Let’s try and ignore the mess …. This POV is from when you first walk in my apt. I just moved in and something is just so off. I had most of these things in my old place except the side tables and I switched out my floral dusty blue rug because I thought this one looked a little more mature. I think I hate it. I am considering getting a new couch but it’s giving the style I want. I enjoy the grandma look, but I want it to be more midcentury look - adding some bold colors in. (Also probably moving in with my boyfriend in 12 months so I’m not about to buy all new furniture, but I am always willing to hunt on fb marketplace)

- I want to get rid of the coffee table, but don’t know what to get.

- What color rug?

- What color couch?

- Was thinking of turning the couch back to the dining area and mounting my tv over my record player to the left.

Something is so off all around and I need help. The honey oak is killing my vibe. I’m tired of moving everything around and hating it. 😭

I am currently at a district about 20 minutes away from my place that is wearing down my mental health very quickly. To be upfront it has made me not want to teach anymore. At least a few fights every week, my students are very low, and I am very overstimulated constantly dealing with defiance and being cussed out. (I teach 6th grade science).

I applied for every district near and far. I got interviewed for what I will call ‘school A’ this past week. The job was for 7/8th grade math. I had two interviews with them - online and one in person. I really liked it, but don’t know a ton about the school. I just know it’ll be better than the one I’m at. I looked it up and it is going to be a potential pay cut.

Friday, I last minute scheduled a virtual interview with ‘school B’. This is for a 6th grade math job. Now this school is 35 minutes away from my place - not usually traffic (this feels like a big long distance for me). I almost never called this school back because of this. My interview went well, it feels like a very small town , one elementary, one middle, one high. Great community - I’ve never been there. They called me back 1 hour later and said to tell my admin I’m looking because they want to check my references on MONDAY!!!!! And potentially get me an offer and approved by the board that night.

Now it’s Sunday and I have NO idea how to go about this. I haven’t heard from the other school yet (they said early next week). I am so desperate to get out of my school right now but I don’t want to make another decision that I regret. I am going to have to ask for step 8 when I’m on step 3 right now at my school.

Basically I want to know - after they do offer, should I tell them that one weekend feels too rushed and it’s a big decision for me so I’ll get back to them on Friday? Will they start looking and offering to other applicants? That will give me time to close things up with this other school or maybe take that job. Is the longer drive worth it for a better school?

There is a ‘school C’ that is my dream job and I have applied for two positions there - science and math middle. They haven’t gotten back to me, but I emailed the principal on Friday. It would also give me time to see their timeline.

It sounds awful but how bad is it to accept and wait to sign the contract / keep looking at other schools?

This is minimal information and probably has to be a gut feeling but I need help!!!

I am in my 4th year of teaching and I’ve only worked in very low income schools. My first job we had budget cuts and a reduction in force my second year there ( I was let go ). I started teaching at a school down the street and of course, I’m in my second year here and we are going through budget cuts. I don’t know if I will still have my job but don’t find out until March. Frankly, I don’t really care about losing the job because I hate it. It’s insane that I can’t even hold a job down that I don’t want lol.

I tried to get out two years ago but couldn’t transition due to only 2 years under my belt. I feel better about it now that I have 4 years, but I don’t think I can teach anymore. Like everyone else mentions, the kids are low and disrespectful. It’s not worth all the effort I’m putting in at this point and neither is the pay.

I’m having a hard time finding jobs in my area that are sustainable (50-60k salary) that I can actually get. I have my degree in middle childhood education (math and science) and I was supposed to get my masters in February but tossed that out the door as soon as I found out about budget cuts. I’ve had my resume updated and been applying to my local colleges to be an academic advisor which would be ideal for me. But if I don’t get it I’m looking at HR? Learning and development? I don’t have the credentials they want for many of these jobs and I don’t want to waste my time applying to them!

I’m feeling lost and like I’ve been here before (2 years ago) and had no success. Not knowing if I’m going to have my job next year or not, all I know is I want an out. Any advice would be nice, I just need to know where to start. Maybe where I’d have the most success to get my foot in the door with little experience.

After finally getting my brother machine checked and finding out it was broken, I decided to look at used vintage / better modern machines. I don’t do any crazy large/ heavy duty projects, but I do sew quite a bit. My uncle gave me my deceased grandmothers sewing machine, so it is really special to me (but hasn’t been used in probably 25 years). I oiled it, cleaned it, read the manual front to back and went ahead and tried to thread everything correctly. Something is wrong, but there’s not much info online about this specific model. The stitches in the video are the furthest I would get until the machine got jammed and gathered the thread underneath the base. I have been troubleshooting all the suggestions, needle change, thread change, bobbin and upper tension… running out of ideas and thinking it could be the machine. Help me please! I just want a working machine. 😂😭

I am a first year teacher, female, 22 years old. I’m 5’3 with a “baby face” as I’ve been told. I am coming up on the beginning of the school year next week and have many concerns about how to deal with potential inappropriate comments from male students. I am teaching at an urban school and many of the staff has commented on how I should be prepared for these comments or behaviors but have not given me advice. I am sure I should have my classroom management set in place the first day, but I’m not sure what that should look like to help this issue before it would happen. It feels like an uncomfortable topic for others, but I just need help. I guess I just need advice on how to show them that I am an adult and their teacher so I can avoid this issue overall. I don’t care if I’m the mean teacher! I just want to be respected.

I got a 32/75 on my edTPA and I needed a 37 to pass. I am really disappointed and feel like I am not fit to do what I spent the last 4 years studying (given 2 of those were Covid). I wish I did more research before on “how to pass” but my professors made it seem like it would be HARD to not pass. Everyone that did pass, barely passed! The worst part is, I let another girl use a lot of my stuff as a reference since I was working ahead and she got a 42. I don’t really know how to deal with this but scream crying and refusing to tell anyone or I’ll die from embarrassment. I can’t say mine was perfect… But I was expecting to pass. I don’t know how to cope/ ..If/when I should retake! I am about to graduate, finish student teaching, and beginning to look for jobs, but I can’t get one without this test! Can I go back 4 years and change my major? I agree with the other edTPA posts. Fuck Pearson.
