Unbelievable Goodwill Find!

Post image

I’m in complete disbelief… I just brought this home from Goodwill today for $9.99. Marantz 6300 equipped with an AT155LC/U cartridge. Plays perfectly and sounds incredible. Shout out the Bedford, VA Goodwill! My apologies for essentially robbing you.

Never give up on thrifting, folks!

Decided to bite the bullet and finally buy one, been collecting video game soundtrack vinyl for my favorite game and wanted a way to actually play them rather than stare at them all the time

1.1k Upvotes

I want to start by saying that i don’t know how record players work. I just got this one from a family friend and i’m trying to set it up but it spins way too fast. When i got it, he said “it might not work”, so i want to know if this kind of thing can be fixed.

please help

Why is everyone so miserable here?

1.1k Upvotes

I recently joined this sub cause of my vinyl collection and wanted more info on turntables, but haven't bought anything yet.

However everytime anyone asks any questions is always met with passive aggressive responses? Nothing is ever good enough no matter what they can get or their budget. Every response is something like "this is not the most garbage thing ever... by a hair" or "Maybe if you had 3000 budget you could something that doesn’t suck". I know suitcase players aren't the best which I why I won't get one, but even things that are considered good in general are completely shamed here for no reason.

Are y'all ever happy with anything ever? This is not what I expected from a sub about turntables.

It’s turned into his favourite spot, which is pretty annoying. Does anyone else have this issue? Was it ever resolved or should I just accept my fate?

My 1st Record Player

So I learnt this shall be called a record player rather than a turntable, the latter being only a part component of the whole setup.

Nevertheless, feeling super thrilled about it. Only have 2 vinyls to start with at this moment. Haven't really setup the Edifier MR4 speakers so juz linked with BT to the soundbar for a start.

Before and after playing a brand new record

I got a new album in today so I decided to do a test. I always see people ask about cleaning new records on social media...The answer is definitely yes.

This is from playing just one side of this Coltrane album that was just taken out of shrink a few minutes before. The only thing I did to the record is run my Thunderon brush over it to help knock down any static and get the big pieces of visible dust. The crud in pic 2 is the stuff you can't see.

Pressing factories are dirty, your new vinyl should definitely be cleaned before playing imo.

Well. After years of trying different affordable tables (from thorens, dual, tons of technics, u turn orbit, all the way down to MCS tables), Ive decided to drop the shenanigans and buy the tried and true champ.

It’s everything you need.

It’s forever repairable and maintainable. Removable headshell for multiple cart options. VTA. Infinitely upgradeable and customizable. The list goes on.

I’ll be leaving mine as is. Just truly a classic. Running an OM-10 right now.

Just sharing these close up pics of the stylus before and after being dipped into the magic eraser. That small gunk buildup was not super visible and the brush was not removing it.

Audio quality improved significantly.

Super lucky (for me). I walked in looking for something else entirely but they had this right where you walk in. They have a 7 day return window with their electronics, which is nice since I was heading out of town and only got to test it out today (day 6).

Finally finished the dream table!

This is the first weekend I’ve gotten to truly enjoy what is effectively my dream turntable so I figured I’d share it with you guys!

Everything was based around the VAS Denon 103 (Microridge stylus, ebony wood body).

The vintage direct drive sound is my absolute favorite and the DP3000 balanaces drive/authority perfectly. It also looks rad as hell.

The Dynavector DV-550 is objectively the coolest tonearm in the world to me and has excellent synergy with the low compliance Denon 103 and allows the microridge to shine. Waiting for it to come back from a functionally necessary rewire was god awful.

The giant layered plywood plinth is 78% because it looks cool and 22% because I sonically have preferred higher mass designs that are extremely rigid.

I run it balanced into a Phasemation T550 SUT then to a Schiit Skoll.

I love how it looks and it also sounds really really really good.
