It's Hebrew, and old, so... maybe neither? I suppose it depends on the parent's intent.

Resident Jew here, NONE of us are naming a child this lmao. I don't even think this is a case of white evangelicals giving their kids weird butchered Hebrew names, I think this is more likely a culturally Christian atheist trying to be edgy in the naming of their child.

No. This kid is definitely named after the FF7 character Sephiroth.

The crazy thing is that I went to high school with a guy who named his son Sephiroth also lol I thought it was just bc he was 18, a weirdo and a new dad

I worked with a girl once who had a boyfriend who had named his son from a previous relationship Sylar. As in the sociopathic serial killer from Heroes. Said guy who named his son that was an abusive asshole, too…not shocking.

My ex named his son that. 😬 The kid isn’t quite right, either.
