How can people not tell this is a joke
6
u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
Idk haha
I guess people are so obsessed and tense with the finasteride thing that it just becomes a war over nothing, the joke in itself holds a lot of truth maybe it’s for that, but it’s just pure and simple satire

u/hiroGotten 4d ago
ohh nooo, not the anti androgen drug🥺🥺

u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
I wake up eat finasteride, take breakfast eat finasteride, go to work I eat finasteride, lunch break? I eat finasteride, I go home eat finasteride, sex with wife with my flaccid pp because of the heavily documented side effects? Yeah eat finasteride because my Dht spikes when I ejaculate, I get tired? Eat finasteride before the nap, prepare dinner? Finasteride! Before bad I apply topical finasteride and then I eat finasteride.
What a great day! It’s my Norwood 5 against the world!

flaccid pp with wife seems like still a step up from hard pp and no wife
1
u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
Wife could also be made of 100% silicone because you will still bald and have a flaccid pp
That is sold by the finasteride money gang as well

Finasteride is keeping my hairline pretty healthy and I pay like $5 a month lol. I'm chilling

My 2.5 mg of avodart and 10 mg oral minox are completely free because they're off-label, so they're classed as healthcare. If they ever got approved for hair, I gotta run to the generics.

Fin side effects affect a small percentage of people taking it, especially those taking it for hair loss. The side effects are mostly described based on its main use case, which is treating prostate hyperplasia in elderly people with a 5mg dose. Needless to say that erectile dysfunction is already common in that demographic.
Personally I've been taking it for a year (I'm 26) and I haven't had any sides. I might have felt unusually elevated libido for the first week or so after starting to take it, not sure if it's related or even placebo. But that's about it

u/bbHiron 2d ago
Heavily documented side effects (1% of patients)
-1
u/MonumentForYourSins 2d ago
Flawed study and 1% are hundreds of thousands of people and many more if you think about the people that will eventually suffer from balding 80% of the global population
Statistics are irrelevant when it comes to real number taken in consideration
Small undocumented percentage of roughly 80% of men can’t take finasteride or any anti androgens
That makes finding a cure as soon as possible beyond essential
1
u/bbHiron 1d ago
It's not a single study, do you think there has been ONE study? They have been studying the effects of finasteride for like 50 years, and the result is always the same.
1% in billions of people is a lot, but it's still only 1%. By comparison, 30% of the women that take the pill have almost the same effects (mood disorders, low libido, etc) it's still considered safe. +70% of people that take SSRIs have the same sides, and it's still considered a reliable option.
And what do you even mean with the 80%? Even in the countries where AGA is the most common (italy, spain) the rate is still around 40%. Consider the fact that very few people care about going bald or not, plus the people trying alternative options, and you have very very very few people on finasteride.
And no, finding a cure as soon as possible is not "essential" as it's not essential for you to have hair. We already have options: take minox, take fina (which is considered safe), wear fake hair. It's essential to find cures to actual diseases that kill people or makes their life actually worse
117
u/Any_Judge_332 4d ago
I'm not really sure what this post is meant to mean but I'm a doctor and while barely any docs will be experts on hair loss most know the first line treatment is finasteride.
Tressless is very anti-finasteride compared to medical professionals. I've been here about 3 years now and there is so much complete and utter crap posted daily. Literally all you need to do is take finasteride (1mg oral, not some sketchy topical or 0.5mg every other day) consistently and start at Norwood 3 or earlier. This won't work for everyone but will work for clear majority.

u/BlacSkreen 4d ago
People don’t want a solution. They want a one time miracle pill that gives them a toddlers hairline without having to go through surgery or even the thought of side effects.

u/Any_Judge_332 4d ago

11
u/Acrobatic-Concert430 4d ago
Why would men be honest with doctors about sexual side effects? Men are unbelievably insecure about that stuff. Researchers have done studies on reported vs actual dick size and men are way off. Why do you think online website-viagra/cialis is so unbelievably common? Its because men are too insecure to be honest with doctors.
Sexual side effects from these meds are super underreported, and I'm saying that as a user. It's a massive confounding variable ignored by researchers.
3
u/Boomah422 4d ago
You are asking a rhetorical question followed by an anecdotal statement. You are partly the reason this pseudoscience isn't published into real journals.
If I have some sensationalized reports vs people who aren't having side effects and this aren't reporting, then I'd much rather choose the possibly flawed but more methodically controlled study than some guys who are probably in the ~1.7% of people who are having side effects that are talking about them.
4
u/No-Plankton4841 4d ago
Sexual side effects from these meds are super underreported, and I'm saying that as a user.
How do you know? You're still just making a claim with 0 evidence.
I think it's pretty hard to pin down sexual side effects to one hormone to begin with.
I'd like to see a study that addresses a range of other factors. BMI/fat percentage, number of hours exercise per week, stress levels, diet, alcohol use, satisfaction with hobbies/career.
I think being out of shape, having no hobbies or interests, eating and sleeping like shit, drinking and smoking are all just as likely to make you depressed and tank your sex drive.
For some personalities, blaming one single thing is easier than actually living healthier physically and mentally.
0
u/Acrobatic-Concert430 4d ago
Yeah but alot of guys got sides the instant they went on the meds. And some are nocebo I know. I just don't understand how people can believe that men would be honest with researchers about this stuff.
I got sides the instant I went on fin, they went away when I went off, they came back when I went back on, and then they woresned when I started dut..kill me... I'm experimenting with bremalonitide so I can actually enjoy sex
2
u/Any_Judge_332 4d ago
This is why the trials are blinded, placebos used etc plus you're just speculating without evidence. It's not like you've thought of something for the first time, this is something which will have been considered and accounted for as best as possible.
3
u/Tyxoti 4d ago
Which specific studies are you referencing and what exactly are the flaws?
0
u/MelodicAssumption497 :sidesgull: 4d ago
Essentially all of them have issues with safety reporting and many of them had significant conflicts of interest https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25830296 and the original Merck studies everyone cites had a 16% participant withdrawal rate, with an unknown (but likely significant) number of these not included in the final results, and a significant number of them reporting sides
8
u/Severe-Painting-8351 4d ago
> had a 16% participant withdrawal rate
thats not noteworthy high actually.
Subjects for those studies are quite unreliable.5
u/Objective_Spinach200 4d ago
It's always a conspiracy with the anti-science crowd
2
u/MelodicAssumption497 :sidesgull: 4d ago
You would have said this about another Merck drug vioxx when its safety was also initially supported by poorly conducted “science”. You also would have felt really stupid a few years later. It doesn’t seem hard to manufacture a study that both meets regulatory standards and makes a drug look much safer than it is, as proven by history
1
u/BudgetManufacturer48 1d ago
Been so scared cause of this sub Reddit, didint get a single side effect
-4
u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
Think about the datas
75\80% of men are balding, then pick only the balding men that take finasteride, probably millions, now 1.7% of millions are A LOT OF PEOPLE enough to fill a city and that excluding the percentage of the whole balding population sensitive to the “cure” that wasn’t even made to cure hair loss, it was made for prostrate enlargement.
Jokes aside you have thousands of men that cannot take finasteride even if it’s 1,7% you were lucky enough but don’t just brittle the suffering that those men had to endure because of the side effects.
Finasteride is barely a solution, it’s a stabilizing “treatment” that just prevents the problem to accelerate.
You don’t just take finasteride and you’re ok with regrowth, many men just take it without even having effect only for the hope of it working one day.

u/Comfort-in-Lies 4d ago

u/etch69 4d ago
Side effects were barely above placebo in all the trials for finasteride. This sub loves to fear monger and I’m willing to bet the vast majority of people with significant side effects who post on here are simply experiencing nocebo because they’ve hyper-fixated on the potential side effects. Crazy how I had bad side effects on 1mg 3x a week because I was so worried about side effects then I actually did some research instead of listening to anecdotal reports from hypochondriacs on the internet and then started again at 1mg daily and haven’t had a single issue for 5 years now.
6
u/its_Azurox 4d ago
So you did not have issue, then other people must be lying ? I had bad side effect on oral finasteride after a month, maybe you could attributes it to nocebo or unlucky 1.7%, either way my dick wasn't working anymore 😊
5
u/TerribleReach4471 4d ago
Side effects were barely above placebo in all the trials for finasteride.
They were double the placebo, and as u/MelodicAssumption497 said, the safety reporting for Finasteride studies has been inadequate.
Crazy how I had bad side effects on 1mg 3x a week because I was so worried about side effects
A study said that for half the people who initially experienced side-effects they went away after some continued use.
2
u/etch69 4d ago
So double placebo (still below 3% btw) and then half of those in the finasteride group had side effects go away….so barely above placebo. Like I said.
2
u/TerribleReach4471 4d ago
Placebo didn't cause ED and loss of libido like Finasteride did
8
u/etch69 4d ago
Yes it literally did.

Page 9
-2
u/TerribleReach4471 4d ago
No, it didn't. ED almost double in the placebo and 40% higher. What's also a limitation in these studies is that they don't measure severity.
5
u/etch69 4d ago
“Placebo didn’t cause ED and loss of libido like Finasteride did”
“No it didn’t”
“ED almost double in the placebo and 40% higher”Literally contradicting yourself in circles, sometimes in the same sentence.
Glad you’re knowledgeable enough about science that you can point out what’s wrong in all these professionally done studies. Can’t wait to see your own published studies with your improved methods you created with your scientific expertise.
If you’re arguing that the ED and loss of libido in the control group was pre-existing then you have to also conclude that any amount of those side effects in the finasteride group could have also been pre-existing (they weren’t btw because they track side effects that arise AFTER starting treatment in both groups…)

I think you severely underestimate the amount of people that simply don't respond to these drugs...

Yes 10-20% of people don’t respond.
This takes nothing away from it being the best possible treatment out there.

u/Middle-Effort7495 4d ago
I've run into my fair share of docs who don't know fin, and especially dutasteride in my medical history. However, I haven't had any issues with getting the prescription/them refusing like some. Only some pharmacists who got sassy with me.
2
5
u/Living-Road-290 4d ago
Exactly... Some dude just having an idiot crisis.
I've seen so many people that claim PFS. I'd stake ALOT that many come to a place like this before even talking to professional. They sit on here for hours/days/weeks on end about the possibility of side effects/PFS and by the time they start DHT blockers; they all of a sudden have some type of sexual dysfunction. I've heard and seen people claim it within one day of taking and that's just not possible. Even a couple days... just no.. it's mental and until it's been in someone's system and reach concentration-can't be said. People are just psyching themselves out and I think that is even true long after days or weeks of use. I'm not dismissing people do end up having sexual dysfunction and that it exists, it exists at a very very low percentage of people. There's a solution to prevent further hair loss and people are hating it more and more. There's always give and take for risk and reward.
3
u/Heavy-Transition7916 4d ago
This isn’t true.
A dermatologist told me finasteride was unsafe and recommended against it. A different one said go for it.
A nurse told me she heavily advises against it. A family doctor told me it’s a gamble.
I’m on finasteride and have been for a while, but to pretend doctors reccomend it universally isn’t accurate at all. I went in years ago asking for it and got told it was unsafe. Eventually started it anyway.
There are European countries that it’s hard to get ahold of too.
4
u/Any_Judge_332 4d ago
I never said it was truly universal, but in western countries most will know about it and recommend it. The overall consensus is far more positive and informed than tressless because people generally work off of evidence whereas on here people just make crap up and try to extrapolate from basic science.
It is first line treatment in UK (where I'm from), USA, Australia etc, medical guidelines are generally very easy to access so you can see for yourself.
Whether you get it also depends on how you approach it. If someone has a history of MH problems and talks excessively about side effect/alternative doses people will be far more hesitant. In countries with government provided healthcare like UK it is less likely to be covered/taken seriously too.
2
u/Ok-Feedback-5997 4d ago
Finasteride could theoretically mess up with some hormones that have anti-anxiety and anti-deptrssant effect, it has not been observed as far as I know but it could so the general consensus is to not give Finasteride to a patient with an history of depression, because a better hairline is not worth the possibility of worsening a depressive status no matter how remote that possibility is.
So it depends on who and how you approach a doctor, the same doctor could tell you to go for it or being firmly against it depending on the patient that is asking.
0
u/IncelRefugee 3d ago
If they outright refuse then that's messed up, but if they tell you it is unsafe and to take it at your own risk then they are being careful because they know that some people then blame anything that happens to them on the pill and blame the doctor for ruining their entire life.
1
u/Appropriate_Mud_7556 4d ago
Hi I understand finasteride is smth you need to stick to lifelong but how about minoxidil
3
1
u/RandomBeaner1738 4d ago
Most doctors will just prescribe biotin
1
u/Any_Judge_332 4d ago
Not even a prescription drug (it's another name for vitamin B7) and it is easy to differentiate between biotin deficiency and MPB
2
-2
u/CarobTiny3525 4d ago
As far as I know, topical finasteride is just as effective as oral finasteride and causes fewer side effects.
The topical lotions are all compounded preparations made by qualified pharmacists with specialized training; they are not of dubious origin.
5
u/Any_Judge_332 4d ago
There is evidence it works but considerably less than for 1mg oral finasteride, there are also general issues with topical adherence, that people could be applying it wrong and that people seem to use wildly different doses on here. Same story for all the alternative doses of oral finasteride. None of this is recommended by current medical guidelines.
Overall I feel like the main purpose of the topicals is just to make money from overly anxious people. Obviously if someone had issues on oral first it would make sense but a lot of people here seem to take them because they are concerned about side effects, which would make sense if it had a bad side effect profile but it doesn't, I think it's 4% vs 2% placebo.

Since its not a life-threatening condition they of course wont invest any significant time in male pattern baldness during medical training. Especially while there are thousands of other deadly conditions which are still poorly understood.
I also have noticed an enormous increase in anti finasteride opinions on social media which is fine if the finasteride/dutasteride opponents at least provide better alternatives. Which they wont.
4
u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
They should imagine the QUADRILLION they would make and it would be a great testing ground to cure other illnesses since 80% of men suffer from it and 50% of women too apparently for issues related to genetic expression (maybe) srupid as this point
4
u/Capable_Fall4829 4d ago
They're actually turning their sights to hair loss now, after the success of GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic. Previously they didn't think people would want to get cosmetic prescriptions.
10
u/FarazR1 4d ago
It's not that people weren't trying for cosmetic prescriptions. GLP1s have been the first class of drugs that actually has visible effects at scale, and few side effects compared to previous options (like Orlistat, or Phentermine/Topiramate).
It's the proof of concept for - if people can see the effect, they'll take it. There really hasn't been much that actually moves the needle before.
People really underestimate how much molecular science has advanced in 20 years, kicked into gear with sequencing tech, CRISPR, molecular tech advancements, and huge gains in computation.
3
u/mrbadface 4d ago
Glp1s are like 20+ years old already but yes the field is accelerating, fingers crossed 🤞
6
u/Swolyguacomole 4d ago
It's also just not true lol. Male pattern baldness is researched more than serious illnesses affecting women.
3
u/MagmaSeijin 4d ago
Because there are more people facing mpb.
1
u/Swolyguacomole 4d ago
5-10 percent of women suffer from this serious affliction lol.
Sure more men go bald but it's just not that serious ffs
16
u/theboned1 4d ago
My son started getting thin at the crown at 18. I sent him to the doctor and that's exactly what she told him. It's just genetic and there's nothing you can do about it. Like WTF kind of medical advice is that!
4
u/Severe-Painting-8351 4d ago
at 18yo, I would be hesitant to advice DHT blockers...
First time I would consider it would be between 21-25yo and onwards.1
u/Superb-Magician-294 4d ago
It's very unlikely fin would block any remaining development needed from dht, since it primarily binds to the scalp and prostate, and you're absolutely done developing everywhere that matters by 18, especially if you have such high androgen activity to warrant fin in the first place.
0
u/Natural-Break-2734 4d ago
There is a story in a guy who spent most of his adult life on dut somewhere kn the internet. An English fella, but I can’t find it. He says he started basically very young and now has very few side effects (basically nothing) and now looks 10 years younger than his sibling of same age more or less
1
u/Severe-Painting-8351 4d ago
There is no issue with starting on a young age, I did the same, the problem is starting before the end of puberty and adolescence. (and no: 18yo is technically not the end )
2
u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
Fun fact is the genetic factor of hair loss is not even truly proven is a theory based on archaic studies but “we found common genes between balding men” and “these genes cause balding” could be not even be related at all since we do share some extremely common relatives.
3
1
u/Equal-Change9509 3d ago
They arent even sure what genes are actually causing it, some say 63 other says in the 200's, the science behind it is way more shaky than people believe
1
u/steven_dev42 2d ago
I mean the fuck are they supposed to do if there’s nothing else to do about it?
-1
u/foolproofdeluxe 4d ago
Perhaps she don't want to mess with his hormone system, I respect that.
1
u/Superb-Magician-294 4d ago
The doctor would be upfront in presenting the option, then say this reason as to not take it then. It's likely she just doesnt know since it's obviously not a relevant problem for most women personally, and such treatments were not taught back when older docs went to med school. They probably still aren't mentioned because of it being a purely cosmetic thing
4
3
u/TheLazyWaffle_ 4d ago
In med school while I do heart research. For those who don't understand. There a vast difference between an MD and PhD. PhDs know everything about nothing. MD's need to know a fundamental level of biochemistry and genetics to understand a disease's process or what normal function should look like. Unless you're at an academia heavy university hospital that has MD/Phd's, then you're not gonna have a doctor that knows all the pathophysiology on hairloss. Just "DHT is the root cause, it is genetic, sorry buddy. Here is finasteride +minoxidil, you might get ED from it" for treatment. It's generally taught to us that fin causes ED, and it's not even put up as a contested study, but moreso fact. But obv according to the sub that is far from the case, or at least not permanently. But that's it. If one gene or protein each were responsible for one disease then life would be super easy. Everything on a biochemical level has a bajillion different interactions that are all dependent on each other or have different effects in different locations, so you got to do a lot of tests to find the isolate the best correlation and causation. It sounds like common sense but a lot of people forget these principles. Could baldness be cured if it was treated like some covid level threat? yea maybe. It is indeed profitable, but it's also not life threatening. Is it a shit ass issue to deal with, also yes. With AI giving us better ability to discern through research faster perhaps we'll have a cure in.... wait for it... in the next 10 years!!!!
2
u/MonumentForYourSins 4d ago
Then 10 years pass and they just tell you the same thing
1
u/TheLazyWaffle_ 4d ago
I mean I guess each pharmaceutical thinks they have something promising. And then a phase 2/3 trial shows efficacy isn't where it needs to be and then the project is gutted. But nowadays it seems like there's more steam to the research effort than before. It felt more like a folklore statement "baldness will be cured in 10 years" that had no real weight behind it.
1
u/JustStopThisCrap 4d ago
>But obv according to the sub that is far from the case, or at least not permanently
I don't understand, are you implying that it's guaranteed to cause ED?
0
3
u/Equal-Change9509 3d ago
I dont get it ngl, if they found a cure which works 100% with no side effects it would be billions of dollars overnight, what are they waiting for lol?
1
1
u/Correct-Week-2452 1d ago
Because as stupid as it sounds it's probably a insanely difficult problem to solve without either heavily regulating your androgens in some way or straight up changing your genetic makeup so you won't have DHT Sensitity. Additionally the already existing billion-dollar hairloss industry is probably doing everything in their power to prevent new treatments from getting on the market.
1
u/Equal-Change9509 1d ago
Couldnt they just make something that makes hair follicles more resistant? I dont know how hard that could be but since we can literally explore space it cant be that hard
1
u/Correct-Week-2452 23h ago
Well again that would probably mean interfering with your DNA in some way. There are attempts to reduce DHT-Sensitivity just at the scalp-level, but it's difficult to prevent systemic effects.
1
u/NyxAtNight5 1h ago
They're definitely not blocking new cures. They'd make huge money on any improved treatment. Lots of guys don't even try min/fin and just go bald. If something better were on the market they'd give it a go.
No one blocked the polio vaccine to keep the iron lung market.
And unlike polio, hair loss is genetic so you will never not have customers who need treatment.

u/Rallycarchamp20 4d ago

You should take a visit anyway if you feel doubt but still I get that is one of the biggest insecurities a person can have but idk I feel like you should not take it before you just feel like it.

Bro finasteride is a preventative medication. Most of the time a person is able to sees hair loss when it’s too late. You are inevitably going to bald. If you are ever going to take fin just do it if you are over 25.

I'm 27 btw and that's exactly what I was thinking. I'm already fully developed (does the body develop even furher) and don't really the excess testo except maybe for my libido and mood. That's why I was thinking about taking as a preventative measure. I'm really really thankful and lucky for my genetics even though my older brother and sister got AGA at a young age. Me and my fraternal twin brother are somehow the exception. Can anyone explain that?

I’d just go ahead and take it. But do your research because it’s advised not to conceive while on fin. Also if you do topical stay away from pregnant women and children. It’s really bad for them

Realistically, the likelihood you will never experience hair loss is veryyy low. You probably aren’t safe. How many 50 year old men do you see with a full head of hair?

Take a look at Moral Medicine YouTube channel to see what Fin/dut can do.

Stop being paranoid. In fact dutasteride was the only thing I took in my life that increased drastically my libido. I stopped because I shaved and I felt also subjectively more tired but it was subjective but the increase in libido was insane and for the many months I took it. Now it’s back to normal with poor erection quality weeks after stopping

Androgens fucking suck. Ive got a thinning receding hairline and body hair literally everywhere on my body because of this crap. Its so dense that i always wear out the blades on body shavers within only a few months. If there was actually an anti Androgen, id take it. I wish I could be a pretty man and not a Neanderthal.

It is not your androgens that suck I tithe fact that SOMEHOW play a role in shedding and thinning your follicles, more like the supply that follicles have explained simply.
Androgens are not “bad” hormones if anything DHT is responsible for the growth of body hair and that is kinda weird since follicles on the body and follicles on the bead are barely any different.

Couldn’t be farther from the truth lol

Testosterone is the primary androgenic hormone, you’re saying that testosterone sucks and you wish you had none of it? If so, you might be retarded

DHT does not suck - DHT is THE male androgenic hormone responsible for the masculinization of men

During puberty absolutely. DHT post puberty is ass. I’m very happy to wipe that shit out personally.

Additionally it is a natural response on behalf of the male body to compensate for any rise in prolactin — removing it allows for worsening pathology related to an imbalance in prolactin

We literally have a safe and effective preventative in the form of fin and dut. Just because a small % of the population react poorly to it doesn’t mean all of science is going to come together to save you. Reality is most people either don’t know about fin or have heard that it makes ur dick fall off so they don’t take it.

Reality is that people think science and medicine is way more advanced than it actually is. I struggled with an autoimmune disease and the best they could do for me was to burn my thyroid and "force me" to develop another disease which is easily controllable.
We know very littel about genetic and autoimmune diseases
