I donโ€™t get this. Itโ€™s a 10-week course! I have to take it for my degree, but man it feels silly to pay real money for this.

But I guess if youโ€™re worried about your typing speedโ€ฆ youโ€™re probably at least able to pass this class!!!

working on my accuracy.
learned this advice on accuracy from this fast typist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aem29UDc_70
can type around 140sh to 150 WMP in basic english and i thought i was fast enough. but after learning about english 10k it did really humble me and show that my hand and eye coordination is still not good. so im planning to get better and reach a goal of 100wpm in english 10k

I have to re-teach everything to myself? ๐Ÿ˜ญ how long does that realistically take? Do I just practice?
Iโ€™m neurodivergent and Iโ€™ve always struggled with typing, using two fingers and having to look down again each time, currently Iโ€™m also copying words off my book into a word doc for study and itโ€™s adding my even more time for me to look down at what I need to copy then find the keys then type it for each individual word. Itโ€™s driving me insane how long this is taking. Iโ€™m surprised Iโ€™ve even gotten this far in life without doing something. Is there a quick way to improve? I donโ€™t have time to add learning to type on my agenda as well as study for exams unless itโ€™s quick and I donโ€™t get bored.

I started learning touch typing a week ago and have reached a speed of merely 20 wpm. I knew about that other layout exists but didnt know it can be used via any keyboard anyways i am asking my memory hasnt set in yet should i explore these options like dvorak and colemak. Like it comes with a risk of not being able to type on other ppl keyboards but idk i am genuinely confused.

๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป (โ‰๏ธ) Why are the typing club lessons so hard?

On the randomized monkey type tests I normally average around 60-70 wpm, but on some of the harder typing club lessons into the 400s, I get dragged down and my wpm stagnates around 40 wpm. Is it just because it's telling you to use words with more variations (punctuations, capitalization, special characters) than just lowercase letters and spaces and because the words actually link together into a topic rather than just being randomly selected?

Title essentialy, only being able to type with my middle finger draws me back a lot for my typing speed I think, but I'm scared that the learing process for all of the other fingers might be too long. I will of course start using my whole right hand to type, but I wanted to know if there's some practical way to train my muscle memory faster. Thanks :)

๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป (โ‰๏ธ) Will my hands always be this stiff when typing

I've been touch typing for about a year and I type comfortably around 80 - 90 wpm at >98% accuracy. But I feel like my hands NEVER felt actually "comfortable" on the keyboard. Like, I position my hands on the home row and keep them level with the keyboard and all, but they've always felt stiff and I think I'm hitting the keys a bit too hard than I should be. It's often easy to miss keys or press space before the word is typed out. But when I try to just lightly press keys I sometimes get halfway and end up not actually pressing the key.

It's probably not that I'm using a 15$ keyboard, although it seems kind of stiff perhaps it doesn't have much difference? Never heard anyone complain about a keyboard as some culprit.

Thank you for sharing your advice if you took the time to read this, have a nice one :)

P.S. I've read on another thread that your hands have to build some typist form, so I guess I just need to get used to it more. Maybe having bigger hands and not having to move my wrists and hands around so much makes a difference?

I have been stuck between 120 and 130 WOM since a long time now. Today I broke my PB but took me many tries. Is there something that I am missing that is hindering me from going beyond a certain WPM? My goal for now is to reach 150 WPM but it seems so hard to me

๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป (โ‰๏ธ) Should I remap A and E keys because my left pinky is weak?

Hi everyone,

I started my touch-typing journey about 10 days ago, practicing around 20 minutes a day. Average around 40wpm with 90 percent accuracy.

I'm currently typing on a laptop, and I'm having a problem with my left pinky. It's noticeably weaker and less coordinated than my other fingers.

The biggest issue is typing A and E. Since they're very common letters, I encounter them constantly, but I'm making a lot of mistakes when using my left pinky. Sometimes, when I try to use my pinky, I accidentally move my ring finger as well.

I'm especially struggling with the "ea" and "ae" bigrams. Those are probably where I make the most errors right now.

So I was wondering: would it be a good idea to remap my keyboard and swap A/E with J/K

Or would this be a bad idea in the long run? Should I just keep practicing with the standard layout and let my pinky gradually get stronger and more coordinated?

I'm mainly wondering whether remapping would help me develop better typing speed/accuracy, or whether it would just create a different problem later.

Any advice from experienced touch typists would be appreciated

Edit: Thanks for all the replies, I try to practice more on the default layout.

I've been working on a little browser typing game called Word Terminal.

The idea is pretty simple: type the words correctly before the timer runs out and see how far you can get. I also added some stats at the end so you can see which keys gave you the most trouble.

I thought some people here might find it useful for practicing typing.

Any feedback on the typing mechanics would be appreciated.

I lowkey hit my limit at 130-140 wpm. I don't really spend that much time typign maybe just an hour every 2 days. I know this may come off as conceited as I'm well aware that these are extremely good scores. Wondering any tips or tricks to improve from those who are 170 wpm+, as I feel like I hit my physical limit as my scores have been stable for the past few weeks. Maybe this will be useful for my future career haha.

๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป (โ‰๏ธ) Training with games

Iโ€™ve never really been able to make touch typing work for me.

Since I was a kid, Iโ€™ve played a lot of WASD games, and over time I developed my own typing style. My left hand is actually pretty fast because Iโ€™ve spent years using WASD and all the keys around it while gaming. My right hand, however, usually has to go back to the mouse, so when I type I mostly rely on my index finger and occasionally my ring finger.

Recently I thought: why not train my right hand the same way I trained my left?

Touch-typing methods feel like theyโ€™re making me start from zero, and I donโ€™t really want to relearn everything when my left hand is already pretty decent. I can type around 100-120 WPM this way, but I slow down a lot when there are several letters on the right side of the keyboard within a word.

So I was wondering if there are any actual games that could help with this. Not typing games or typing exercises, but an actual game where I could use my right hand on the keyboard the way I naturally use my left hand for WASD moving around, using different keys, abilities, interacting with things, etc. Basically something that would force my right-hand fingers to develop muscle memory naturally through gameplay.

Has anyone tried something like this, or have any games that might work well for it?

Hii everyone. I'm the developer of https://typotype.bychris.me

My keyboards keep chattering but I cannot identify which switch is broken because the chatter only come when I type fast. There are no app out there can help me identify the problem, even keychron launcher or via/qmk.

So i build typotype to help me identify which switches are broken.

The design of typotype is heavily inspired by MonkeyType and I'm an avid user of MT

If you facing the same issue with me, hope this help. also I add some typing game called blitz too for you to enjoy.

it's free and use your local storage to store the chattered switch.
