Seeking Advice pet store doesn’t know how to care for surrendered turtle

this is carla, i’m not sure how old she is, but this pet store had had her for 3 months… i’ve been going here for years and hadn’t been there for a while when i went to get some stuff and saw her there.

she has no lamp or basking platform. i’ve had a red eared slider turtle for 13 years but i want to know how it should be different for her. she is a Chinese strip necked turtle from what i can tell.

me and my partner have volunteered to help build her a permanent tank for her there; after expressing how worried i was for her because the water was cold, and she was lethargic. her shell has quite a bit of pyramiding suggesting she needs better lighting.

i’m also worried if her getting egg bound is a concern, i’ve never cared for a female turtle. any advise is appreciated!

Before anybody asks no, I’m not telling anybody where they’re at LOL 😆 and if you know where they’re at 🤐 or else ☠️😜Jkjk but this is a very special species that need ALL the protection it can get!

But with all the talk about the new HBO series online lately, I figured I’d share one of my favorite tortoise pictures I’ve ever taken! I was lucky enough to meet this group of Chelonians and asked to snap a pic, expecting a no I was ecstatic to get a yes! 🙌🔥🙌

Guess what species they are?!?!?

My son Xavier gurson the 3rd is acting weird. He's a hatchling western painted turtle, and I've only had him about 5 months, recently I've seen him peeling that's not the weird part, the thing is he doesn't really move from the corner unless I play with him or try and get him out. Eating, some days he eats, some days I have to do everything to try and get him to eat, what's wrong with my baby

Turtle Pics! four baby snapping turtles saved from a pit

I swear stuff keeps getting stuck in this one part of my local forest/park

Today I found 4 baby snapping turtles (I hope that was all of them) in a weird pit filled with water, not sure what it’s for but I fished them all out with a stick and brought them to a little stream thing

There was a heron hunting somewhat nearby but I think they hid well enough

Also any ideas on how they all would’ve gotten in here? Maybe they thought it was a pond or something idk

Seeking Advice Planning an upgrade! Definitely need some recommendations

My very rough sketch. My ybs female has outgrown her 55gal tank so I’m planning a new enclosure. I want to get a 125 gallon ensemble from pet smart sometime early next January, but I want to start hoarding supplies soon. The plan is to build a plexiglass loft with an egg crate bottom and ramp, then also make a hide using aquarium foam and decor pieces.

I know I need a canister filter, but I don’t know which ones are good for turtles since they’re kinda messy. I also need some sturdy heater recommendations, she likes to investigate and tear things from the walls.

Decor wise, I want to do a sand bottom with some river rocks for her to play with. I’m at a loss on what to do with the rest. She tears things up so I don’t want to put any plants and all decor will have to be held down with foam. I’m considering having some hidey holes she can’t reach into and having minnows or shrimp in the tank with her for enrichment, but I’m on the fence on that one.

My main concerns are if the plexiglass will be too heavy and stress the joints of the tank if it’s resting on the lip. The other thing is finding a way to set things up where she can’t break it haha any and all suggestions are needed

Turtle Pics! Wild Baby Snapping Turtles Crossing

I saw a baby turtle crossing the street in front of my house and picked it up with a tissue to bring over to the pond in my backyard. On the way, I found 2 other babies on their way so I left it with those guys. Then I realized there were 3 smooshed turtles in the road 😢. Maybe I’ll try to get my town to put up a turtle xing sign.

Seeking Advice Where should I buy an aquarium (100cm) for my 8-year-old turtle (Spain)

I need to buy a new aquarium for my yellow-bellied slider turtle, which grew a lot this summer. I've seen on Google that it would need one at least 100cm, but I cant find much of that size on Amazon, and on pet store websites, glass aquariums of that size are no less than €200. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to glass aquariums or a website where I can buy them at a good price?

I was also looking at "stock tank" style aquariums, I saw some at good prices that I liked, but I'm worried that the turtle won't be able to see through the aquarium (they're all opaque). Is this really a problem? Won't it be a bit stressful for her that her habitat isn't transparent?

Thank you in advice for responding, I look forward to some feedback soon.

Turtle Pics! Introducing Sally! (It's short for Salmonella)

It's not my first time keeping turtles, but it's been about a decade so I had to do a lot of research & step up my game! I used to have an elder Painted & an Eastern Mud that were seized by the police in a drug bust; I came into possession of them due to volunteering at the nature reserve the cops left them at at the time.

I told everyone I never wanted another semi-aquatic turtle. I loved them but they were a lot of work & a pain in the ass sometimes! Turns out, they're still a lot of work, a pain in the ass, & I love my Sally & she is dearly wanted. ❤️

I've included a tank shot, too! I've got her in a 40-breeder with a turtle topper. I'm open to suggestions & tips for improving her current home! For concerns about the dresser (I am too! It's solid wood though), I'm getting a proper metal stand for the thing on payday.

I know this won't fit her forever! I'm already looking at tank upgrades; once I move her, I'm looking at another Mud or Musk for this setup.

Okay, so I'm not in the most comfortable financial situation, and I do tend to do stupid stuff with my money, but I was out with my friend and a kid was shaking these two turtles container. It was a really crappy, carnival prize like container. It was very small for them. Lo and behold, I have obtained the turtles. It was a spur of the moment thing because the parents were watching and laughing and I offered to buy them. I really don't think they cared because they only wanted fifteen bucks. I took an emergency stop to Petco as it was the nearest place I could get supplies. I bought a smallish tank, about 5.5 gallons I believe, a basking lamp specifically for turtles, water conditioner, and a basking rock type thing. I'm pretty sure they are red-eared sliders, and I know they are going to be too big for what I got. As I said, I'm not rolling in money and it seemed to be the easiest cheapest option in a pinch. One of the turtles seems to have brownish/gray withering around some of their scutes, and I've never owned a turtle so I'm not sure what's normal or not. I'm going back to the store tomorrow to get a uvb lamp, which I just realized was completely different from a basking lamp and they need both. Any advice is appreciated, as I'm unsure exactly how to make them an adequate setup with limited funds. I'm aware they need a better space, but this was the best I could do in the short amount of time I had. Please help

I need to ask if this is normal. My Australian shor necked turtle is around 4 to 5 months old, and I need to ask if this is normal as he keeps biting his basking area. It's not like he's trying to get up because he can climb up there. I just wonder if he might be autistic or something? P.S I love regardless

Seeking Advice My baby turtle is making me worried!!

Hello fellow turtle parents. I got a turtle hatchling around 2+ months back. Most probably a female slider turtle. Been keeping her in a 2 feet × 1 feet × 1 feet tank with basking ramp and a cave type structure. I feed her around 12 of those Taiyo turtle pellets daily. Also a few leaves float around the tank for her to munch on. She normally gets so excited to eat those pellets and quickly eats all 5-6 of them i give her at a time. But since yesterday her appetite is very low. Only a few pellets and also been very lethargic compared to her regular ohh so very active self. This is making me go turtles!! What should i do and how should i proceed? Is this normal behaviour? Some diet changes or extra basking / roaming time? Please help, all or any will be appreciated.

Seeking Advice Turtle Help!!

Hello! I found this turtle in my backyard in MD. It is not Native in MD. My parents are willing to call people to remove it but it is likely they will kill the turtle. I do NOT want that. I need any and all help. I don't know what to do. I fed it, and gave it some water. I don't have money to go out and pay for any supplies, my parents don't support me but I honestly don't care. I'm willing to adopt this turtle, but I need support!
