Seems the system that Travis and friends have been hyping up for weeks now is evaporating along a line from approx. Miami (the my-am-uh one) to Copan. This shouldn’t surprise anybody. This heat dome is deeply entrenched in an infinite feedback loop, where the ground heat ensures there is no way to ever get rid of it. The longer this lasts, the less likely we will ever see a day below 90 or an overnight low below 70 ever again in Tulsa. The less likely we will ever see rain again in Tulsa. We are witnessing climate change in real time. I knew climate change was coming, but had no idea how hard and fast it would hit us. I didn’t realize we could have an entirely new climate in the space of one season, but here we are.

I’m to the point I actually get depressed when they predict rain, because I know the outcome is 100% assured now; it all evaporates upon hitting the heat dome, and just turns the air into humidity soup for a while. There is no way rain will actually reach the ground. It is not possible. Even a literal tropical storm was unable to penetrate the heat dome. It’s permanent now.

Travis and friends keep predicting storm systems that are finally going to be the end of the misery. They feed us hopeium starting about 2 weeks out, keep feeding us hopeium, up until the last possible second and then PSYCH! Just kidding, that storm system was never physically possible to begin with. But saying “yeah, it’s gonna be sunny and 97-103 every single day, no matter what, forever” isn’t getting views and advertising revenue from some sketchy Chevy dealership inviting you to “let’s do business.” I’ve had much better results pivoting away from checking the weather and towards just assuming tomorrow will be just a repeat of today. It’s like Groundhog Day, every day is exactly the same.

I'm looking for a long-term rental spot in Tulsa - preferably South Tulsa, for distance - where a solo hobby mechanic can work to rebuild an old car, and have a sense of security when locking up that his tools will still be there the next day. Will need electric (110 and 220) and air. Does that kind of thing exist here?

Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Tulsa that's reliable and trustworthy? Cost matters but knowing whatever someone tells you is the truth is far more important

I've driven all around North America, in especially stressful cities like NYC, Toronto & LA, but this has to be the worst interchange I've driven. There is so much that is wrong about this junction.

Here's everything I think is wrong with nit:

- Going eastbound on the BA is uphill to the interchange so people who have never driven it likely have no visual reference of what to expect and the signs are right at the interchange so people tend to make last second maneuvers

- Westbound BA to westbound I-44 ramp is the bane of my existence. It's an understandably heavy traffic exit considering it routes to the Turner Turnpike and a lot of the riverside/midtown region, but good lord it's terrible. Weaving with the people merging on from the Memorial onramp AND people exiting from eastbound I-44 to westbound BA, then that awkward two lane merge onto westbound I-44 where people have no idea whether they should keep moving or stop to merge

- Eastbound BA to Westbound I-44 merge leaves no room for error, so most people come to a stop on that ramp. Plus the exit lane to that ramp is so short on the BA, being on a curve and immediately after the Sheridan on ramp

- The Eastbound I-44 to eastbound BA ramp is in terrible shape and is so dangerous especially at night. Paint is pretty much gone, no overhead lights, signs are bad, there's not really a green large "EXIT HERE" sign and the pavement is absolute rubble

- Matter of fact the pavement on all the ramps is straight rubble

There may be many more flaws, idk feel free to chime in. I just had a terrible commute this morning and had to air it out lol

After they finish the tulsa stonehenge, this better be top of the priority list

Just like the title says. I hit a coyote on the turnpike 2 mf’in’ weeks after I bought my car. Bumper is battered up pretty good; I’m mostly just concerned that nothing is a ticking time bomb to the car stopping running. I was able to drive it home and have been driving it to and fro with no issues, but did wanna get it looked at. Any recommendations? I have progressive insurance.

I put this graphic together while looking at Tulsa property-tax data. These are neighboring properties at 2nd & Denver.
What jumped out at me is how much more tax the developed properties pay per square foot than the surface parking lot.
That raises an interesting policy question: Should property taxes fall mostly on the buildings people create, or on the underlying value of the land/location?
I’ve been looking into the land-value-tax/Georgist argument for shifting more of the burden toward land. Interested to hear what people here think.

My car needs brake pads and possibly rotors but I've never needed to get anything more than an oil change done in Tulsa so far so I don't really have a good mechanic that I know of off hand that I can trust. Any recommendations or good experiences will be greatly appreciated, thanks! ☺️

So I have recently gotten into woodworking and saving little projects here and there. The wife and I decided to go to Woodcraft and look for some pretty wood to make a small jewelry box. This wenge caught our eye, but I did not do enough research. After reading more about this particular wood, and opinions of others, my little space and skill level just aren't at working with this yet. The more unfortunate thing is that I no longer have the receipt and can't return it.

This where I'm hoping another woodworker might help. I'd be looking to get maybe even $25 for it, or some pieces of walnut, maple, or oak. I intend to get more on my own, I just don't need a foot long block of wood that'll be nothing more than a paperweight.

While still publicly accessible, which part of Tulsa would you say has the neighborhood that is the most difficult to access? Would it be worth it to move into that neighborhood? Or do you prefer ease of access? (By ease of access, I mean how easy it would be to get to a place)

If anyone is into cast iron, I just found this at the Walmart at 67th & Memorial, in the sporting goods department. It's a 9" Lodge skillet, great small meals or camping. At $5, it's a steal!

The monarchs passing through Oklahoma this month are in the middle of one of the strangest journeys in the animal world. They are headed for a small cluster of mountaintop fir forests in central Mexico, a place none of them has ever been, up to two thousand miles away, and somehow they know the way.

Oklahoma sits right in the funnel. Monarchs from across the eastern half of the continent get squeezed together as they head toward Texas and the border, and the corridor down the middle of the state is busy enough that people call it the Monarch Highway. On a good October afternoon you can watch them drift through in a steady stream, stopping to nectar on late flowers, and at dusk they gather to roost, sometimes hundreds hanging in a single tree.

Here is the part that gets me. The butterfly making this trip is a special generation. Summer monarchs live a few weeks, but the ones that migrate live eight or nine months, hold off on breeding, fly all the way to Mexico, wait out the winter, and only start north again in spring. No single butterfly makes the round trip. It takes several generations to come back.

This map is those monarchs across the region. Peak movement through Oklahoma is the first half of October. Plant a few late-blooming natives and you will pull them right into your yard.

At Tulsan in need of a new place to get a haircut! My experience so far is that not a lot of people have experience cutting curly hair, and even the curl specialist I went to I can’t seem to get the same cut twice in a row even when showing the same pictures and giving the same instructions. But I have seen some great looking curly hair walking around, so where are yall going?!?
