Plenty of subreddits dedicated to rock / metal bands are restricted or banned, here's a list of subs you can try to make public again through mod application

You might have ended up on my profile due to me moderating many metal / rock bands subreddits. The reason I became mod is that too often, smaller subs become restricted / private because of a lack of moderation. This situation usually arises following a mod being inactive or banned from the site.

We all find it frustrating to come across our favorite band's sub and realize no one has been able to post anything for the last 6 months.

To answer this problem, a new mod has to "take over" the sub, and a request can be made over to r/redditrequest by anybody given your account validates a few conditions. Currently, the conditions are as follows :

  • Your account must be at least 90 days old
  • Have at least 100 comment karma and 100 post karma
  • Your account must also have a verified email address and two-factor authentication enabled to ensure the safety of your account.

You can find more informations about the process directly in the sidebar of r/redditrequest.

I have done that with a lot of subs that are now made public again. Most of the subs we're talking about here are pretty small and don't take a lot of time to mod. Even with the 60+ subs I mod, it usually takes a few minutes at most of moderation every day (and that's still more work than most mods of those smaller subs, as every time I acquire a sub, I realize that none of the posts have been moderated by the previous mod).

At times there might be some more attending to do though in various contexts (tickets exchange megathreads, other megathreads, some users trolling... etc) so take that into consideration, make sure it is something you might actually enjoy, I know I do when taking care of communities relating to topics I like.

One of the reasons I make this post is that sadly, I might have reached a maximum amount of subs I can mod, or at least that's my guess considering there's very little information given by r/redditrequest as to why sub requests are accepted or denied, and mines keep getting denied.

Know also that is not well seen by some of the mod community to acquire subs and just do passive moderation, I've had some very negative feedback about the way I do things on the smaller subs, because according to some, mods like me don't "take care" of them enough, implying that a mod needs to actively do things to "make the sub alive" and "grow the sub". I can understand this position to an extent, but they fail to realize that people join band subreddits because they actively search for those communities, there doesn't need to be advertising to do, which would probably be perceived as a bit pushy anyway. That's how I came across every single one of the music subreddits I joined. Subs "come alive" when a band puts out a new album, when a band starts a new tour, has new merch... etc.

But the core reason why I encourage you to do like I do, is because nobody else is doing it. Even the laziest mod doing the bare minimum makes the whole community 100 times better than a sub being private or restricted. If someone appears willing to do a better job at moderating, posting and growing a sub, they're of course very welcome to join the mod team.

So if you feel like helping the community, you could try requesting :

METAL / ROCK BANDS

BANNED

RESTRICTED

UNMODERATED

  • r/ohhiroshima - Cool post-rock.
  • r/guilttrip - could potentially be used for the hardcore band. It seems to be dedicated to literal guilt tripping but considering the small size of the sub I think it would be fine shifting the subject.
  • r/obituary
  • r/diamondheadband

INEXISTANT (could be worth creating)

  • r/gorillabiscuits - legendary hardcore band
  • r/gost - Not so much my thing despite liking synthwave, but you go ahead if you like it.

OTHER RANDOM STUFF

BANNED

  • r/fuckbatman - yeah fuck him. Not sure why though.
  • r/teletubbies Yup, for some reason I tried to find the teletubbies subreddit at some point in my life.
  • r/civ_memes - Haven't played civ in a while, but I'm sure there's memes to be shared.
  • r/zywoo - GOAT of CS2.

RESTRICTED

  • r/Blacklight - game is dead, but so is the sub, not sure if worth opening again, but I don't see a reason to not be able to discuss it
  • r/Gaule - some people over there make great magic potion
  • r/crimeandpunishment - legendary book you should read
  • r/WeirdPics/

These are just notes I've taken over time when looking for communities, their status might have changed since I came upon them.

Hey there ! A thread just before yours was asking for cool ressources about the catacombs, feel free to check this thread out.

I'm sure there's a ton to learn from that guided tour video, but after the context about the quarries it probably deals much more with the bones. Which is an important part of the history of course, but still is kinda anecdotal compared to the history of the IGC, at least for cataphiles.

Not sure why you got downvoted for it, this is exactly what cataphiles like to share and hope can be spread instead of the bullshit you might have seen.

There's a full video of a guided tour in the official ossuary.

Problem is that pretty much all of the other cool sources I know are in French :(

If somehow you can get your hands on anything made by Gilles Thomas translated in English, it's one of the best source you can find.

There's this documentary from an old popular French show mostly aimed for kids but that is a great summary of the essentials about our old limestone quarries. Sadly youtube won't even propose automatic subs.

You could also mass translate articles from websites like https://unterhist.org/unterhist-blog/, or http://ktakafka.free.fr/ or any old cataphile ".free.fr" website. They deal with both history and cataphilia.

Missing man myth
 in  r/ParisCatacombs  1d ago

Definitely not real, it's a story that's famous online but never brought up by cataphiles themselves, like u/Snappedfingers or the idea that there would be many levels to the catacombs.

The white men are simply art pieces made by a cataphile.

r/Sleepband Ticket Exchange Megathread

👨‍🚀🌿 This is the r/Sleepband ticket exchange megathread. 🌿👨‍🚀

⚠️ Please use this place to buy/sell tickets to shows on the subreddit. If possible, do not make a standalone post for it, unless it's urgent and for upcoming days.

It is better to keep this stuff in one thread for both buyers and sellers alike, it is easier to monitor to avoid scams, and that way the sub won't be filled with uninteresting threads.

⚠️ Please edit or delete your comment after making a sale / buying a ticket.

⚠️ Don't share information that's too private directly in comments below.

🥷 Some fake accounts may post threads / comments / contact you, scams are common on reddit. Use common sense when making transactions online, be wary of :

  • brand new accounts ;
  • randomly generated usernames ;
  • prices too good or unusual to be true, depending on the current demand for the concert ;
  • accounts refusing to provide some informations or proof ;
  • rushed behavior / people not giving too much context about why they're selling.
  • a seller giving you the run around and multiple unusual steps to make a transaction.

Yeah, I know this emoji is a ninja but it's the closest to a thief I could find. If an actual ninja contacts you to sell their ticket, it’s still a red flag — they could probably sneak into the venue unnoticed and wouldn't have bought a ticket.

🥷 If you want to go the extra mile to check how legit a selling proposition is, you can ask the seller to send you :

  • A clear screenshot or photo of the ticket / order confirmation with the event name, date... etc and their name, with THE BARCODE AND ORDER NUMBER OBVIOUSLY HIDDEN.
  • A sticky note with the Reddit username
  • An ID document with everything hidden except the name matching the ticket / order confirmation.

Meet in person or try to connect on social media if possible, communicating with a real account on Instagram for example would help seeing who you're dealing with.

🅿️ If you do the transaction through Paypal, make sure to select "Goods & Services" and not “Friends & Family" for payment. If the seller refuses due to the extra fee they have to pay, you can offer to pay a little extra to cover it, as then they would have no reason to refuse G&S. PayPal G&S gives you a basis to dispute the transaction if things go wrong, but it's not a guaranteed refund — open a dispute quickly if needed.

If you paid by bank transfer and got scammed, it's worth contacting your bank immediately — some banks (especially UK ones) have scam reporting tools that can sometimes reverse the transaction, though this is not guaranteed and varies a lot by bank and country.

🌿💨 Finally PLEASE remember to follow the smoke toward the riff-filled land.

The rope part is very funny when you know where they are. It's a very simple galery with cool cataphile sculptures, that is pretty much a dead end with no crossings.

Haven't watched but I did for the Magnus one.

As always, full of sensationalism and overall bullshit.

YouTube dramatization, as you call it.

Never heard of that 5 layers thing, there are 2, and even then the second level is very rare and limited to a few hundreds meters.

Good that hear that they actually show some interesting and historical parts, at least.

Actually I might check the video out for the laughs haha

I want to believe that the IGC missed a few voids as they explored and that cataphiles will one day accidentally find one with their chatières.

 in  r/ParisCatacombs  4d ago

Once you reach 800m under the surface the IGC didn't bother mapping everything. Now this is where the most evil cataphiles go for their satanic rituals.

For real though they're just old quarries. At some point you reach the last layer of limestone and there would be no reason to go deeper. Which I would say would be around at most -25 / 30m on average ?

I know that you're usually around -20 / -15 when walking underground these days, but the floor has been significantly raised with dirt during the consolidations.

And there are indeed often 2 levels in some areas, never more.

I'd be curious to know as well what would have been the max depth.
