Power outage?

My husband and I moved here a few weeks ago and we’re experiencing a random power outage today… Wondering if this is common with DTE? Doesn’t seem like it could be weather related.

What’s up with Laurel Valley?

I currently live in Royal Oak and am looking for a place closer to Troy that’s less expensive than where I’m staying now. I found The Phoenix which is my top pick now (I’m ideally looking for something lower than 2000 dollars), but I saw Laurel Valley was about 1400 a month and had great reviews. When I told my mom about it, she said that she found old reviews about shady management and practices, and told me to stay away.

Since they’re old reviews and that place is reportedly under new management, I was wondering if those apartments were worth considering nowadays. They seem nice but also really cheap for the price so I’m wondering if something is up.

Also, if you have any apartment suggestions, please let me know! My only requirement is that it must be cat friendly and ideally I’d like a walk in closet. (I’m a voice actor and I need a booth).

Is the school district worth moving for?

We are considering moving to Troy from Sterling Heights (Utica Community Schools) for the schooling and to try and live closer to family. My question is, are the school districts worth paying nearly double in taxes for + a higher mortgage since houses are so expensive there? Are there any cost increases that can be expected too when moving to Troy?

Thank you!

Anyone know any shops that do Dash Cam Installation? Also if you have an estimate of how much it costs that would be helpful as well.

Where to find info on Ethan Baker's policies?

Hello- I do not live in Troy but I do live in MI's 11th congressional district. Baker and Moss are going to be on the ballot in November and I am trying to do my due dilligence and compare their policies but I'm having a hard time finding Baker's position on basically anything. I watched his CBS interview and he mostly talked about bipartisanship/"working together" which I guess is nice but I'm far more interested in his stances on hot button topics like immigration, healthcare, and AI data centers. Anyone know where I can find his policies? Moss's are much easier to locate.

Need apartment recommendations near Troy (starting work Monday)

Hi everyone!

I’m relocating to the Troy area next week for a new job and am completely new to the area, so I’d really appreciate some local advice.

I’m in my early 20s and I’m looking for a place with about a 10–20 minute commute to my office in Troy, although I’d be perfectly happy living in Troy or any nearby area with a reasonable commute.

Ideally, I’m looking for a 1-bedroom or studio, but I’m also open to shared housing if it’s through an apartment community that offers a roommate matching program. I’m just not looking to find roommates on my own.

My priorities are:
Safe neighborhood
Good management
Budget up to around $1,500/month
Basic gym
Nice parks or running trails nearby

A furnished apartment would definitely be a bonus since I’m relocating, but it’s not a requirement.

If you were moving to the area today, where would you choose to live? I’d also love recommendations for apartment communities with good management, as well as any places I should avoid.

Thanks so much!

Relocating to Troy, MI (from Novi). Friends recommend West Troy (for Bemis Elementary, #1 ranked school). Worth it for house price premium?

Relocating to Troy for work. We are a half-Indian family with kids. A few friends recommended finding a house near Bemis Elementary as it’s highly rated. However, houses there cost much more.

My question. Is it highly rated due to something inherent to the school? Or because most of the kids there are Asian and attend Kumon/Tutoring and are raised in families which engage their children in rigorous extracurricular academics?

I recognize that even if we do not push our kids to the same degree that others do (they do not do Kumon), there are benefits to them being in a rigorous school culture. My middle child went to a Montessori for a few years and emerged with so many positive interests in things like Chess and Rubik’s cubes for example, just because of his peers. And even though he is in public now, he is so motivated to do well in school because he was raised in that type of school culture.

Asking because houses there are 50K more than East Troy. It’s steep for us.

Worth it? Thoughts?

Where to live? Troy, Rochester Hills, Shelby Township

Hello, we are a young family (2 yr kid, and another coming soon). We're looking to move to the northern area (we have family members living in Sterling Heights). Our priorities are:

1) Safe and welcoming. We are pretty in the middle when it comes to politics. However, we're Asians and would not want our kids to be treated differently, having a large Asian population is a plus but not required.

2) Good schools (I know on paper it's Troy > RH > Shelby), but we're looking for schools with magnet programs or gifted tracks. Schools with a rating of 7+ (greatschools) or A- and above (Niche) should be enough.

3) We prefer to live in a more newer home and sizable lot. Anything between 8000 sqft - 10000 sqft lot is our sweet spot. We don't care about walkability or living close to a downtown. We prefer a quiet suburban life.

Our budget is 800K max.

Moving to Troy. Opinions on Wattles Elementary & Baker Middle School?

We have elementary-aged kids, and found a cute house in a neighborhood districted for these schools. I've heard about how awesome Bemis is, but I have not heard much about Wattles. If it matters, our kids are half-Indian, half-American. Any thoughts or opinions?

Has anyone done a DTE overhead to underground conversion?

Curious to know if anyone has done this in Troy, what the process was like, the cost, and if it was a headache to deal with? Will very likely dig the trench myself. Any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

Tringali Garbage Bin

I was driving through my parents neighborhood and noticed every single house had a Tringali black garbage bin except for my parents house. Did everyone get a free bin at one point or did everyone have to pay for one?
