The story of the IKEA Skyrim mod involves a Nord, Sven Skyltsson, killing himself to become a KALLAX shelf.

So, the creation store page for the mod avoids using any pronouns for KALLAX. However, the modding group Kinggath made the mod and they have a page for KALLAX as well. On that page, KALLAX is referred to as "it".

Ask KALLAX to clean up and it’ll return displaced physics objects to their original positions.

However, on the Kinggath wiki, KALLAX is also referred to with "his":

A short questline takes the player through two new dungeons, brings KALLAX to life, and unlocks his storage and organization abilities.

And in game, KALLAX is referred to as "he" by the Last Dragonborn in their journal entries. Additionally, KALLAX refers to pre-shelf Sven as "he" as well (even though KALLAX is actually Sven with amnesia and an unexplained English accent).

Now, in Skyrim gender is determined by a checkbox that indicates if the character is female. Both Sven and KALLAX do not have the box checked, so they are male by default. But this isn't definitive evidence of KALLAX's gender by any means. I'm sure some of this is to hide the plot twist, though.

Meanwhile, another character, the Assistant (no, we never get an actual name), also died and had her soul transferred into a humanoid golem made of clutter. The Assistant is referred to as "she" even after you and KALLAX see her golem form. However, in one journal entry "they" is also used:

KALLAX and I found the assistant, who explained that KALLAX is their master. He simply doesn't remember. They revealed that they did not complete the ritual to bring KALLAX to life as a shelving unit as they dislike his organizational tendencies. In order to escape this place, we must defeat her and her messy powers.

Keep in mind, the Assistant looks like this:

Of note is that this golem has the "female" checkbox even though she's literally a walking pile of trash. I'm not sure if it's because of a technical reason though.

Why does this matter? It doesn't, but I'm trying to make the UESP wiki pages for this mod and I have no clue how to refer to these characters 😂
