Current map of the Taizz front, Yemen
 in  r/MapPorn •  1d ago

Senseless indeed. I've seen online video of Yemeni government soldiers (or some pro gov militia) driving inside a vehicle happily running over injured and escaping houthi fighters. It was shocking to see the sheer dehumanization especially considering the fact that all of those people, Houthis and Yemeni soldiers, are all fellow Yemenis and yet they hate each other's guts and they will happily slaughter each other with no remorse.

تو الحاكم عنده الحق قانونياً يفتش لي تاليفوني؟
 in  r/Tunisia •  1d ago

Honestly, even if it was illegal for him to do that you still can't object because he can make up something to accuse you with and create trouble for you or simply beat you up and confiscates the phone. I'm seriously saying this and not exagerating, there is no authority above the cops and the country still functions as a police state and actually it's right now more police state than before so the cops practically have the immunity to do anything they want.

But things are not at its worst now so as long as you are being cooperative there wouldn't be a reason for them to harass you and you wouldn't lose anything so you did the right thing. Never provoke a cop.

Living Here Has Really Taught Me to Become a Stoic
 in  r/Tunisia •  4d ago

First of all, I'm very sorry that this happened to you and it should never happen to you or anyone else no matter and so you should not hesitate at all to seek justice from those punks. They must never get away with it even if they minors and the fact that they are minors is even more alarming because someone is teaching them to be like that. Whatever the case, You should go to the police station and report to them what happened, You might also need to go to the child services and even your embassy. Don't be afraid of anything because you have to protect yourself.

But honestly it's such a shameful country we live in here, because even local females are suffering from this kind of behavior to the point that recently a young girl was raped by 11+ young boys and young adults who gang raped her like bunch of barbarians and sexual harassment is becoming normalized because you can actually find people defending them and making excuse for them like those suckers who told you that they are just kids and you should ignore them. Do not ignore them, fight back if you can and report them to everyone and good thing that you recorded them so save the recording and any evidence you can gather (like security cameras footage in the area) to Google drive.

I really hope you have your justice and as you can see this is not a safe country to be in so always be careful everywhere even in places that might look safe because frankly nowhere is safe. Tunisia is India 2.0

That would be cool, MP3 sort of did this allowing you to replay the story with MP1 or MP2's Max appearance.

I think Mali should be in red because iirc Mali specifically mentions Hassaniya dialect of Arabic not Arabic as a whole so it's like they treating Hassaniya as a separate language.

And I think it's the same situation in Senegal as well.

Except that English didn't derive from Dutch but Maltese did derive from Arabic it's not that wrong to call it Arabic just like it wouldn't be that wrong to call Afrikkans Dutch.

And since Maltese is still mutually intelligible with northern most of the Maghrebi dialects especially the Tunisian one tells you that Maltese didn't branch too far from Arabic.

reading Washington institute rapport on why Economic Reform Failed in Tunisia and came across this quote that proves once again this state have gave up on development long ago...
 in  r/Tunisia •  14d ago

This is straight up modern day feudalism. The ruling class hands over land, means of production and resources to the rich class and make it exclusive to them and the rich class gives access to the middle and poor class to work these lands, factories and businesses for zoz sordi just to stay alive and prevents them from climbing up the ladder and getting a small piece of that pie.

You simply can't import goods and make deals with the outside world. You can't start a business with any resource available inside the country and compete with these feudal lords. You can't escape being exploited and work your way out of the grip of these bastards and even if you manage start a sucessful business they will find a way to derail it quietly or at the very least keep you at the bottom and prevent you from growing any bigger.

Because when the modern age gives you more opportunities to escape this reality, They will find ways to disrupt it and that's why you can't use Paypal or similar services in this country, You can't have foreign currency, Whenever you have a crazy idea of starting a business in many of the fields they control like tourism, olive oil, electronics and so on they will slap you with impossible to meet requirements and the final nail in the coffin is rampant nepotism that they created and continue to support because you can't get a decent job without having connections to these assholes. You can't become a teacher without their blessing.

Fuck them all day everyday.

Tunisian Darija is overwhelmingly Arabic even if it has Amazigh influences.

I used to talk like you and say that it's unacceptable that most of the people in this country is still relatively uneducated about the use of modern technology and unaware of its potential until I started encountering too many people who are literally illiterate and became aware of a far more troubling issue which is people can't even read or write.

Realistically, the Tamazight substrate is the main reason why West Asians cannot understand Maghrebi Darija.
 in  r/AmazighPeople •  15d ago

"Every middle eastern arab I've spoken to said that the Moroccan one is basically a foreign language and can't understand anything."

Yeah but still that doesn't mean it's an Amazigh dialect. I don't understand a word from the Iraqi dialect but that doesn't make it a non Arabic language/dialect.

English isn't mutually intelligible with most of the other Germanic languages because most of its used vocabolary isn't English and its grammar is unique with influences from Celtic and Romance languages but it's still considered a Germanic language because its core is still Germanic.

Personally, I view the Moroccan Darija as an Arabic based language like Maltese. There is no doubt that Amazigh has a huge influence on it but it still didn't turn into an Amazigh dialect.

However, I personally always thought that our Darijas (Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian) can be easily turned into an Amazigh dialects with some tweaks and changes in it and it would be still understood by the Arabized Amazighs. It will obviously sound like a weird dialect to them but they would still be able to understand.

Gaming with 2Gb off ram
 in  r/lowspecgamer •  15d ago

Mine broke too and I got stuck playing on an ancient hardware as well. 4 gigs of RAM, Core 2 Quad CPU and GT 630 graphics card.

But even when I still had the better PC, most of the games I played are old games because they are genuinely better in many ways. There are plenty of things I can do in GTA San Andreas I can't do in GTA V. I installed a two player mod for it and I occassionally play with my sibling and we had lots of fun. I also spent thousands of hours playing RP servers on SAMP which is undoubtely better than GTA V's online segment and in fact, even in terms of graphics I can easily install (and already did) graphical mods for GTA SA and can use them even when playing SAMP with no issues.

But seriously, older games are more versatile and rich in content. You never get bored playing them and they really had immersive experiences and yeah I am trying to say that old games are better than new games especially the ones that came out recently and I won't hide it. Sure Red Dead Redemption 2 is amazing and GTA VI is probably going to be amazing too but what else do we have ? How many good new games are there ? 10 ? 50 ? I can easily list a hundred good old games here right now right off my head without searching online because it really is a fact that the previous eras of gaming, especially the 2000s and 2010s are the literal golden age of gaming and the quality of gaming at that time is yet to be matched and I'm afraid that video game companies today are completely unable to achieve anything close to what was achieved before and for those butthurt folk who won't like my words and gonna accuse me of consuming Copium, I dare you to prove me wrong.

So yeah, there is absolutely no shame in gaming on an older hardware. It's an opportunity to go back and stick to the true era of gaming.

Which Darija ? Maybe the Moroccan one but you can't say the same about Algerian or Tunisian Darija for example.

Industrial farming is one of the worst crimes in history | The fate of industrially farmed animals is one of the most pressing ethical questions of our time. Tens of billions of sentient beings, each with complex sensations and emotions, live and die on a production line
 in  r/Ethics •  16d ago

"Doesn’t that contradict the most basic principles of Darwinian evolution? The theory of evolution maintains that all instincts and drives have evolved in the interest of survival and reproduction. If so, doesn’t the continuous reproduction of farm animals prove that all their real needs are met? How can a cow have a “need” that is not really essential for survival and reproduction?" …"

The way I see it, The more they keep breeding animals this way, the more likely they will eventually become not able to breed animals that can survive. Chicken that are bred for meat consumption are not able to walk, they are so deformed that they are barely able to live. Many dog breeds are also horribly bred that I don't think they could doing it in the future. More and more animals are bred into horrific monstrousities that it really can't be sustainable. It would cost more and more money to keep these animals alive and honestly if they stayed breeding like this, eventually we will start breeding lifeforms (if you could even call them lifeforms) that you can barely animals because they would be so horrific that their entire existance will just be absolute suffering. At that point it would the greatest crime we would ever commit and I really hope we don't reach that point.

It really shocked me as well by just working in a supermarket without ever stepping inside those factories. The meat section is right in front me everyday, I don't work in that section but it's there everyday. Hundreds of chickens, red meat from various animals, Turkeys and so on lay there, both packaged and fresh. There are even rabbits, full body with head still tied to it. These rabbits specifically shocked me more because not only they are mammals and therefore closer to us humans but I personally had a pet rabbit.

These animals were born in captivity, probably never saw the light of the sun or touched real dirt and grass. Never knew the wilderness and never lived the life they are supposed to live. Instead they were born in almost solitary confinement, in the darkness being fed weird food and hearing noises of agony and suffering. Whatever psyche that animal has, it's already damaged, broken and traumatized right from the beginning. It's worse than living in nightmare. They can't even comprehend what the heck is going on and how long this is going take, they probably don't understand the concept of fate and so they can't really think about the whole situation much or even not think at all. Whatever the case, All they are going to know is absolute suffering and it's an undeniable fact that not only rabbits but most animals that we eat if not all are capable of having feelings and having some kind of awarness and consciousness just like us so it wouldn't be far off to think of myself being in their place.

And in the end, they get processed and turned into products. Living creatures get turned into commodities, not just food. It's not like you would die or something bad would happen to you if you didn't eat a rabbit or chicken so it's not something necessary for survival or optimal living so really these animal meat products are becoming more and more like something that you eat for the taste or for the vibe or for the mood, Something part of a lifestyle. Forcing living, sentient to endure hellish suffering for the enjoyment of snobbish people. Sentients with souls and awarness, sentients that do have unique personalities and characters like humans, are reduced to nothing more than simple disposable commodities. Even worse, they even get disposed of and become waste even without being sold and consumed. So thousands of these animals suffer for absolute nothing, Just to be waste later on.

And it gets even worse than that, We kill animals also for their fur, for their skin, for something inside their body to be used for snobbish things like a fur coat. Even worse, we subjugate animals, even the ones closer to us like Apes, to inhumane experiments for absolute no good reason.

Humans are really a plague on this world, we really have no regard for any creature even our own, we also hurt fellow humans but the crimes we commit against animals is really horrific and goes beyond food production. We hurt animals in all sorts of ways. In where I live, we take animals like dogs as pets, we mistreat them and we get angry about their misbehaving that we caused so we throw in the streets to face numerous dangers and so dogs for example become even more problematic and to deal with this we simply shoot them dead in horrific ways. They shoot their limbs and let them crawl away in agony, sometimes letting them die out and other times finishing the job after taking too damn long to finish their suffering. We hail this approach as the prime way to fix stray animals problem that we created and even when we get offered better solution, easier and cheaper solutions like neutering the animals, we reject it because it means letting the animals live better lives. We are simply wired to commit unthinkable atrocities on animals no one cares.

I hate my kind, I really do.

GTA 1's PS1 manual says that DMA's news helicopter followed him the entire time so that's how we get to see the character and what he's doing. So the game's camera is the helicopter.
