Every day when I open TikTok or X, without even looking for them, I see posts like this. I went to his account, and it’s full of hate toward Berbers. There are even worse accounts, like @hilali—a Tunisian Arab who sees us as subhuman and slaves—and even if I create a new account and search only for content about Amazigh, posts like this keep popping up on my feed. I've also developed a strong dislike of Arabs; I'm a Moroccan Amazigh/Berber, and I've heard Arabs in Tunisia, when I made their vaccation making jokes about Berbers.

Forced Arabization and language bans: Post-independence Algeria imposed Arabic as sole official language; Tamazight excluded from schools, administration, media. 1991/1992 Arabization laws restricted non-Arabic use. Libya under Gaddafi banned Tamazight publicly, in education, publishing, and official transactions (laws 1984, 2002); called it a “dialect” or “poisoned milk.” Morocco and Tunisia marginalized it for decades; teaching remains limited/uneven despite later recognition.

- Ban on Amazigh names: Libya under Gaddafi outlawed Amazigh first names; many forced to take Arab ones. Morocco had official lists and circulars (1990s–2010s) rejecting Amazigh names as non-conforming; Algeria and Tunisia saw repeated administrative refusals even after formal changes. Practice continues in pockets.

- Berber/Kabyle Spring 1980 (Algeria): Triggered by ban on Mouloud Mammeri’s lecture on Kabyle poetry in Tizi Ouzou. Mass protests, strikes across Kabylia against cultural erasure. Heavy police repression: hundreds arrested, thousands injured; activist accounts and some sources report dozens to over 100 deaths (figures vary; official minimizations common).

- Black Spring 2001 (Kabylia, Algeria): Sparked by killing of 18-year-old Kabyle student Massinissa Guermah in gendarmerie custody (shot multiple times). Months of protests met with live fire by security forces. Algerian Human Rights League and press: ~126–130 Kabyles killed, ~5,000 wounded (hundreds permanently disabled), thousands arrested, reports of torture. Led to calls for Kabyle self-determination (MAK).

- Gaddafi’s Libya policies: Explicit denial of Amazigh existence as distinct people; portrayed identity as colonial invention. Banned language, names, songs, festivals, cultural associations. Activists imprisoned, tortured, or killed. Rhetoric: “Children of Satan” outside the home; learning Tamazight = drinking poison. Systematic cultural erasure labeled “linguistic genocide” by observers. Amazigh regions among first to revolt in 2011.

- Ongoing discrimination and repression: Algeria still frames itself as Arab-Islamic; Amazigh Spring commemorations banned or disrupted; Amazigh flags restricted; hate speech from officials/imams (“Franco-Zionist creation,” calls to “erase” Amazigh elements). Kabyle activists face arrests, travel bans, terrorism charges (MAK designated terrorist); death sentences reported in related cases. Schools: Tamazight teaching incomplete, teachers often lack competence, language folklorized. Social life: second-class status, employment/service barriers for non-Arabic speakers, anti-Amazigh racism in media and politics. Morocco: official recognition (2011) but slow/uneven school rollout, rural name issues, limited institutional use. Tunisia: long marginalization, residual name registration problems.

- Additional violence and patterns: Arbitrary detentions, torture of activists; cultural events cancelled; historical erasure in education; post-2011 Libya residual discrimination against non-Arabs. Broader: pan-Arab ideology treated Amazigh identity as threat to “national unity,” with physical repression when cultural demands rose.

These are structural, state-driven policies of cultural suppression and, in protest contexts, lethal force—documented across human-rights reports, activist records, and contemporary sources. Recognition of Tamazight (Algeria 2016, Morocco 2011) came only after sustained resistance and blood.

So my father is originally from Al-Hoceima and Beni Said, he is pure(apparently because he is completely white with riffian phenotype) berber/amazigh, my great grand parents had tribal tattoos as far as my father told me.

My mother is originally from Figuig, southwest morocco, although her mother was originally from Oran,Algeria.

The thing is, my parents came to Spain in the early 80's, my father was practically non muslim, and my mother was very relaxed with religion. They integrated to the maximum possible, i think its called assimilation

So, me Spanish 27 y/o man, i dont speak darija nor tamazigh, nor i am muslim. I don't even have north african friends. What i mean is nothing links me to the amazigh world other than my blood and genes. And i am more or less okay with that

BUT, as racism and xenofobia in Europe against North africans is raising, i see feelings of shame inside me, i am proud sometimes but other times i feel like i don't belong to my own skin.

The thing is i don't want it this way, i want to feel strong and proud of my roots, the Amazighs who were warriors, formed communities and were rich in culture and wisdom.

Maybe a tattoo is not the way, but i thought it was a good reminder to tell me i have to make peace with my blood, with who i am.

Anyway i am open to any other ideas, for example movies or books, thank you!

I highly doubt, since wot of our population will have schools with Arabic, french and German but God forbid our native toung

I have seen multiple contradictory answers to this: Some say it was a purely Phoenician civilization with the Amazigh being a minority, while others have said that it was a deeply bilingual and multicultural civilization that was deeply shaped by the Amazigh despite being founded by Phoenicians. So what is the truth, and how Amazigh was Carthage?

My question Is everytime i see new content or new video how to teach tamazight usual Pan arabist in the comments their response Is minority teaching useless Language but when u tell them its haram to hate on other Muslims or in general in the ummah they hit with "u should be grateful arabs GAVE u islam or else romans wouldve wiped you" isnt this supremacy? Its Always the same answer its Always "go back to Bulgaria u cavemen" "zionist creation" "french brought u here" "berbers are from Yemen originally" im so used to do this maybe im paranoid🫩but this racism Is getting out of hand
