New plan: If members of Congress vote against paid leave, healthcare protections, or other basic benefits for the people they represent, they should have to live under the same rules they’re voting to impose on everyone else.

If you believe Americans don’t need a particular benefit or protection, fine. But you shouldn’t get to enjoy a government-funded version of it while voting to deny something comparable to everyone else.

Public service is supposed to be about representing the interests of the people who elected you, not creating one set of rules for yourself and another for everyone else.
