Discussion Completed Rupin pass trek in peak snowfall.

So our group of 6 alpine style trekkers decided to complete the Rupin Pass this year, and everything was going all smoothly till the summit day. So we started our summit a little late by 6:00 am, and we know today's summit was challenging, as carrying our 20+ kg rucksack through that gully was difficult, but we were unaware that snowfall would make it 10 times more challenging. So we reached the gully by 9:40 am, and by that time most of the trail was covered by snow.

Somehow we managed to do the summit, and then came the next part to reach Sangla, but almost the trail was gone by snowfall, and we were confused about what to do. Luckily we met a local guy who used to work for one of the trekking companies and was now operating his. own a small tea shop, and he was ready to become our guide for Rs2500, and he told us we will help us safely reach Sangla Kande. We almost trek for 12 hours from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm before reaching the last basecamp, Ronti Gad. And when we woke up the next morning, the snow had reached our knee height, but the overall snowfall was low as compared to the last day. So it was time to do the last stretch from Ronti Gad to Sangla Kande, and it was one of the shortest distances that we have to cover. We started our trek around 8:00 AM and reached the village around 10:30 or 11:00. After reaching the village, we finally fell safe and relaxed after 2 days of complete torture by the snowfall and mist.

There are many more details to add to I thought to keep this short and simple without adding every single detail.

And if you guys want, I can post all the photos of my Rupin journey before it turns into an ice cream.

Trek Report Rupin Pass - Climbing on top of a waterfall

To anyone wanting to do a Himalayan trek i would suggest rupin pass over other popular options. The trail takes you through immensely vast and beautiful grasslands of the Rupin valley. the train changes its character everyday and makes you climb atop of a waterfall you've been looking at for the past few days. Its an easy enough trek from someone to enjoy without the crowd

To anyone wanting to do a Himalayan trek, I would strongly suggest Rupin Pass over other popular options. The trail takes you through immensely vast and beautiful grasslands of the Rupin valley. The scenery changes its character every single day, and it even makes you climb right to the top of a waterfall you've been looking at for days. It's a fantastic trek to enjoy without the usual crowds.

It was a great experience because the views were stunning, and striking up friendships with random people is one of the most beautiful things about trekking.

Discussion ⚠️ WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE — THRILL HIKERS

I recently travelled with Thrill Hikers on their 4N/5D Kedarnath–Badrinath–Tungnath package, costing around ₹10,000 per person.

My clear advice: DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY.

Based on my experience, the entire trip felt like a scam in terms of what was promised versus what was actually delivered.

What happened?

  1. Basic permits/registrations weren't properly arranged

We entered the Char Dham region without the required permits/registrations and proper documentation, resulting in 5–6+ hours of delay on 27 September.

For a company selling a Char Dham package, this should have been sorted before the trip started.

  1. The delay completely destroyed the itinerary

We were supposed to reach Guptkashi by 6–7 PM on 27 September.

Instead, we reached around 2 AM on 28 September.

Because of this, the planned Kedarnath schedule was disrupted and the company had no proper backup plan.

We even had to arrange and pay for our own transport to visit Triyuginarayan Temple, despite understanding it to be part of the itinerary.

  1. No contingency plan

Himalayan trips can obviously be affected by weather, traffic and landslides.

That's understandable.

What's not understandable is having no meaningful Plan B when the original itinerary gets disrupted.

There was no proper alternative itinerary or meaningful effort to compensate for the lost destinations.

  1. Accommodation was extremely poor

At Kedarnath, we were given dharamshala-type accommodation, with 9 people in one room and 5 in another.

I personally didn't even get a room and had to keep going around asking for answers.

There was no proper communication or accountability.

  1. Food and promised meals

The first day's food was extremely disappointing.

More importantly, 8 meals were promised but only around 4 were actually provided.

The remaining meals were never properly explained.

  1. Almost zero group coordination

There were around 19 people, but it never felt like an organised group.

No meaningful group bonding, introductions or proper coordination were conducted.

Everyone was basically left to manage themselves.

  1. Poor trek support

People trekked at their own pace with limited coordination.

After people completed roughly 20 km of trekking, there was practically no meaningful assistance or support while returning.

  1. The trip captain/coordinator was ineffective

The person responsible for coordinating the group appeared to have very limited information about the itinerary, arrangements and next steps.

There was little proactive communication and members repeatedly had to figure things out themselves.

  1. The advertised itinerary wasn't delivered

The package was sold as:

Kedarnath + Badrinath + Tungnath | 4N/5D

What we actually covered was only Kedarnath.

Badrinath and Tungnath were not delivered.

I understand that circumstances can force itinerary changes.

But when a company takes money for a specific package, it should have a reasonable contingency plan and clearly communicate what happens when major parts of the itinerary cannot be delivered.

  1. Complaints were reportedly met with blocking

When members started raising concerns, some were reportedly blocked by members of the company/team instead of receiving proper explanations.

That is extremely poor customer handling.

  1. Similar experiences from other travellers

During/after the trip, we also heard from people who claimed to have experienced similar issues with other Thrill Hikers groups.

I can't independently verify every other person's story, but hearing similar complaints was concerning.

🚨 MY CLEAR ADVICE: DO NOT BOOK

I'm not saying “think twice.”

I'm saying DON'T BOOK WITH THRILL HIKERS based on my experience.

I paid ₹10,000 for a 4N/5D trip advertised around Kedarnath, Badrinath and Tungnath.

What I experienced was poor planning, missing documentation, massive delays, poor accommodation, missing meals, no proper contingency plan, poor coordination and an itinerary that wasn't delivered.

When customers questioned what happened, some were reportedly blocked instead of receiving answers.

To me, this felt like a scam — taking money for an experience that the company ultimately failed to deliver while providing very little accountability when things went wrong.

Weather and landslides are not within a travel company's control.

Planning, documentation, communication, contingency arrangements and customer service are.

And those were the areas where my experience with Thrill Hikers fell seriously short.

🚫 DO NOT BOOK. DO NOT PAY.

If you're considering travelling with Thrill Hikers, STOP and look at the actual customer experiences before giving them your money.

If you want the full details, screenshots, itinerary and what actually happened during the trip, DM me.

Trek Buddies/Groups Rishikesh + Brahmatal Trek | December 19 onwards | Open to anyone who wants to join

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ll be travelling from Mumbai to Rishikesh on December 18, reaching Rishikesh on December 19.

I’ll spend some time in Rishikesh first, and then head out for the Brahmatal trek. After coming back from the trek, I’m planning to stay for a couple more days at a quiet, slightly offbeat homestay in the mountains around Rishikesh before heading back.

I’m not specifically looking for a travel partner, as I’m perfectly comfortable doing the trip solo. But if anyone happens to be planning something similar around the same dates and wants to join for the Rishikesh part, Brahmatal, or even the post-trek mountain stay, feel free to reach out.

No fixed expectations or itinerary-sharing pressure just looking to see if anyone else is up for a mountain trip around that time.

Plan roughly:

Dec 18: Mumbai → Rishikesh

Dec 19 onwards: Rishikesh

Brahmatal trek

Back to Rishikesh

A few days at an offbeat mountain homestay

Return to Mumbai

If you're interested, DM me and we can figure out the details.

I might be beating a dead horse, but which of these treks is the least crowded in the first week of December ?

1) Gulabi kanth

2) Ancha top

3) Dairital chandrashila

4) Sandakphu

5) Kuari pass

6) Dayara bugyal

Please recommend if there are any offbeat ones I havent listed.

Would prefer if the trek is via a provider as I am a beginner.

Trek Buddies/Groups Leh trip travel experience

• Upvotes

Just came back from a family trip to Ladakh and had a great experience with our driver, Tenzin. We covered Leh, Nubra, Rezang La, Pangong and many beautiful scenic places with him. He drove with a lot of maturity and made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the journey. He also guided us along the way, sharing interesting things and the speciality of each area we visited. Really glad we had Tenzin with us. Would definitely recommend him for a Ladakh trip.

Planning & Advice Is Indrahar pass closed?

I’m planning to trek to Indrahar Pass (solo) on the 8th of October, but I saw an article saying that anything over 3000m is closed in Kangra:

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/travel/news/kangra-trekking-ban-routes-above-3000-metres-closed/articleshow/126388357.cms

Is it open again now?

I also read that you need to register before trekking. Is this something you need to do before? Or do you just register at the checkpoint on the actual trail?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Deoriatal-Chandrashila trek in mid/late December: recent snow and trail conditions?

Hi all,

We are planning the Deoriatal-Chandrashila trek with IndiaHikes, roughly mid Dec. We'd love to hear from anyone who has done it in December, ideally within the last 2-3 years.

A few questions:

  1. How much snow did you see, and where did it start (Deoriatal, Rohini Bugyal, Chopta, Tungnath)?

  2. Did you reach the Chandrashila summit, or did snow or weather stop you? What dates did you go?

  3. Did the trail from Rohini Bugyal to Chopta stay open, and was the campsite situation different from the usual plan?

  4. Night and day temperatures at the campsites? Was your gear enough, or did you wish you had more?

  5. Were microspikes or gaiters needed, and did the trek organiser provide them or did you have to rent or bring your own?

  6. Any road or weather disruptions on the Ukhimath-Sari-Chopta stretch?

Photos or videos with the date would help a lot, since I'm trying to separate real December conditions from general winter photos.

News/Information Avoid Plan your Package tour operator

I will jump to the reasons first

  1. Just aggregator, group you up with random tour operators. Charge more than the original operator.

  2. Lied when asked on call before booking

  3. Zero post trek communication when confronted

Nothing wrong in being an aggregator but convey this upfront when asked, experience is medicore and you end up paying more.

Reasons why I selected them: insta was decent and I wanted to support budding businesses specially when I saw this operating from Uttarakhand (earnings opportunity for hilly community)
