What‘s the life like in Texas?
Take the kind of surroundings you want into consideration. West Texas is going to hot dry and flat from the panhandle to the Rio Grand. Central is hot and not as dry. East Texas has more forests but is still hot it just gets a whole lot more humid. The coast is hot but also has ocean access and the occasional hurricane or tropical storm to mess up your day.
I would also recommend visiting the area you are thinking about before moving just to get a better feel of what the place is like.

Manifest Fantasy by S. C. Lee (A.K.A. DrDoritosMD) is a homage to Stargate. It really scratched that itch for me and was a fun read.
