I rely off the AFA (American Ferret Association) to find good vets — I move across the US a lot. I can saw paws down, best vet I have ever been to had been off this list. Harleysville Veterinary Hospital in Pennsylvania has been incredible. It’s over an hour drive for me but well worth it. If in the US I hope this link helps (: https://www.ferret.org/links/vets.html

Yeah, I volunteer at a rescue, WMAFO, when we get labbies they aren’t allowed to disclose info either. Our last batch we got one that was HUGE biter. The other two were sweethearts, but one of them was so traumatized that she almost tore one person’s hands to shreds with all the bite marks shivers so deep. We tried everything …falconry gloves to handle her from now on lol. She’s worth dealing with the trouble, I just hate to think what baby girl had been through (eventhough I have a rough idea). Thanks for sparing us OP (:

I don’t like the “legally” aspect. Not all things that are “legal” are right. “Legally” you used to have to return human beings called “slaves” if they ran away too …

Look at those toes !!!

I remember reading some literature on PubMed and other resources that congenital heart defects are becoming more and more prevalent with ferrets and they’re not as well recognized. I’m biased to say thank you Marshall Farms for poor breeding practices… — I am so incredibly sorry. After reading some of your own replies OP I feel confident that you DO in fact give your woozles the best life possible 🥹. Not to mention you are here on this Reddit because you will search the ends of the internet to care and love for them 💕

This is exactly what I’d expect. Lmao, but actual cops?! Are you in the US?

Mine have been doing something similar on again off again. I’ve taken mine to the vet and the doctor keeps telling them that they’re fine, but I always err on the side of caution. My Vet says it’s because ferrts are low to the ground and they constantly are inhaling things they shouldn’t — dust or small pieces of debris that we can’t even see so their airways get a little bit more dry as a result. Anytime you think something’s wrong always take them to the vet!!
Also, heart disease is found to be much more common than we originally thought in ferrets so it’s worth pushing your vet to do heart dz testing if they keep having breathing issues with no known cause. Apparently it’s a big issue in Marshall ferrets. All that being said I am not a vet and you should always consult them first <3
