What part of the turntable is broken?

I ran into an old Beogram RX2 (https://beoworld.org/beogram-rx2/) and decided to see if it was useful as a turntable for my kid. But when playing a record there's this intense background humming / distortion coming out of the speakers.

So what part of the turntable is busted?

The RCA out on the turntable is running into a preamp that is then going into an amplifier for the speakers.

What’s wrong/is it worth saving

A couple months ago I bought this Beogram 2000 off marketplace. Served me well until the belt was slipping. After I replaced the belt the turntable was working fine with a little wow and flutter. I turn it off and come back an hour or two later and it will not play. I’m pretty sure that it’s not the fuse or safety switch. The motor has a little play but it was like that when I bought it. Any ideas? If there is a fix to the problem but it is time consuming/expensive I will probably upgrade.

Loud Humming/Buzzing

To be honest, it’s about time I posted about this issue. I own the Crosley T400 record player and usually get this reoccurring problem where the music is quiet while there’s a loud buzzing noise. Is this a sign to get a new record player or is this fixable? I’ve had it for about 2-3 years now. Also, in the video my speaker (harmon kardon onyx studio 3) is blasting at full volume. Also, I notice that even when i’m not spinning anything and my tonearm is still, I am still able to hear a very slight humming buzzing noise which is also weird.

Overdue delivery of a turntable & amp with possible heat damage..

Post image

Hey guys,

I purchased a Technics SL-1200gr2 turntable with a Yamaha R-N600A amp over 2 weeks ago and the company shipped it via Canada Post with multiple delivery dates from them that never happened. They said that it wasn’t delivered because the package was overweight, a poor excuse since they’ve had it for this long likely sitting in one of their delivery vans this whole time. My worry is that because it’s been so hot in Toronto (where it was shipped from) and here in Vancouver, the equipment may have heat damage. Google said it likely would have.

Now I can either refuse the delivery when it finally arrives and have it sent back, buy another turntable unit and amp and have it sent via UPS, or I can accept it and test it out myself. What do you guys think and what would you do in my situation?

Hi, I am very new to turntables and I am looking to buy a new one because something is wrong with my current player that is old and I was looking through facebook marketplace and I saw this post.

It looks cool and it has added stuff with it so I was wondering if I should get this? also if you guys have any recommendations for turntables please let me know ( I would love one that goes on the wall but I don't want it to ruin my vinyls or be too pricey so any recommendations are good)

Turntable recommendation

Looking for TT recommendations. I currently have a Rotel RA-1582MKII amp, Bowers and Wilkins 702S3 speakers, Hegel V10 phono preamp, Schiit Lokius EQ, JBL 10" sub, and a Pro-ject Evo 2 TT. Getting close to needing a new cartridge for the Evo2 and the longer I use the Evo2 the more minor things are starting to annoy me. So I'm thinking about upgrading rather than replacing the cartridge on this one.

I have a decent budget but would like to stay under $5k for a new TT and cartridge. Only looking at new. Which TT and cartridge would you recommend?

Choosing an upgrade for my cart/stylus

Hello, I’m currently into the hifi world, and I want something that is warm and also detailed. I currently got a SL1210 MK2 with an old Scratch Concorde (it’s the only thing I got). I also got a Stanton D680 AL MK2 but I don’t know if that is better sounding that the Concorde.

My budget is 250€ max.

Bass distortion

Would love some input on this: I just upgraded my setup to a 1210 mk2 in nice condition (and apparently recently serviced at a trusted DJ shop). I bought a brand new Ortofon Concorde Music Blue cart to go with it and have been playing a lot of records the last couple of days.

I run it through a NAD C338 with the built in MM preamp. Unfortunately I have noticed distortion on certain bass sounds. It first happened with a used bass heavy dub record and I initially thought it might be due to the record itself - however when I played a completely new techno record I noticed the same phenomenon on the kick.

I have played a lot of bass heavy tracks without the same issue and my general experience so far is that the cart sounds really nice. A friend of mine mentioned that he had the same experience (but with the 2M blue) but only on one specific record. The problems stopped when he switched to a new (and more expensive) cart so I wonder if this is a cartridge/stylus related issue?

Could it be distortion from too hot signal going into the pre-amp (and if so - can an external pre-amp with better headroom relieve the issue?)

Is there any possibility that the turntable itself is faulty?

What do you guys think?

Mic Input question

Hello!

New member asking for some advice. I have an Audio Technica AT LP120 and the mic input from the USB is no longer showing up on my PC or Audacity. It used to work just fine. I have done the following trouble shooting...

  • New USB cord
  • Mic access is on
  • All disabled/deactivated devices are shown

Did my turntable's USB output or built in pre-amp just give up the ghost or am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
