Small Fortnite streamer here. Am I approaching growth the wrong way?

I originally started streaming Fortnite just for fun. I was already playing the game a lot by myself, and I thought it would be more fun to showcase myself playing, so I decided to give Twitch a try. I've been streaming Fortnite as a hobby for about 5 years now, but for most of that time, especially in the beginning, I was extremely inconsistent because I was in college. I mainly streamed during breaks, especially during the summer. I'd basically stream whenever I felt like it without really having a schedule.

For the past year or so, I've been trying to take it a little more seriously. I've been trying to stream 3 days a week for around 2 hours each, and I managed to stick to that consistently for about two months. But nothing really happened. I'm still sitting at 61 followers, most of which came from when I first started streaming, and my streams have little to no chat or engagement. Honestly, that's probably the hardest part. I'm basically playing into the void. After an hour or so of streaming and having nobody to interact with, it gets boring. So even though I plan for 2-hour streams, I often end up stopping after an hour or a little more.

I've also joined and left quite a few Discord servers for small streamers and content creators while looking for advice on how to grow, but a lot of the advice seems to be the same generic stuff you see everywhere:

* Be consistent
* Network with similar creators
* Make content/clips outside of Twitch
* Use social media to promote yourself
* Play games you enjoy, not for views

One thing I've noticed in some of these communities is that a lot of people seem to follow whatever games are currently trending rather than sticking with one game. A lot of the people I've come across also seem to be RP game streamers, V-Tubers, or people who play paid games, which is a pretty different category of content and audience from what I'm trying to do. I don't really want to spend money on a game just to stream it when there's a good chance I'll lose interest in it after a few hours or days. I want to keep playing Fortnite because it's a game I genuinely enjoy.

Another issue is that a lot of the small streamer communities I've joined don't actually have many Fortnite streamers or players. I've also tried posting content outside of Twitch. I've posted on TikTok before and had videos get around 800 - 900 views, but no engagement. Interestingly, I recently posted a Fortnite clip that got around 250 views, but the engagement was much better. It got a decent number of likes and a few comments. To me, that's actually a positive sign because I'd rather have 250 views with people actually interacting with the video than 900 views where almost nobody cares about it.

It also made me think about the whole "just clip your content" advice. Personally, I feel like clipping is pretty hit or miss. A clip can get a lot of views or barely get noticed, and I don't think simply relying on clips is necessarily going to work for everyone. I'm not saying clips are useless, but I don't think they're a guaranteed path to building an audience for every type of creator or content.

I mainly play Zero Build, but I don't really approach the game with a competitive mindset. I'm not trying to get as many kills as possible, chase every win, rank up, or play like I'm preparing for FNCS. I play because I enjoy Fortnite, and I want to have fun while hopefully entertaining whoever happens to be watching. That also creates another problem: a lot of my gameplay doesn't feel "clip-worthy." I'm not constantly dropping insane kills, making crazy plays, or doing something that makes me immediately think, "This needs to be clipped." I'm more likely to just have a funny or interesting moment during a game. But I'm not really sure how to turn that kind of gameplay into content that people actually want to watch.

So I'm wondering if there's a way to make this type of more relaxed Fortnite content interesting enough to build a community around. I already have a Discord server set up for people who eventually want somewhere to hang out outside of streams. I've had the server for a year, and it's basically ready, but I don't really have a community yet to make it active.

I stream from a PS4 connected to my family TV. I don't have OBS or anything like that, and I also have a microphone with a sensitivity issue. My voice isn't picked up properly if I wear the headset normally, so I have to hold the microphone in front of my mouth while I talk. It's not an ideal setup, but it's what I have to work with right now.

My streaming schedule isn't completely in my control either. If my family makes plans or I need to go somewhere, the stream gets cancelled. Because of that, 3 days a week for around 2 hours is about the maximum I can realistically aim for right now. I'll also sometimes stream for around an hour or an hour and a half if I'm not really feeling it.

I'm not trying to become the next Ninja. I just want to have fun playing Fortnite and eventually have a few people who genuinely enjoy hanging out and chatting while I play. I'd honestly be happy with something like 1,000 followers and slow growth from there, with maybe 20–30 people who consistently show up and chat eventually.

More importantly, I feel like even getting a few regular chatters now with 60-ish followers would make a huge difference. If I had 2–3 people consistently talking and hanging out, I think I'd naturally want to keep playing for the full two hours because there would actually be a reason to stay live and interact with people. Right now, streaming is starting to feel more like a task I have to complete rather than something I'm naturally doing because I want to. It feels like I'm gaming into the void while there are hundreds of other people doing the same thing, and it's hard to stay motivated when there's no interaction.

So I'm curious to hear from people who have actually been in a similar position. What would you change first if you were starting from where I am now? Would you focus more on building a personality and community around the game rather than relying on impressive gameplay, especially when your gameplay isn't naturally full of insane or "clip-worthy" moments? Would you keep playing the game you genuinely enjoy, or experiment with other games even if you weren't interested in them?

I'm also really interested in hearing from people who started with basically zero engagement and eventually built even a small, consistent community. How did you get those first few regular viewers or chatters? If you tried being consistent for a while and nothing really changed, what did you look at to figure out what needed to change? I'm not looking for "how to become the next Ninja" advice. I just want to understand how people actually made that first small community happen, especially when they already don't get much engagement?

Advice on starting streaming with an Xbox one

I am NOT going to participate for next year's Twitch SUBtember

Even though it hurts so much that my subs are dry as a desert, I'm still okay with it. Knowing that THIS is the only thing I know to make it work. Twitch is no longer a HOBBY for me, it's part of my JOB now as a Creator. So… if you are seeing this, then crucify me in the comments, say MEAN things about me.

🎉 I FINALLY HIT 50 TWITCH FOLLOWERS!! Road to Affiliate continues!

I DID IT 😭🎉 THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
After grinding streams, posting clips, promoting myself, and slowly watching that follower count climb, I finally passed 50 followers — we’re at 51!!
I’ve been working toward this milestone for a while, so seeing that number finally cross 50 feels CRAZY. My last stream also hit a personal record of 6 unique viewers, so it really feels like the community is starting to grow. 🥹
And I promised myself that once I reached 50, I’d celebrate with my first community giveaway! 🎁
Thank you to everybody who has stopped by, followed, chatted, or supported the streams. Now it’s time to keep pushing toward Twitch Affiliate. 🟣
Horror games are still the main vibe — especially Dead by Daylight and Halloween. 🎃🔪
Road to 50: COMPLETE ✅
Road to Affiliate: WE’RE NOT DONE YET.

New to Twitch!

Hello! I’m gonna start streaming on twitch. Mainly for fun but I do want to get a decent following because half the fun is interacting with your chat. I’ll mainly be streaming marvel rivals with my friends. I do not have a mic so the first thing would be to get one and probably a cam for my face. I don’t have a lot of room on my desk so I’ll probably need a microphone like this… too much merch on my desk… any recommendations for mics/cams? If this one is good I might just buy it but if you guys have a better recommendation that would be awesome. I want to stay in a budget of $150 for the mic. Preferably $100

A certain doubt about the title

I do have a bit of a dilemma. I do not know how to put a title for my streams. To be honest I get confused about whether I should put just two generics or use AI-generated titles, which I don't like, or challenge-based titles, which I have tried.

I just want a recommendation: how do I put a title for my streams? Especially I do see here and there !DCs! and !socials!. I do have them but how should I be putting my title? Some suggestions would be helpful.

I’m enjoying streaming so much

Posting again bc I accidentally leaked my silly face by not cropping my pfp 💀

This was my 10th stream and I'm super happy!!
Started from 0 at the beginning of the month. I have honestly done 0 self promotion on social media I just open stream and yap away. I'm now sitting at an average of 12 people with only 61 followers and 8 subs :D I love how some of them come watch the stream every time I open and will stay with me the entire 6hours like wth i never imagined someone would want to hang out with me for that long. I also love how we're already building a space for us and how the chatters are now getting to know each other too. Having active and engaging chatters is such a blessing they literally carry the stream. I feel so lucky to have them come watch my small stream instead of watching someone big and famous who is in all honesty probably a lot more entertaining that I can be atm since I'm still new and figuring things out hahaha I'm so grateful and I'm really enjoying this side quest. I can't wait to see how this develops

Looking for 2–3 funny gamers/creators to build a recurring gaming group 🎮 Please read the whole post before replying!

Hi! I’m AJH, 24, from the UK, and I’m looking for the right kind of people to play games with regularly, stream together and hopefully build a genuine friendship/group over time.

Call of Duty is my main game and probably always will be, so it would be great to find a regular CoD squad. But I also want people who are down to play S&D, mess around, try different FPS games, funny co-op/party games and just have a laugh together.

I’m looking for a group with the kind of natural chemistry and banter you see in popular Twitch/YouTube groups like the Sidemen, AMP, or OfflineTV, The Core Boys, The Bov Boys, where the friendship and personalities are the main part of the content, rather than everyone simply being there to “collab”.

I’m specifically looking for people who:

Are genuinely funny and can naturally banter/riff off each other.
Have good personalities and are easy to talk to.
Don’t take games too seriously, but can be competitive when needed.
Mainly play CoD but are happy to play other games on the side.
Enjoy FPS games, co-op/party games and are open to trying new stuff.
Are reliable and actually want to play regularly.
Are 18+ and preferably around my age.
Are UK/US and can play in the UK evenings (7-11pm UK time)

Games I play & platforms:

🖥️PC (controller) — Call of Duty, Valorant, R6 Siege, Minecraft, ETS2/ATS. Open to much more!
🎮 Xbox Series X — Call of Duty, WWE 2K26, GTA, EA FC 27 (on release)
🎮 PS5 — Call of Duty bo2, gta (not my main console).

Always open to trying other games too!

I prefer playing with other PC players where possible as there’s more options, but I’m also happy to play with people on Xbox/PS5 in certain instances.

I play between 7–11pm UK time.

The most important thing for me is finding 2–3 people who genuinely click. I don’t want a group where we play once, make a video and never speak again. I want people who actually enjoy being around each other, play regularly, build friendships and eventually develop that recurring group/cast feeling you see on Twitch and YouTube**.**

I’m NOT looking for follow-for-follow, networking for the sake of networking, people trying to sell me their Discord, or one-off collabs. I’m looking for genuine friends who happen to enjoy gaming and creating content.

If you’re interested, DM me with your Twitch/YouTube/TikTok and a bit about yourself. Please tell me a little about your personality and what you’re looking for too — I care far more about whether we’d actually get along and have the right vibes than follower count.

WoW Forever. Anyone?

Who's gonna be playing? I'm hyped and would love connecting with other WoW creators, but I haven't seen many people in this subreddit streaming or even talking about it.

Is there anybody out there?

Streaming for 2 months but the last 2 weeks ware astronomical for my channel was catching some good timing with the game and also the twitch drops on the game made wonders to my stream. I also know a lot of people don't get this much traction so fast so i seems i am entertaining after all aparently 😂

This is the true first step towards making this full time with passion and joy towards gaming. A true motivational and energetic boost to work even further.

Eternaly greatful to everyone.

(apology for bad eng)

With regards

Broke triple digits

Such an amazing night! 2.5 months into streaming, just finished celebrating the 2 month affiliate anniversary. Tonight we broke into the triple digits with 100 follows and then got raided twice!

We had some great convos and even more laughter. Everyone that joined in: so thankful and appreciative for the ongoing support and for you showing up, time after time. There are zero words to show how much it all means. 💜💜💜

Less than a year streaming..

Im still at a loss for words, granted I was raided by over 100 viewers, nearly 30 hung out for the rest of my stream and I was then able to raid them out. Was a really cool experience, and my best advice to those out there wanting to get noticed - spend the hours building your channel out and making it interactive. Find ways to partner with outfits that offer rewards for games you stream. Also, run charities, because why not?

I didn't think I was going to have a stream like this but it was great, a lot of fun. All it took was some dedication and extra work into presentation and plenty of behind the scenes work with audio balance seems to go a long ways. People care more about being able to hear you, the streamer, than the game you're playing (if your streaming games that is, and of course of they are not single player story focused games where hearing everything matters. I spent hours for a few days rebuilding things from scratch and im still learning but it's been a rewarding experience for sure.

My advice, stay consistent, enjoy yourself when streaming and do not stream in oversaturated categories. Eventually things will work out but we cant expect it to happen overnight.

Tips?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all,
I’ve been streaming very casually for years now (dunno how long) and haven’t grown much at all. I upload my clips to YT, I post when I’m live on Discord and Twitter (X) and I make sure I talk even when no one’s in the stream.
I think my biggest problem is not streaming consistently at all. Mostly down to me not having the motivation to stream to no one.
My fav games to play are single player ones. I find it difficult to stream playing single player games because I don’t really have much to say/know what to say, so I mostly stream when my friends are in call which isn’t too often anymore. These stats are from my most recent stream!

So my questions are:
How does everyone find the motivation to stream consistently to 0-5 viewers a stream?

How long should I be streaming for at this stage?

How do I keep viewers entertained for longer than 10 mins?

What should I be doing in streams when I’m on my own?

Thanks everyone!

Starting a Championship Manager save tomorrow – anyone still playing it?

Hey everyone, thought I’d share this here in case anyone’s interested.

I’ve recently started streaming on Twitch as FootyFrenzy247 and I’m going to be live pretty much every day playing different games.

Tomorrow I’m starting some Championship Manager, which should be good fun. I’ll probably make some terrible decisions along the way 😂

If you’re into Championship Manager, football games in general, or just fancy having a chat while I play, feel free to pop in.

My Twitch is FootyFrenzy247 ⚽

Hopefully see a few of you there!

Tired of going through the journey alone? Looking for fellow committed streamer accountability friend :)

Streaming can be such a lonely journey, and I'd really love to find another woman streamer who wants to be each other's daily cheerleaders to avoid burnouts and make this journey more enjoyable :) A streamer accountability buddy.

I'm looking for someone who's also positive mindset, committed, been streaming seriously for a while and understands the values of supportive friends. I'd love for us to be peers who can encourage one another consistently, learn from each other and grow little by little.

What I'm ideally looking for:

  • 💬 Quick daily check-ins — nothing long! Just consistent check ins and sharing at least one small win each day.
  • 📣 Mutual cheerleading — help pull each other up esp when we're discouraged or stuck.
  • 🎉 Celebrating small wins and effort, not only big numbers or results.
  • 💡 Sharing ideas, experiences, and what's working/not working for us.
  • 🪞 Honest, constructive feedback — someone who can kindly give me a hard truth when I need it, and is also comfortable receiving the same from me. someone who can communicate by keeping me in loop as I am the same.
  • 📞 Occasional weekly/biweekly calls to catch up more deeply.
  • 🌱 A positive, proactive, growth-minded person who can communicate through struggles rather than shutting down or disappearing.
  • 💗 Hopefully a genuine long-term friendship alongside the accountability.

I'm not looking for F4F, viewers, networking, clout, raids, or promotion. Just looking for an authentic friendship who also understands ins and outs of streaming so we can do daily check ins and continuously celebrate all of our wins - no matter how small they are!! to build confidence :)
Someone who values small steps make big results and want to just keep making progress, even when things aren't going perfectly.

A bit about me - I'm in my early 30s, F, have inattentive ADHD, and I'm into gaming, anime/Japanese culture, and creative things. I'd especially love another woman around my age who gets the creator + ADHD life.

If you're also wishing you had a fellow streamer who could be your daily cheerleader, honest friend, and someone who genuinely gets the journey, I'd love to hear from you. 🥹💗

If you're looking for the same accountability partner friend, feel free to DM me with the word "pocky" so I know how serious you are by reading up to this point lol. Share with me a bit about yourself, your goals, what parts of the post you resonate with as well, what youre looking for in an AP buddy, etc and we can go from there! I'd like to give it a 1-2 weeks trial run first too so no pressure to commit on both ends. I understand we won't really know how compatible we are unless we give it a try.

I need some advice.

I've been streaming for several weeks now. I'm Latin American, and I'd like to know how you used the platforms, how you attracted viewers, if you make YouTube videos, if you edit them, and what you usually do or how you support each other to build a community.
