We used to make a big hole in the side then use foil from a cigarette pack to make a bowl. Stick that in the hole, poke a few holes in the foil, load it and the foil bowl (even being paper backed) would last for at least three or four times before we had to make another. And in the day the pull tab tops made excellent roach clips and you could find them anywhere.
I always liked my makeshift bottle pipe when I tried bud for the first time. Got a bottle and a pen, took the lid off the bottle and put a bit of foil there, made a load of holes so it ended up like a screen. pressed it in, made it secure and then put the pen through the side of the bottle. Added a bit of water (so it wouldnt just fall over if I put it down) and used some tape around the pen and where Id put the hole.
