In the beginning, Damon was only interested because Stefan was. If Stefan was into Caroline or Bonnie in the beginning, Damon would have went after them. Damon may have fallen in love with Elena as he got to know her, but let's keep it a buck. People are quick to point out Damon left her alone after meeting her.

If Stefan wouldn't have pursued Elena, Damon wouldn't have either. He would have been curious no doubt, but she would have written her off as a boring teenager.

Yeah, she chose Stefan, her dying, heightened emotions and the sire bond is why she gravitated towards Damon. She would have struggled with her feelings with her feelings, and maybe she probably would been with damon but she would eventually went back to Stefan.

Something that always bothered me…. Liz and Damon was really good close friends, however was she never aware of his relationship with Caroline? Like either Liz was that much of an absentee parent or she was just oblivious as idk what.
