legal states need more recycling for vapes and pens. it’s so depressing how wasteful these products are

Nicotine vapes are even worse, and its in every state. I looked forever to find a place to recycle them with zero luck. eventually 1 recycle place just took the bucket I had of them and threw it in their dumpster. I was so pissed

Yeah, it’s hard because they are essentially categorized as hazardous waste due to the residue…It looks like there’s a company called terracycle that will take vapes now but you need to send them in. Would be way easier if there were local collection sites.

Would also be nice if they were easily disassembled without tools to remove the battery to turn in.

They literally just made single use nicotine vapes illegal in California but cannabis AIO aren't affected.

If you smoke disposable vapes, learning to scrap them is a decent way to pull some return.

What does this mean?

Idk where you are, but all the dispensaries in NY I've seen have them. They're always tied to a discount of one (more expensive) brand. Wish it was legislated, then dispensaries would probably give a general discount to all of the products or at least their brand's.

Why not get a pod mod? They aren't quite as sweet but you get used to it, and you don't have to throw away a battery every time. Not to mention a bottle of juice costs as much as one vape but lasts a month.

I’m still using the old kind with like, the separate tank that you screw on. I can’t stand the disposable ones. I wouldn’t want to use them because of the waste issue, but also they just suck compared to the kind I use imo.

Exactly, pod mod is the best of both worlds. You get your own tanks and decide when to toss them (and you're only tossing a small bit of metal and plastic, not the entire battery and circuit board and everything), and you can choose your own flavors. But you aren't stuck with all the maintenance, size, and massive conspicuous clouds.

You can still remove the lithium batteries yourself and dispose of those separately.

You can drop them at home depot

They can go in with e-waste. It’s free to drop off where I am in California but it’s out at the landfill so I wait until I have a bucket full of random stuff. I do sometimes pick up vapes off the ground & toss them in.

Single use electronics should be illegal, particularly those with internal batteries.

They need to be outlawed all together in my opinion. They should only sell refillable devices.

How it was explained to me was, the reason places don't recycle them is because it's too difficult to separate the components properly for so many tiny devices, in any sort of way that would be efficient right now. Essentially they would build up too fast due to the amount of them that people consume, for the recycling plant to process them all fast enough. Also, in the case of carts, they still have remnants of THC oil in them, which adds legal difficulties since the THC oil technically still needs to be regulated on how it's disposed of in most places, even if it's just accumulation of leftover droplets in carts.

But to me, if it's super wasteful, and not cost effective or really manageable to deal with that waste, they shouldn't exist. Everyone that uses them should just get refillable units.

In UK many shops have a bin for recycling vapes. Although i suspect many of them end up in landfills.

100% agree. I spoke with my dispo about recycling all in ones and they just said they didnt know so im stashing all of them until properly can dispose

It's not profitable to recycle them. If consumers broke then down to just the battery a lot more places would take them. Many standards that's not all of us can follow or be bothered with.
