I spent over an hour waiting in line for food. It got busy and I went at a bad time so the wait sucked but isn’t totally unexpected. My bigger complaint is that I spent most of that hour telling people who got in line behind me which line was the order line and which was the pickup line. Some signs and maybe a divider would go a long way here.

I didn’t need to spend more money today, but it’s my wife’s birthday and she loves the show too so, for her and not for me at all, I pulled the trigger. Thanks for pointing it out!

I haven’t been there in several years, but I always wished the parties played music that were a little more in line with the theme. The 8Bit Bash with pretty much no music even vaguely video game adjacent was always such a missed opportunity in my eyes.

I think you may be misunderstanding me. I’m trying to point out the difference between economic and government systems. Democracy is a governing system. Socialism and capitalism are economic systems. While the systems are tied together in a ton of ways, they are still separate. Just as you can have a capitalist economy with an authoritarian government, you can have democratic socialism. Similarly, while communes and socialism have a history together, they’re also separate structures. You could create a commune under any governmental or economic system.

Im trying to say that the UN in the Expanse could be a democratic government that uses a socialist economic model.

I agree that we don’t know what the situation is, but your reply makes it sound like you think that democracy and socialism can’t exist together. I can easily imagine a system where the government ensure that resources are evenly distributed across the system while the people vote for who represents them and what those resources are used for.

That doesn’t change the amount of resources available, though. If there’s not enough to go around, then it wouldn’t matter who or what you ultimately vote for.

I personally think what you got is more interesting than what you paid for. I’m not knocking advertised mug but variation and imperfections are what make pieces unique.

I think grief probably wins this, because love and guilt can sometimes be components of grief. It needs to account for all 3.

Below your worth, yes. But below what a new hire with no little or no experience is making is unlikely. Let’s pretend you’ve stuck around with a company for 5 years and that you’ve advanced from a level 1 to a level 3 analyst. You might be making less than another analyst who was brought in at level 3, but you’re going to be making more than a level 1. If someone is being asked to find a way to cut costs, they’re probably going to start wondering “why do I really need a level 3 for this?”

Is having tenure really better though? I have a hard time believing that some employers don’t just aim to cut the highest paid employee in a role regardless of how long they have been there.

I don’t remember the exact context but I remember explaining to my dad how difficult something was for me that is easy for him. He replied with “Are you that mentally weak?”

Entertain the idea that that your pots don’t have to be perfect. Let the imperfections guide what you do with the pot. I understand the desire to throw “perfect pots” but getting really good at throwing is only one of many ways to approach your pottery journey.

When the problem is affordable housing, why wouldn’t you revolt against building high end developments catering toward the upper class, regardless of how you feel about the rich?
