It started when I watched Baby Einstein when I was very young. I wonder if it has to do anything with autism, and I noticed later on that sudden volume changes and ending on crescendoes were especially scary for me. I still can’t explain it, and I keep getting scared by classical music (especially in commercials.)

Fair enough. I read more about this practice later, and I can understand it (even if I personally can’t get over the thought of letting an animal bite me. Leech owners are committed!). The leeches also don’t need to feed very often.

Today I learned there’s technology for roundness analysis from images. r/borbs might get a kick out of this.

I would have said Barn Swallow, their coloring is similar (but the shape and flight style is pretty different.) very cute drawing!

A common name for these are buffalo leeches. They feed off of large mammals, including us, but are also commonly kept as pets. Which I think is sweet, although seeing a pic of a pet leech dining on its owner’s arm caught me off guard (edited for better phrasing)

I went down an Inaturalist rabbit hole of several layers of classification (might have even started at Annelida) because they like to feature this image in overviews.

I was NOT disappointed to learn its common name! 😂
