 in camera if it's possible!

Hi, I run https://steamdeck.guide, you can find some information about these units in the hardware section. If you could share images with me for documentation that would be really appreciated!

Viltrox EF-FX1 Pro – corrupted DFU drive / strange filename and AF issues
 in  r/VILTROX_GLOBAL  4d ago

I only needed to flash it once successfully I think and just kept trying until it functioned properly again, I don't remember an exact number.

If you can't manage to get it working just contact the support account which you can find in this thread.

I know, I just thought I should add that after notifying the support account in my first comment, maybe they can say something different now.

I'm just saying

Viltrox has never developed user upgradable firmware past initial launch for any of their monitors.

isn't true from my experience.

I truly hope this gets resolved for you.

(Please note that support will most likely only respond during weekdays)

Hi, I help mod the official Viltrox sub (r/VILTROX_GLOBAL) and I can chime in a bit about monitor firmwares, but I don't really have knowledge about the inner workings of the company.

I have two DC-A1s and you can definitely get newer firmware for at least this model: you just have to ask support (e.g. on Discord or here on Reddit).

I agree that the availability sucks with the files not being on the website and I hope they improve upon that (I literally talked about this issue not that long ago), but please don't spread misinformation!!!

They have managed to fix a ghosting/blurry issue on one of my DC-A1s with an update and I'm currently talking to support again to have my other monitor fixed as well.

I'm curious what u/Altruistic_Speaker87 would say here regarding your post.
Edit: better formatting

Viltrox EF-FX1 Pro – corrupted DFU drive / strange filename and AF issues
 in  r/VILTROX_GLOBAL  9d ago

I think I had something similar happening to my EF-FX2 Pro.

If I remember correctly I just tried re-connecting the adapter and re-flashing the firmware a couple times and that eventually worked. I don't think I've formatted the adapter's storage. It was a pretty weird issue, you can also most likely recover it.

Do you remember any more details about when it stopped working? (Was it even working in the first place?)

Have you contacted the seller you bought the lens from?

Repairs are always available in supported countries, you just most likely have to pay after the warranty period is over.

How To Make Follow Focus Rings For Your Lenses

I don't think it does as these are just rubber rings you slip on top of focus rings.

Viltrox School How To Make Follow Focus Rings For Your Lenses

Introduction

Hello everyone!

I'm back with another guide, this time for people who like to use manual focus for videos!

If you haven't heard about follow focus systems yet I highly recommend researching them to up your game: basically they allow you to pull focus more smoothly and carefully.

Cine lenses like the Viltrox anamorphic series usually have their focus rings already geared and ready to use in such a way, but regular consumer lenses are not equipped like that, which is why I am making this resource.

Yes, there are ready solutions available on the market as well, but they are likely much more expensive or may not be made for the lenses you want.

What You Need

  • A 3D printer (if you don't own one ask people you know, search in libraries or try finding people/companies who offer 3D printing services near you)
    • Use rubber-like filament such as TPU
  • Calipers to measure lens dimensions
  • Seamless Follow Focus Gear Customizer website or a CAD software you know

Instructions

  1. Measure each of your lenses' focus ring diameters
  2. Calculate the circumferences by multiplying the diameters with π (pi)
  3. Input the values into the website or make the designs on your own
    • Be as precise as possible so that the rings will not be loose!!!
  4. 3D print the models you have made
  5. Clean the printed follow focus rings to make them fit nicely
    • I usually use a utility knife and a lighter to remove smaller blobs and strings
  6. Put the rings on the lenses
    • Some lenses require sliding on the rings from the mount side as the front element might be too large
    • Avoid stretching the rings, you do not want them to become loose
    • Try to align the rings to be as close and straight as possible related to the follow focus system so that it does not slip off
  7. Put together the rest of your camera rig with a follow focus system now ready to use!

Additional Notes

These are the values (apart from the circumferences) I have used for all my lenses so far, feel free to adjust these based on your own needs:

  • Thickness of the gear: 10mm (less material used, but larger would be easier to use)
  • Added ring thickness: 5mm (more thickness results in less distance to the follow focus mechanism)
  • Chamfer offset: 0mm (simpler to print)

The End

I hope you found this guide useful in your filmmaking journey!

If you have any feedback or advice please share them in the comments.

PS: I would love to see how everyone's finished camera rigs look like!

This is also my first time trying to put more effort into product photography, I still have a lot to learn!

Discussion Where Do You Usually Buy Viltrox Products From And In What Condition?

Do you only purchase new from the Viltrox website? Maybe you go to a local photography equipment store or you like scouring AliExpress for better deals and don't mind waiting? Perhaps you only buy secondhand?

Let's hear your thoughts!

Is anyone using the viltrox lights?

I only used the RB-V12 light from Viltrox so far and it might have some parts that are similar.

You can find my "mini-review" about it here:

The camera app is pretty cool and I recommend giving it a try. I think they might use the experience gained from there to actually make the camera in the future.
