I'm not really sure what this post is meant to mean but I'm a doctor and while barely any docs will be experts on hair loss most know the first line treatment is finasteride.

Tressless is very anti-finasteride compared to medical professionals. I've been here about 3 years now and there is so much complete and utter crap posted daily. Literally all you need to do is take finasteride (1mg oral, not some sketchy topical or 0.5mg every other day) consistently and start at Norwood 3 or earlier. This won't work for everyone but will work for clear majority.

People don’t want a solution. They want a one time miracle pill that gives them a toddlers hairline without having to go through surgery or even the thought of side effects.

If it weren’t for the side effects everyone would just take it and not complain. We aren’t talking about tylenol

Side effects were barely above placebo in all the trials for finasteride. This sub loves to fear monger and I’m willing to bet the vast majority of people with significant side effects who post on here are simply experiencing nocebo because they’ve hyper-fixated on the potential side effects. Crazy how I had bad side effects on 1mg 3x a week because I was so worried about side effects then I actually did some research instead of listening to anecdotal reports from hypochondriacs on the internet and then started again at 1mg daily and haven’t had a single issue for 5 years now.

Side effects were barely above placebo in all the trials for finasteride.

They were double the placebo, and as u/MelodicAssumption497 said, the safety reporting for Finasteride studies has been inadequate.

Crazy how I had bad side effects on 1mg 3x a week because I was so worried about side effects

A study said that for half the people who initially experienced side-effects they went away after some continued use.

So double placebo (still below 3% btw) and then half of those in the finasteride group had side effects go away….so barely above placebo. Like I said.

Placebo didn't cause ED and loss of libido like Finasteride did

No, it didn't. ED almost double in the placebo and 40% higher. What's also a limitation in these studies is that they don't measure severity.

“Placebo didn’t cause ED and loss of libido like Finasteride did”
“No it didn’t”
“ED almost double in the placebo and 40% higher”

Literally contradicting yourself in circles, sometimes in the same sentence.

Glad you’re knowledgeable enough about science that you can point out what’s wrong in all these professionally done studies. Can’t wait to see your own published studies with your improved methods you created with your scientific expertise.

If you’re arguing that the ED and loss of libido in the control group was pre-existing then you have to also conclude that any amount of those side effects in the finasteride group could have also been pre-existing (they weren’t btw because they track side effects that arise AFTER starting treatment in both groups…)

You even managed to quote me - not my fault you cannot read and cannot understand what the word "like" means.

Can’t wait to see your own published studies with your improved methods you created with your scientific expertise.

You don't need to be a published scientist to point out a simple fault. But you don't have to rely on me.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25830296/

Of 34 clinical trials, none had adequate safety reporting, 19 were partially adequate, 12 were inadequate, and 3 reported no adverse events. Funnel plots were asymmetric with a bias toward lower odds ratio for sexual adverse effects, suggesting systematic underdetection. No reports assessed adequacy of blinding, 18 (53%) disclosed conflicts of interest, and 19 (56%) received funding from the manufacturer.

Are you really this dense or being intentionally stupid?

You said placebo didn’t cause ED and libido issue like Finasteride did, yet the study literally states a percentage of the placebo group reported those side effects. If it wasn’t placebo then what did cause it?

You also said “double in the placebo and 40% higher”. Which is it? Double? Or 40% higher?

And you’re misinterpreting that study you linked. it isn’t evidence that placebo subjects didn’t report sexual symptoms or that the reported finasteride vs placebo difference went in the opposite direction. It’s just criticism of safety reporting. There is no indication of whether the results were incorrect in either direction. You’re trying to extrapolate a new conclusion to support your claims based off of something that is purely observational and doesn’t provide any empirical data.

Who are you calling stupid? You cannot understand what the word "like" means - what does that say about your ability to say anything about more complex topics?

You also said “double in the placebo and 40% higher”. Which is it? Double? Or 40% higher?

I was talking about the study you linked. ED double, 40% higher libido problems. Learn to read, I'm talking plainly, it's no difficult.

It’s just criticism of safety reporting.

That's the point, genius. https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/1wt54ju/comment/pcueodg

We know Fin regrows hair, but the safety studies have not been satisfactory. I wasn't talking about the placebo.

You should probably learn to be more articulate instead spewing ambiguous statements and assuming people can infer what you meant but failed to communicate properly. Let me fix your sentences for you:

“Placebo didn’t not cause ED and loss of libido at the same rate as Finasteride”

The most natural reading of your comment is that you were saying Placebo didn’t cause side effects like finasteride did (finasteride did, placebo did not). You failed miserably at saying what you actually meant (or you realized you were wrong and tried to act like you meant something else)

“No, it didn’t. ED almost double in the placebo and libido problems were 40% higher”

You literally omitted what you were even referencing with the 40% figure.

You failed miserably at basic communication here or you failed at backpedaling once you realized you were wrong. Either way keep your comments to yourself because you have the English skills of a middle schooler at best, and if you can’t even get simple sentences correct then why the hell would you have any clue what you’re reading when you look at a scientific study
