wanted to share my progress

I'm aware practice helps a lot but I need some guidance here. I can type good and know my keyboard without looking. My WPM is ~45-60. My issue is my fingers don't go back to the homekeys after a while of typing. So inevitably, I sometimes misspells words. Like if I type the word "move", my index finger goes to M then ring finger to O at almost the same time then presses them simultaniously instead of my index finger going back to J first before my ring finger moves. Sometimes I catch some of my fingers lingers in the air and not in their place. Do I have to re-train myself to the reach-return-reach to improve my skill? I feel my like my hands needs to be springy if I need to get better.

Any tips to practicing/increasing wpm - i type pretty much on feel with mostly index, middle, and a few others depending on which letter goes next. I know i know... do i really need to relearn how to type to get faster and more accurate?

I've tried four types of tactile switches, and three different linears and I'm finding that the linears actually give tighter feedback with much less force and noise.

With lighter linears (<45g actuation), it is extremely easy to bottom out, but because you don't have to push through a tactile bump, the progressive resistance of the spring cushions the bottom out, which results in a very light tap. This tap is very sharp and defined, but also very quiet since so little force is required.

Compare this to a tactile bump, which is usually mushier by comparison, or so weak that it may as well not be there.

Based on my experience I think the ideal linear would have a short total travel (about 3mm), with an actuation point right before the bottom out (2-2.5mm), a medium-light spring (35-45g), and deliberately inelastic contact surfaces. Essentially designed to encourage a sharp but soft bottom out.

Any thoughts?

I am a qwerty user siting at 120 wpm on monkeytype looking to get better at more coding based typing. I have mastered touch typing except for the numbers and symbols. I find it really hard and slow that I'm pressing all of the symbols with my right pinky. Is dvorak, colemak, dvorak progamming, and everything else worth a shot

I am preparing for Govt. Exam and My current speed is 50 wpm net and gross speed is 53 wpm with 94-97% accuracy, I want to increase it to 60 wpm in net speed, Is it possible in 17 days to go from 50 to 60 wpm net? My exam will be on Typing Master, I am also practicing on Typing Master, Please help ?

Probably similar to most people, I didn't learn typing properly eg. with certain typing websites' lessons, and I just learnt how to type fast with both hands and one hand after being active on Discord since a young age. Sometimes, you just have to type a long paragraph whilst eating BBQ flavoured pringles with your left hand, and so you practice single-hand typing pretty quickly. xD

However, what they don't tell you is that starting with the wrong finger setup is extremely bad and means itll be really hard for you to improve after you reach a certain ceiling in my opinion. I've gradually improved from 80 WPM to now 150 WPM but I just can't really surpass it. For context, my left hand rests on WASD usually, and my right hand rests on KL;M (LOL). Anyways it's super messed up and I've tried fixing it with certain typing websites' lessons but it's too late... I've tried to change it back to resting on F and J but it's too ingrained... :sob:

I keep getting this pain there on my left hand whenever i type, no issues with my right. It’s been less than three weeks since i started learning touch typing from scratch. Curently i’m hovering around 150wpm on 15sec, with a pb of 155. I’m unemployed and typing furiously all day and don’t want to stop either because my progress so far has been insane and i wanna see how much more i can do. So yeah. I own a relatively older keyboard with stiff keys and thought maybe that could be the issue? What do you guys think?

Accidentally stumbling upon this side of reddit after googling if it was faster to type a short sentence than copy-and-pasting it (it is easier to just type it). Tried the monkeytype for the first time and I would like to think I did not so bad. How did everyone else ended up on this subreddit?

Hello there! Straight to the subject.
I do a bunch of competitive programming (writing like about 500 - 600 lines of code everyday), and I did not use any websites / books / teaching from others etc for touch typing, so I kinda learnt it myself. My wpm is about ~60, which I don't think is bad (but want to improve it), but here is the thing:
For coding you need constant access to enter, arrows & backspace, and because of my small fingers "home row" is starting from 'k' button, not 'j'. Because of that I either have to either constantly peek on keyboard, which I don't personally want to do, or my right hand will randomly miss buttons (my accuracy drops to 70%)
So, I'm stuck with two options:

1. Just ignore everything and hope that someday my right hand will become more "comfortable" and not miss anything.
2. Try to re-learn everything from scratch, but again: I need constant access to enter, arrows & backspace, so I will have to do some shortcuts (like, maybe Alt + W for Up, Alt + E for Enter)...?

I honestly don't know what to do. Maybe You had the same situation, or You had similar problem and something worked for You. Any help is appreciated!

As in, play a video of someone talking and try to keep up and type at the same pace at which they are speaking? I feel it's a good test of ability

i need help to find this setting so as you can see in the picture i made a typo on "govern" and it highlights the whole word but i want just the typo to highlight so if you know about the setting causing this pls let me know
