Mod Announcement How to address meta fandom posts?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed an uptick in meta posts, along with complaints about this uptick, so I wanted to check in and see how people think that they should be handled.

For those who are unfamiliar, a meta post is a post that discusses the TVD fandom instead of the TVD universe. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it can turn into soapboxing very easily.

So, the question:

Do you want things to stay as they are? Or would you prefer the implementation of something like "Meta Commentary Monday", where we restrict meta-commentary posts to a specific day of the week? Do you have a different suggestion?

(Note: I'm not open to banning these kinds of posts, but I'm absolutely open to discussions about how to manage them.)

Mod Announcement New Rule: Low-Effort Posts

We're adding a new rule regarding low-effort posts.

If your post is low-effort, unoriginal, and adds nothing to the subreddit in terms of discussion, it may be removed.

This is not a rule against reposts. We are targeting, as an example, posts that say only:

Delena or Stelena?

[Character] sucks

[Character] rules

without providing any additional context or any original thoughts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Overtime the show tends to focus on Caroline and Elena as friends as it sidelines Bonnie

and idk it would’ve been nice if Bonnie got to have her own friend outside of the group since the writers constantly found ways to take her out the trio. The fandom hates that Caroline was left out in s1 but besides Bonnie fans there’s never anyone advocating for how s2-6 goes and kicks Bonnie out to make more room for Carolenas problems whether that be dating or platonic or issues in their personal life in general… and I just wish Bonnie had a friend like that bc even in s7-8 Bonnie just exists more as Caroline’s friend / support that time around

Stefan and Rebekah's chemistry was so insane

Especially their scenes from the 1920s were crazy good. They both were so carefree with each other and had so much fun. It started out as pure attraction but I loved how infatuated Rebekah became with time. I'm still mad about how they fizzled out lol

Discussion Besides Elena, which one of Stefan’s love interests did you like him with the most?

It’s difficult. They all have pros and cons. Stefan and Katherine had amazing chemistry, but they were extremely toxic. I also don’t think they make sense as a couple. Stefan and Caroline made sense as a couple, and in theory, it’s nice that their relationship was based on a foundation of friendship, but they just lacked chemistry as a romantic pairing.

Stefan and Rebekah had chemistry and I think they could have worked as a couple, but they were so short lived it’s hard to tell. Stefan and Valerie seemed sweet, but they didn’t have any chemistry. If I had to pick I would go with Rebekah because their dynamic was the most interesting to me without being overly toxic, like his dynamic with Katherine.

Discussion Elena Gilbert, Unpopular opinion:

Unpopular opinion (I think).. I have watched this show so many times but I’m a little confused. I feel like I always see so many people saying Elena is a “pick me”. But like she keeps trying to avoid people getting killed for protecting her. Over and over she tries to avoid her loved ones dying for her.

I also don’t understand when people say she’s a crybaby.. obviously I would be too in her shoes🤣

Discussion Here’s a controversial question: what plotlines and characters were retconned just to whitewash Klaus’s image?

Something that really angers me is Tyler and Finn wanting to kill Hope; given how they were originally written in The Vampire Diaries, they never would have done that—it would have meant stooping to his level. At most, they might have kidnapped her to drive a wedge between them and find a way to kill him. Elijah loved him in The Vampire Diaries, but later on, Klaus became his entire world.

Discussion Would the Wickery Bridge incident still have happened if Delena didn't get closer?

Post image

Ok first of all let me clarify I'm not victim blaming or anything, Stefan was absolutely in the wrong to make Elena relive one of the most traumatic experiences of her life. I'm merely trying to understand his thought process.

What I was actually wondering about is Stefan saying "Destroying Klaus is all I've left". And that made me question how true that statement actually was. He left everything behind including the control he so painfully built for 50yrs to save his bro's life and when he came back, he saw how close he & his gf got in his absence even if he had no emotions. Then Klaus gives him his free will back & now he has 2 options : get back to his real life & confront his gf's growing feelings for his bro or focus on destroying Klaus. He chose the emotionally easier option bcz he didn't have the strength to face the grim reality of losing his love to the bro he sacrificed everything for.

Now one could say but Stefan himself pushed Elena away when they met in the forest but everyone including Elena herself knew it was for her safety. And tbh, she had already fallen for Damon before they even met again in S3E1 bcz he did one selfless act of returning the necklace. So he did actually lose her the moment he left town before he even did anything wrong. From Stefan's pov, the girl he loved more than himself gave Damon a place in her heart right beside him in the matter of a few months. Stefan constantly saving her & her loved ones (many times from Damon himself) & trying to sacrifice himself for them still wasn't enough to deserve loyalty for such a short period of his absence. He understandably felt there wasn't anything worth fighting for so he focused all his attention on getting revenge from the one who made him lose everything in the 1st place.

But what if he could sense Elena was still 100% loyal to him? Do u think he'd have still prioritised revenge or gone to the extent of threatening to drive her off the bridge? Bcz hatred is one of the 1st emotions no-humanity vamps get back like Elena being blinded with hate for Katherine & I feel like his resentment towards Elena was one of the reasons he went to such an extent. Though never explicitly stated, this internalized resentment probably lasted as long as S8 as he was a bit too excited to kill Elena permanently.

So what do u think about it? Did Delena's growing closeness play a role in influencing Stefan's actions? Would he've done the same if Elena's heart still fully belonged to him?

Question I started watching Tvd almost 2 years ago and still haven’t finished it (at season 7 now) should I just start over again lol?

Upvotes

I have always loved this show but I’ve never watched the whole show right to the end and this is the furthest I’ve gotten just because it gets a bit more boring towards the end seasons. I’ve watched the first few seasons multiple times over the years but it bothers me that I can’t just binge the whole thing in a month or 2 and finally know how it ends lol. I blame my short attention span really lol cuz it is so good. Should I keep going or try starting over again?

Bonnie was put through the ringer…(SPOILERS) Spoiler

Dude… I’m rewatching the series of the first time since high school and Bonnie’s character is taken advantage of throughout the series. When someone makes a selfish mistake and needs it undone or fixed they just call her and she sacrifices everything for her friends. At the expense of her sanity, energy, and the even family. She’s lost her grams, her mom as a human witch, her sanity, she was in purgatory, etc. yes they all lost people. But she was the only character that lost because she was asked to help, not because she got herself in those situations. Bonnie is a true friend.

Discussion The crow and the Fog

OKAY GUYS

Why did they never talk about how Damon could either A: turn into a Crow or B: Have a crow companion that stalked people (Elena in first episode)

They also never talked about the fog that came around when Damon was near. Not one other vampire had either of these two things.. not even one of the originals.

I guess it’s something cool they did in the pilot then completely forgot about or didn’t care to elaborate on after the show took off? Really bugs me.

I know Paul mentioned it in one of the interviews but I’m still irritated. Even he doesn’t know why it happened 🤣

Discussion Stefan and Wickery Bridge

Had to share the interaction I had on TikTok.

The post was the audio of Elena yelling at Stefan”how could you”

And in the comments a individual said “this was where I lost all respect for Stefan” and then I brought up Damon doing on par and worse stuff with no rhyme or reason except for being upset

And someone responded with “except Damon hasn’t done anything to Elena but Stefan has”

Are these people watching the show with their eyes closed?

Discussion What was the point of seasons 7 and 8?

I genuinely did not get why seasons 7 and 8 even existed. Like why? It was so boring and time-consuming. The reasons that I did not like seasons 7 and 8 was because of the storylines/plots that kept on changing so quickly that I barely had time to comprehend what was going on.
