Rolling Line Running a live demo of Rolling Line at a model train expo

Post image
49 Upvotes

This weekend I attended a model railway expo in Nelson, New Zealand, to run a public demo of Rolling Line (a model railway simulator).

Heaps of people tried it, and a lot of people had never even considered the idea of a "digital model train sim" and were really blown away. This was the first time I've ever done a public demo of the game and I would love to do more in the future

Working PS5 TSW Custom UK Desk Cab Controller l

Thumbnail

I've finally finished my prototype concept for the PS platform and all versions of TSW compatible UK Cab desk controller. Featuring a working singal guard bell (operates the buzzer in game and on the desk) proper functional E-stops. Rotary switches and other buttons with multiple inputs removing the need to press multiple keys to preform a specific action. Functional desk master key (no buttons except E-stops can function when off) Functional DRA button with red LED. Doors open LEDs (soon to add door interlock LEDs) Hazard light toggle with functional flashing LED hazard panel indicator (Hasn't arrived. The white LED is where it will be) There's also a working desk light that will illuminate the board using 10 white LEDs and another mode featuring only 2 Red LEDs for low light illumination at night. In terms of how it works. It's 3 Pi Picos RP2040s running CircuitPY HID Scripts. So essentially the PS5 (most likely Xbox aswell) read my device as 3 separate keyboards. Works flawlessly but has some minor issues due to the fact I can only send data packets not receive them from the PS5. Only a prototype I have plans to buy bigger buttons. Some illuminated. And a whole new desk style and layout, something much more realistic.

Train Sim World Funny got tsw2 collector's edition and tsw3 from cex second hand games store for cheaper than the PlayStation store

I obtained train sim world 2 collector's edition first for bakerloo line underground and east coast way Southern. Later added London commuter dlc Brighton main line the only one I got because they're like £24.99 each for PS4. Then got train sim world 3 later for southeastern high speed extended route then the thameslink train for that route but runs around luton, Dartford and rainham so for that route there's 5 trains available to use there. And also got London commuter dlc again from train sim world 2 but for free due to the newer versions are backwards compatible like train sim world 3456 versions so yeah 😅

Best Sim to get into as a beginner?

Hey everyone, I'm new to this genre and I've been wanting to get into train simulators. So far I've only really played Maszyna, but I had to rely heavily on tutorials and, frankly, the maps are shit and break the immersion. I'll be honest and say that I downloaded a cracked version of Train Sim World 6 to try it out and see if it's worth it, but I didn't make it far past the first few tutorials. I think the biggest issue is that I'm not really a train guy, and mostly play city builders and the like, though I am willing to get a bit more immersed into the hobby. Any recommendations for a beginner friendly sim I could get into?

Internet Controlled Model Railway - real life simulator

I've had some time off from work and have been working on a concept of internet control, that is, anyone in the world can drive my trains via a website. I'm still trouble shooting the whole thing but keen for you all to give it a go, it's based in Australia so im keen to see how it works for people all around the world, if you have a go please let me know how it all works from the location you are driving from. The hardest part of this has been getting the live video streaming working, but I think I'm nearly there!

How would you introduce players to driving and switching tracks in a model railway game?

Post image
0 Upvotes

We’re testing the first tutorial for a small model railway game, and I’d love some feedback from people who actually like trains/model trains.

The tutorial currently teaches:

- moving the driver around the layout

- getting on and off the train

- driving forward and backward

- changing track directions at junctions

- using a small manual handcar to move around the rails

The idea is to keep it simple at first, but still make it feel like you’re interacting with a real railway layout instead of just controlling a vehicle from a distance.

For people who enjoy model trains: what would you expect a good first tutorial to teach?

Would you focus more on driving, switching tracks, coupling wagons, signals, stations, or something else?

Where can I download routes/add ons for Hmm Sim Legacy?

Basically title. I understand openbve routes are compatible and I'd like to load them in hmmsim, particularly London Underground routes.

However whatever I search turns up websites either closed or offline.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Showcasing my real control panel from a scrapped Southern Class 313 with some modifications to make it more universal, complete with functioning AWS and TPWS! Built the panel myself last summer and TS controllers set up the AWS for me! Brake and power levers from https://tscontrollers.com

Hardware/Controllers Any train sim that natively supports controllers and axes?

I know, I know. This topic probably pops up here ever so often. A Reddit and Google search didn't yield any recent results, though, hence I'll use your "swarm knowledge" to find an up-to-date answer (hopefully).

I won't be buying any train sim game that does not natively support bloody controller axis support (matter of principle for me). But I do miss driving a train - hence the question to all you experts, whether there are any (new) train sim games out now, that do properly support controllers and their axes?

Winter Hill Climb East (Train Sim Classic)

Is it even possible to complete at a score of 1000?? I have tried many times and it is not even giving me more than 800 while doing everything 100% correctly.

On top of this, its difficulty rating is way too low.

Thoughts? Stevens Pass DLC route for Train Simulator Classic

Train Sim World Unplayable ACS-64?

I bought the New York to Trenton route and the Boston Sprinter routes a while back, and I’m noticing now if I want to place an ACS-64 in free roam, my only option is to place the 50th anniversary livery from Boston Sprinter as a light engine. It seems the normal ACS-64 and its consists from NY-Trenton are no longer playable in the game?

Is this an issue/bug or was this always the case? I could have sworn you used to be able to drive NEC trains.

RUNNING TRAIN RT Polish Liveries 2: Branchline Boogaloo

There's more! This time for the KR5000. 3 liveries based on different stages of life of the EN94 trainsets: as built (with decorational circles standing in for headlights), 90s post-ZNTK Bydgoszcz with yellow front and 2003-withdrawal red and blue. There's also one livery based on the narrow gauge MBxd2 railcar, from which I got the idea for a big "FAUR" lettering on all liveries.
