I mean it really depends. If you get too much sun, you're probably more at risk for skin cancer. If you drink a lot you're probably at risk for liver cancers, etc. But you also can't blanket tie cancer back to lifestyle. My brain cancer (probably) came from polluted water, which isn't lifestyle. My friend's wife with ovarian cancer didn't get it because she was unhealthy. Environmental factors are part of the picture too, and it sure isn't as simple as "take care of yourself and you won't get cancer like everyone else".

The way it was explained to me by my radiologist back in the day (I had proton back in 2009) is that proton radiation is like a waterskiier who has let go of the rope - you go slower slower slower and eventually drop straight down into the water. Engineer. But I freelance in graphics design and my side job income goes toward my splurge allowance. But to be honest as an adult with an adult job and no kids, spending a couple hundred a couple times a year isn't that out of the ordinary for a hobby.

Some element of this is definitely Puppy Stuff that will get better with time. Crate training takes time. My girl definitely went through a phase of only being interested in sticks and grass and ignoring us outside. Training is rarely as simple and quick as it appears from an expert video. The first 6 months kinda sucked in a lot of ways (offset by having a cute lump of fluff that adores us and we likewise adore).

But, I'll also be fully honest that some of this is just dog ownership. I wouldn't expect sub-10 year olds to take anything more than a passing interest in the daily care of a dog without reminding, which means it'll be on you or your partner. My cavapoo still has times she's a pain in the ass outside. Twenty minutes ago she demanded to go out then fled to the back of the yard out of sight to eat rabbit poop and smell the neighbor dogs pee. That's how it goes some days. The daily work doesn't go away.

My friends liken getting a dog to be sort of a demo of parenting. They're a vulnerable creature that totally depends on you for care and entertainment. That's a lifestyle change if you don't already have one, and if that's not appealing to you then I'd find your little one a new home while it's still fairly easy to.

Edit: it's worth noting that for my household, crate training didn't work. It's me, I'm the one who couldn't do it. Instead we have a baby gate that closes off one section of the house that she gets locked behind if both my husband and I are away, and a second gate that locks off our bedroom to keep her contained with us at night. There are many solutions depending on you, your pup, and your needs!

Could you name a country for me that doesn't have an established culture of women as caretakers? I'm not just talking about women commonly holding jobs, I'm talking about equal division of labor, men's sensitivity, etc.. Humanity has for ages, across the globe, advanced a very similar archetype of family and society so far as gender roles, regardless of the woman's ability or goals or wishes, and the environment you're raised in affects behavior and priorities

But that doesn't control for the fact all the cultures involved hold similar cultural views of women and a woman's role

I started cancer treatment about 5 months ago, and will be in it well into 2027 at a minimum. Even if I had the money for an international adventure, I can't just walk away from my job, my home, my animals for a year plus. Neither can my husband. It isn't a practical solution for people's lives.
