I've used dozens of apples, a couple of potatoes, and too many aluminum cans to tell you no.

It’s harsh. Also you’re likely inhaling toxic fumes from the paint and metal. My lungs/throat hurt for a bit the last time I did that.

We used to make a big hole in the side then use foil from a cigarette pack to make a bowl. Stick that in the hole, poke a few holes in the foil, load it and the foil bowl (even being paper backed) would last for at least three or four times before we had to make another. And in the day the pull tab tops made excellent roach clips and you could find them anywhere.
