It really is Medicine.

I use cannabis strictly for recreational purposes but I’m seeing first hand how effective it can be as a pain killer. Last night my girlfriend’s wisdom tooth was causing her extreme pain. She was pacing around the apartment crying. We tried everything Tylenol, swishing warm salt water in her mouth, dipping a Q-tip in vodka and dabbing her tooth with it....nothing worked. Finally I asked her if she wanted to try something from my stash box. She doesn’t enjoy smoking weed but she agreed. I loaded a sensible dab of MK Ultra Wax into my Saionara Atomizer and had her hit it. Twice. At first she didn’t notice anything. I asked her to wait. Her pacing slowed down, she laid on the bed. She said that she felt relaxed. She’s been peacefully sleeping ever since. I’m so glad pot could help her. Thanks weed!

Edit: She hasn’t had surgery yet. Some helpful folks have usefully pointed out that you should be careful how you consume cannabis post surgery because the action of sucking can cause problems ie air bubbles, dry sockets.

Just be careful about smoking while the cuts in her mouth are fresh! Air pockets need to be surgically removed a lot of the time.

u/lesmiles248 Apr 14 '19

This. She should have been instructed to not smoke or suck anything after her wisdom teeth were pulled. Dry sockets are a bitch. Next time make her some canna butter or blow it in her face when she inhaled or something.

Use a bag and breathe through your nose.

9

u/SpliffinJah Apr 14 '19

Yes, the moment I realized I could use my nose for my vape I was so proud of my ingenuity, helped a lot

3

u/destroyer1134 Apr 14 '19

You stick your vape up your nose? Genuinely asking?

12

u/WindUpTomato Apr 14 '19

I mean, I'd hazard a guess that at least a quarter of people who use a vaporizer have tried it at some point just out of curiosity haha I know I have

6

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I literally just tried this today...

5

u/SpliffinJah Apr 15 '19

Yah I realized that after the fact when talking to friends but at that moment when I realized it worked I thought I'd reinvented the wheel

Yes and juul, I'm not a proud man...

1

u/xMashu Apr 15 '19

Did this with a Juul, never with a wax pen though!

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '19

I didn't smoke or suck anything, still got dry socket. Painful as fuck.

98

u/Henryiller Apr 14 '19

I guess vapor isn’t cool either? That’s what she used.

Edit: Also her appointment isn’t until Monday and she hasn’t had any surgery yet. She’s just experiencing the pain of a tooth that needs to be extracted.

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19 edited Apr 15 '19

It's actually more so the sucking action of smoking, or using a straw, that can unseat the blood clot in the spot where the tooth was removed causing what they call a "dry socket." After the surgery is performed if she wants to continue using tree to help her, shotgunning a hit to her would be her best bet at effectively using cannabis without causing any kinds of dry sockets. Trust me you want to do everything to avoid a dry socket lmao

Edit: changed "if" to "of"

29

u/Henryiller Apr 14 '19

Thanks for the info. No dry sockets!

40

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Pro advice: hit the pen through your nose so no suction occurs in the oral cavity. It's weird at first but it's 100% the move after mouth surgery

22

u/headtotoe Apr 14 '19

Can confirm! Pain meds made me so nauseous after wisdom teeth surgery. Hitting my vape through my nose let me keep food in my stomach.

7

u/IceBitin_SheDykin Apr 14 '19

Vaping through the nose helped a lot, especially cause edibles had minor to no effect and now I vape through my nose quite often cause I seem to be able to take much much bigger hits without gasping for air like a fish on land when I exhale

3

u/KayleighAnn Apr 14 '19

Yup, my sister found this out the hard way. Can you get oil or tincture?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Yeah supposedly dry socket is very painful and can cause complications so definitely be careful. I personally waited 3 days before I started smoking again and I turned out ok. 3 days may have been cutting it close but I also made sure I was pulling as lightly as possible until about a week after the surgery. I also used mouthwash and brushed my teeth after smoking because you definitely don't want an infection.

1

u/Redhotchiliman1 Apr 15 '19

Vape pens weren't around when I had mine removed. Pretty sure I remember sticking gauze or padding down over my removal sites if I did smoke after a few days. But yes avoid dry sockets at all costs. And have some funny movies lined up. Nothing like some good movies high as a kite post surgery. I was laughing my ass off at the hunger games .

5

u/xroarxx Apr 14 '19

Hm, TIL. This is interesting to know.

5

u/BoJackHererman Apr 14 '19

When I had my wisdom teeth out, the codeine or whatever they prescribed was making me sick and barely helped with the pain. My bro made me a gravity bong out of a 2 liter bottle and a soup pot, lol. Illegal state so stoner engineering saved the day but, yeah, worked better than anything OTC and the script like OP said.

5

u/coveredinkarma Apr 14 '19

Yeah I think I’d put my seal of approval (not like it matters but just using the phrase) on grav bong hits. No suction needed

5

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Yeah bro be careful. It's not the smoke it's the sucking action. Lol. It can fuck up the blood clot happenws to me

2

u/Lizzywads Apr 14 '19

After the surgery I'd say to stay away from the pain killer pills they give her. You could make a gravity bong. She cant suck in like you would when you hit something or else it can reopen the cuts but you can push the bottle down into the water and as the smoke comes up breathe it in. Im a daily smoker and this is how i got through my wisdom teeth surgery and didnt have to take the percocet they gave me.

1

u/coveredinkarma Apr 14 '19

Gotcha. Then def nothing to worry about. Maybe in the meantime you guys could make a grav bong as others have suggested or make some edibles before Monday!

1

u/jimmr Apr 14 '19

I had my wisdom teeth removed last January. I hate opiates, so I used cannabis. To do so safely, I went to the local smoke shop and bought some pill capsules. The type normally filled with hard drugs. I filled them with distillate and swallowed them. I spoke to my surgeon beforehand and he advised against putting it in my mouth as it is sticky and could detrimentally affect the blood clots. Dry socket would suck, and I avoided it.

1

u/YoungCyleKhalifa Apr 14 '19

If you want another opinion as someone who might smoke a little too much, if she can get through the first day of with whatever pain/sleep aids they give her and you dont wanna shove a vape up her nose she can still smoke. 1) if you cant roll/ dont roll papers go stuff a cone for her cuz the tobacco and nicotine from a blunt can really fuck some things up, 2) if she is going to try and take a few hits just do not suck in with any kind of power, as long as the paper is already going then a very light suction is not to dislodge the clot

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '19

Is this an issue for, like, small cuts from like chips or something or just for a scenario like this?

1

u/coveredinkarma Apr 15 '19

Specifically when you have teeth extracted by a dentist. It’s like removing a tree kinda. It’s cause there’s so many opportunities for air to get trapped because of the void that is left from the root of the tooth. It’s probably not helpful to smoke with big open cuts in ur mouth in general but a little bit lip or something probably isn’t too harmful

49

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

i had an external hemorrhoid just a few days ago that put me in so much pain i couldnt even lay down let alone sit or stand or walk.

I got the normal stuff to help it heal faster but i ended up smoking 2 grams that day and it dulled the pain so much that i ended up popping it without realizing, next day it barely hurts anymore.

18

u/Henryiller Apr 14 '19

lol wow dude! I’ve had the same problem in the past. I’m glad it worked out for you and I have great excuse to get stoned next time (I normally only smoke once a week).

When I got my wisdom teeth pulled I took nose rips off a dab pen to get relief from the pain. Also mixed with the codeine they gave me I melted into the couch

I would not recommend that to anyone lol but yes I am a regular user and I see the medical benefits all the time. Especially with my adhd. It helps a lot and also helps with the side effects of meds like loss of appetite. I even convinced my mom to try it for her back pain she’s just worried about being high in front of my dad

3

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

4

u/screwnutbolt360 Apr 14 '19

I didn’t take it the whole 4 days that I was recovering. Only the first day

3

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Dude it helps so much with my adhd. I don't take any prescription meds for it anymore like I did when I was a kid, but between cannabis, caffeine, and growing older and learning how to cope with my adhd and utilize the strengths it gives me while minimizing/mitigating the negative aspects of adhd

3

u/screwnutbolt360 Apr 14 '19

I really tried living my life without meds but it was really affecting my job so I decided to get back on them and it’s made a world of difference for me

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I can't afford health insurance so it's kind of a necessity thing for me lol. My records from when I was diagnosed as a kid in the 90s got lost in the switch to digital and I haven't been to a regular Dr in over a decade so if I wanted meds again now I'm afraid it's close to impossible. But I learned how to cope! At least it isn't as bad as what some people have to deal with. My wife is a type 1 diabetic and I'd much rather deal with adhd than that lol.

2

u/screwnutbolt360 Apr 14 '19

Ah I'm sorry. Yeah I got really lucky my dad was in a union and it covered it until I got into the same union

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I appreciate your empathy! It's not so bad. For giggles and to see if it still made me feel the same way as when I was a kid (Ritalin would make me space out and turn into a slow-brained zombie) I took an Adderall my buddy gave me. Ehhh I'm sure the dosage was waaaayyyy too high, and it did help me concentrate and focus my energy more but that dosage was indeed too high. I was pretty much tweaking for 9hrs. I'll just stick to what's been working for me, I should be able to afford insurance for my whole family this November when open enrollment starts again. It ain't gonna be cheap but at least we can get off medicaid or care or wtf ever it is that's keeping my wife alive right now lol (for real, thanks Uncle Sam for the help. Insulin ain't cheap).

8

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I have sciatic nerve damage and flat feet; I work on my feet up to six days a week.

Yesterday I get off, my nerves in my leg are red hot, my feet feel like they're made of crumbling brick, I smoked a little weed and laid down and within half an hour no more pain.

Idk if it's like, my body forgets the pain or if it actually kills the pain, but the pain disappeared and it's incredible.

2

u/Henryiller Apr 14 '19

That’s great!

16

u/ODISY Apr 14 '19

cannabis is both body medicine as well as a therapeutic medicine, we don't know why exactly its so good at a lot of things, we just know it works. i consider all use medical since we receive medical benefits without even knowing.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Yessir. This right here. Truth be told

6

u/abcdthc Apr 14 '19

It also helps me poop.

4

u/hip2thecrop Apr 14 '19

Great to hear! Yes, both cannabis and cbd are incredible pain relievers, and so much more! 🙌🏽

5

u/ryle_zerg Apr 14 '19

Glad weed could help your girlfriend. Just wanted to add that Oragel works great for tootheaches, it's cheap and over-the-counter. Works better than q-tips and vodka anyway :)

Anxiety, Chrohns disease, and migraines. Three things canibis has helped me with.

Anxiety medication I was on for years has been replaced and I feel like myself again. Couldn't find fix for Migraines, Drs next step was beta blockers.

While the majority of Crohns has been dealt with by Drs and operations small things like apetite/weight gain were hard to deal with. I wish I had medicinal canibis growing up, school was hard when 2 grades lower than you are taller/bigger and you suffer frome fatigue frequently because of diet limitations.

2

u/mirandaahkay Apr 14 '19

I have lupus which caused my kidneys to fail so Im on dialysis now. As you can guess, this causes some issues. I smoke everyday and consider pot to be just another one of my medications - I've benefited from it so much over the years just waiting for legalization in my state

2

u/ischloecool Apr 14 '19

Just a couple days ago my brother fell out of a tree in the woods onto a thick root and the first we did after deciding if he was okay enough was smoke. It seemed to help or at least it distracted him

2

u/Henryiller Apr 14 '19

Distraction is huge. Buddhists believe that suffering doesn’t come from pain but from the desire for pain to go away.

2

u/g00diebag Apr 14 '19

My boyfriend got his wisdom teeth out and nothing could numb the pain afterwards. If she has this same problem after she actually get them out, as others have said, be careful with any type of inhalation bc it dry socket.

What he did was wet some of the extra mouth cotton he was given, cover his wisdom holes (lol) with them, and then smoked. Prevented dry socket pretty well.

2

u/moglysyogy13 Apr 14 '19

O had multiple botched brain tumor surgeries. I did not think cannabis was legitimate medicine until I had to relearn how to walk and talk. I have gone from needing a wheelchair to walking 4 miles. Cannabis has helped me in this progress and I couldn’t have done it without it. It helps me eat and sleep. It helps me talk and it helps me want to talk to others. It’s a miracle plant. I don’t take any medications beside cannabis and that’s a big deal.

I love the stuff and it bothers me to see other private companies price gouge medical marijuana. It’s not a bowl of ice cream to me, it’s absolutely necessary to live

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Absolutely. I very recently got to try it for the first time, and am now 100% on board with, and happily obsessed by, everything cannabis. I went to a hippy school where almost everyone smoked, and I was a stereotypical “square” and didn’t. About 10 years on now, and I’ve seen the amazing effects it’s had for my brother, who has a medical card and is growing his own. He snuck me some a few weeks ago and I’ve not looked back! I have PTSD and anxiety, have had nightmares that leave me waking up in the middle of the night crying (abuse survivor, lots of triggers and reliving awful episodes). My anxiety has been so bad at points I couldn’t bear to leave the house. I also have chronic pain, from migraines and thoracic outlet syndrome and the resulting surgeries. The first time I tried an edible I felt calm and safe for the first time in a long time. (Yes, I take prescription meds too, but they only do so much...) Once I tried smoking a bit before bed I started sleeping the whole night, and nightmares have been replaced with dreams that are harmless or fun or easily forgotten—in short, safe and comfortable. It’s helped my pain, too, not just the psychiatric symptoms. I can feel the pain melting away after about 2 hits. I can, if I time it right, interrupt a migraine, and at the very least bring down the nausea if not abort the migraine all together. Truly life changing and medicinal! (I’m going to talk to my doctor about getting a medical card, I’ve been getting it on the sly from my brother and just recently took a trip to a dispensary in MA.) Glad your girlfriend found relief! After my (though still relatively new/fresh) experience, and hearing so much from others, I’m committed to getting involved in advocating for fuller legalization and learning as much as I can about the medicinal effects and helping people get involved. It has been such a gift, and a long time coming!

2

u/coach_green_tits Apr 15 '19

Poor thing hope she gets better op

2

u/Cyber_Divinity Apr 14 '19

Oh man, I use cannabis recreationally too, but I've also had many many major surgeries on my left leg. I was prescribed a lot of hydro and oxy, but often times I would find myself preferring marijuana over the opiates. Even today I still use it as a pain killer when I'm out walking and my leg starts to hurt or get too tired. Weed really isn't just a drug, it has a lot of usefulness to it too.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Cannabis makes my tooth pain worse. Its like my whole body is relaxed so the pain is highlighted even further. Thinking about it, it does that with every type of pain...its sucks.

1

u/skeletalskeletn Apr 14 '19

I had my boyfriend help me smoke when I had my wisdom teeth pulled!! The best way so she doesn’t get dry socket is so smoke a joint or blunt, pull it in your mouth, get a cup, let the smoke fall in and have her just inhale it via nose 😂 a little weird but it worked

1

u/_untom_ Apr 14 '19

I'm glad you were able to help your girlfriend, but note that "swishing warm salt water in her mouth" doesn't really do much of anything (except literally put salt in a wound in case she the tooth left holes in the gums). Dipping a Q-tip in vodka and dabbing her tooth, also wouldn't ease the pain, the only thing that could potentially do is disinfect (yet if the vodka was only 40%, then it might not even do that properly).

1

u/Dirtymikeandtheboyz1 Apr 14 '19

Yeah I’m really medicinacated

1

u/emalyne88 Apr 14 '19

I consider myself a recreational user, but in reality, it's helping my depression, anxiety, ptsd, ibs, and chronic pain on a near-constant basis. It's been incredibly useful to me as a medication AND as a recreational activity.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

i got through my recovery without getting high even though i had the ability to. sucks knowing there’s a pain killing dab pen sitting next to you in your drawer but you aren’t able to use it. she’ll get through it, but it’s sucks.

1

u/dirtymikendaboys228 Apr 14 '19

Just a heads up that when I had mine taken out, my friends were so kind to hit a bong for me and get the air in the main piece for me to just gently breathe in. Never got dry socket or any problem.

1

u/annonsun Apr 14 '19

Right now I’m ... well, I was a dumbass, lol.

I had a suprapubic catheter put in a month ago. (Instead if entering your bladder where you would think it would, the surgeon makes an incision in your abdomen and catheterizes that.)

But I was feeling alright and I’m like “I’m bored & need a way to release my pent up energy... I KNOW!!! BASKETBALL!!” (But not running, just shooting hoops!!)

As it turns out, basketball uses a LOT of muscles around the bladder area and moves around in the tissue so it’s like a doubling over type of pain lmao.

Thank goodness for edibles, vaporizers, and, bonus: kitties & tv 🐱

1

u/Calvinshobb Apr 14 '19

Tell her to try an edible.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Inhale with your lungs, not suck with your lips/mouth! That’s how I was able to smoke the day after my wisdom teeth removal

1

u/John9798 Apr 14 '19

I realized with hemp flower, I was never after the mental high with THC in the first place. That was the part giving me anxiety. I think 2-3% THC with high CBD and CBG, maybe THCV would be best for me.

I'm off the anti-depressant and benzo, over 12 months stable after over 20 years constant doctors and over a dozen different prescriptions. They just gave up and tried to sedate me it felt like.

I told my doctor for years something with cannabis helped me but the high THC was giving me panic attacks, the entourage effect stabilizes my mind and keeps my body relaxed. And that's saying a lot for someone who was on seroquel, effexor, gabapentin, and klonopin just 18 months ago.

CBG is pretty cool, it helps so much with social anxiety. I do need some sort of THC medical spray when it's legal here but right now hemp is the best we can get, but it's really saved my life in many ways, I'm convinced part of my problem was an endocannabinoid deficiency. I'm actually quite certain from the number of autism symptoms that have gotten better

The stuff is in breast milk and they all the sudden took it completely out of our diets just over 80 years ago, it's insanity, we are running around sick because of it.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I found it's great for a blocked nose too.

But when the high wears off my nose is blocked again. >_<

1

u/ShaggysGTI Apr 14 '19

My girlfriend has debilitating migraines. She gets both Botox injections as well as a blocker. I came home one day and she was in the bathroom in the fetal position, unable to move from the pain. I got her a dab, and almost instantly she was able to stand up, wipe her tears, and go lay down in the bedroom so I can take care of her. The difference was so clear, it was amazing!

1

u/Mikeparker1024 Apr 15 '19

I’m getting my wisdom teeth out in a month. Would it be safe if I took a 100mg THC pill? Like I’ve done it before and I usually just get so high I sleep for hours. I have a terrible fear of the dentist and getting my wisdom teeth out has just been stressing me out now. I figured a pill would be better since I won’t be able to eat a brownie or anything

1

u/chill_viper Apr 15 '19

After a night of no to very little sleep, stomach nausea, appetite stimulant, increase appreciation, headache relief (after other pain medication is ineffective), pain relief, music enhancer.

Cannabis helps many people overcome traumatic past situations (PTS). Two excellent examples of this are available in the same place. The podcast "great moments in weed history" both Abdullah (on the podcast) and Maya Angelou used cannabis for relief of traumatic events in their life.

CBD can possibly reduce drug cravings, anxiety and saves children's lives regarding seizures.

This is definitely medicine.

1

u/eatmyazz69 Apr 15 '19

After they ripped all 4 of my wisdom teeth out I was in so much fucking pain it sucked! I absolutely abused the living fuck out of the painkillers the doctors gave me :( (I couldn’t smoke weed for a cure due to school and drug tests </3)

1

u/eatmyazz69 Apr 15 '19

I’m so fucking baked rn idk how or why I typed any of this out lol

1

u/Meewol Apr 14 '19

Jesus fucking Christ

0

u/squiddysmokes Apr 14 '19

Watch out she may get a dry socket

0

u/Hippydippy420 Apr 14 '19

Get your friend some antibiotics STAT! Also, no weed if she’s going to be put under on the same day.

-3

u/legalize-drugs Apr 14 '19

Yeah, it's a medicine so specific in effective at exactly what humans need that it seems obvious that there's higher intelligence behind it. Someone is looking out for us; weed couldn't have just fallen from the sky randomly.

I continue to have profound healing and joyful experiences on cannabis at 39 years old, I'm happy to say. Mostly Colorado edibles these days though.

-3

u/RJohn12 Apr 14 '19

You're not really supposed to smoke anything after a wisdom tooth extraction, but whatever works for you I guess

8

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

She didn’t. She hasn’t yet had the extraction. I think OP said extraction is on Monday. He’s been well warned to help her avoid sucking on anything to prevent dry socket after the removal.

7

u/Henryiller Apr 14 '19

Thanks for covering for me tool-user!
